Trifonov playing one of my favorite and most underrated composers. Wonderful. His voicing and tone control are absolutely magical, especially the Evocacion (Variation 10) with the lovely quote from the Fantaisie-Impromptu at 13:04.
During Daniil's performance at Carnegie Hall, it was sold out immediately. People were then allowed to stand in the side aisles and 125 sat on stage with Daniil and he played for 1½ hours and happiness radiated from him to everyone. (TH-cam) Great Artist, great human being, Daniil is. 🌷🌷🌷 (Holland)
Mompou’s music is like spring water, just the kind of music we need in these insane days...These variations on the simplest and one of the most beautiful preludes that Chopin composed is just delightful. Triffonov’s rendition is accurate, his touch is delicate, seductive, poetic. To be honest I enjoyed it more than the composer’s interpretation. I can listen to Monpou’s music at any time and I always end up satisfied and at peace: everything in it is so well balanced…Bravi, both the composer and the performer!!! Btw, I like it when classical musicians wear informal, casual clothes...
Well, that was 20 minutes of pure pleasure. I discovered Mompou's variations, a work of genius, based on Chopin's 7th prelude, a work of genius too, all played so stunningly wonderfully by one of my top favourite genius musicians, Daniil Trifonov. Heavenly !

Great to hear a big star playing little-known repertoire; with such loving devotion, too. Sounds like an improvisation (complete with quote from the Fantasy-Impromptu). Nice one, Daniil. Thanks for posing, YL.
I just recently discovered Mompou's Cancion y danza no 6, and fell in love with it! These variations are work of genius, and D. Trifonov's interpretation and performance are superb. Thanks for posting and giving music lovers a piece of heaven in these crazy times!
This is speaking to my soul. It is so simple in places and yet the tone and interpretation is so very difficult. My emotions run the gamut through the variations. Bravo! We need to hear more Mompou played. Thank you for this performance.
UNA MARAVILLA, creo que estas cosas habría que declararlas Patrimonio de la Humanidad!!!! EXCELSO, creo que Chopin debería sentirse orgulloso!!!!! BRAVO Daniil!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a wonderful concept for a set of Variations on a theme by Chopin. So many beautiful specimens dispersing from the core of so pedestrian and condensed a melody as this Prelude in which so many dramatic episodes eminate and escape the banal confines of this otherwise brief and acutely modulated frame of ' the theme '
Love these variations. In fact, this video inspired me to learn them myself. But for the life of me can't understand some variations and how they're connected to the original theme.
No wonder ;) "In interviews published in Roger Prevel's book, La Musique et Federico Mompou (Editions Ariana, Geneva, 1976), the composer revealed [...]: Which discs would you take to a desert island? Works of Chopin, of Scriabin. Some songs of Schubert, Schumann, Faure and Poulenc."
What's the name of the first piece he's playing? It's on the tip of my tongue but I can't put my thumb on it (I am aware that he's doing a variation on it) Edit: prelude no 7 in A major, got it.
I hope no one made these people pay to have to sit on the floor. This is the best evidence I can think of that classical music is in a final decadent phase before its ultimate death. It will go out as a pathetic clawing at relevance rather than with a semblance of dignity.
Apparently this is what Danil’s management team has decided he needs to do to market himself more effectively. At least he isn’t dressed like a homeless man this time, but I can tell you from experience, playing with people crowded around you is NOT fun. I’m sure he has to do what he’s told. It’s all about the money. 🙄
I do disagree with the presentation. Music is not meant to be listened to so up-close and not in a proper acoustic environment, nor with people breathing down your neck.
If You are disagree or not, He loves to play at intimate small Places with jung Poeple .It's allways a very relaxing Time for Daniil Trifonov. And the Audience enjoys it. I personally would Love to be there !
Just wonderful. Anybody who knows Mompou's music will appreciate this. Absolute perfection!

Interesting. I like it.
Luscious!
I hear so much of Scriabin's 5th & Vers la flamme
6:18 a bit of Scriabin
such a genius composer
17:55 also!
@@lukelallymaguire8724 yes!!! I noticed the repeated chords immediately as the great Scriabin.
agree, and at 7:48 a bit of Rachmaninov?

The reverb they added sounds a bit weird and digital imo

13:05 is Fantaisie Impromptu?
