I think you might find why there’s more rust on the passenger side it might be the road salt because they don’t clean the edges of the road as good as on the driver side That would be my thoughts

The best lift is the one you select yourself my jeep has skyjacker currie jks bilstein parts went with skyjacker for the base cause their jeep coils are great and so are the control arms. I've seen Rubicon express control arms pull apart . Gotta say the bilstein shocks are what you need with any lift. Get the mono tubes and get ready for smoothest ride ever. The whole supply chain thing is making bilstein shocks harder to get had to wait 2 months to get mine but they really were worth the wait

@@gcposeidon0800 it happens when you max out the suspension (taking all the weight off the spring by flexing the vehicles suspension) causing the spring to slip. Also you can do it by jacking the vehicle up with a floor jack on the frame.

I was looking at brands like Fox King and Icon for my shocks but just went with Bilstein. Going to use 6100 for my front and 5160 for my rear.
Went with them as they are reputable.
Since the 2 inch front lift will have risk of hitting my coil buckets I going to have to get upper arms so either CJD racing or Dirt King Fabrication.
I just like working on cars in general but I'm kind of a part snob I will go overkill.
Thinking about getting full Heim Steering as well. Boxed lower arms may be somewhere in the future.

Put a RC lift on my daughter 03 TJ and it’s been good for several years now. Running 35 KO2’s on a 4 inch lift. For the price to lift something it ain’t bad. Seems to drive straight with no excess wear on tires and no wobble in front. Plus it looks better than stock does for it gets compliments.

People just mad they paid so much for their other brands or kits. For the price RC is actually a great value. Obviously its not a $7k coil kit. But for the $500 to $2000 kits they give a ton of value. Again too many people are mad and need to justify their $5,000 kits they ride to the mall. lol

Rough Country is a great lift. I put one on my 2012 F350 6.7 Power Stroke. It’s still functioning perfectly without any issues other than replacing the shocks. I was disappointed with the shocks, but I have blown out BDS Shocks as well. Truck has over 175,000 miles with lots of deer camp, pulling 40’ fifth wheel, boat, mountains in Colorado and daily driver in Houston.
BDS shocks did make it ride better no doubt.

I have the 4 inch BDS lift on my 2016 Ram1500 Sport and love it but it was installed by the dealer before I bought my truck. I am about to replace shocks and struts and was considering Rough Country but I saw way to many reviews basically saying the guy didn't necessarily regret buying rough country but for the same price or slightly more you could get a better brand with a better reputation. So this video was posted in July 2018, its 2020 now. How has it held up since then?

RC is the best bang for your buck and the customer service is awesome. I have a 6” on my 2006 F250 and my buddy has the same on his 2012 F250, both installed in 2016, and they perform flawlessly. And we actually have to go offroad in 4 wheel pulling SXS trailers to get to our camp. I ended up buying a Ram 1500 to keep from driving my F250 so much and went with the high-end coilover BDS since my buddy works at a shop and I got it at cost. Obviously BDS is a better kit but it’s normally more than 3 times the price of RC. Since I got a $4000 kit for $2000 I jumped on it but otherwise I would have stuck with RC for sure.

(8:55) The front left spring is not properly seated on the pad insulator. The spring is also rubbing the paint off your frame and rust is starting to form. The shocks look off poor quality. You should reseat the spring, upgrade your shocks, touch up paint your RC components/ frame, and have your undercarriage sprayed for rust. The truck looks great.

  • @robertmarlinghaus

I've been looking into lifts, and I live in the rust belt. Your video is the only one to show how the quality held up through the salt.
As for the rust being on the passenger side.
Salt is distributed evenly on the road once its first spread. As it melts snow and ice, everything drifts towards the curbs due to the crown of the road.
The center of the road is slightly higher than the out bands of the road where it meets the curb. Reason for this is so water has a way to drain away and prevent pooling under normal weather conditions, such as rain and thawing snow and ice, to prevent hydroplaning.
Also, the salt concentration will be higher closer to the curb, so will rust metal parts faster on the passenger side compared to the driver side.

One of the reasons why you have more on the right side vs the left side. If you live in a area that get alot of snow, and constant icy conditions. It could be whatever your state or county puts on the roadways. That stuff always collects more on the right side of the road. I live in eastern Montana, and I have similar conditions on my F350.

We put a 3.25" Rough Country lift kit on my Son's 1997 Jeep TJ, and although it rusted in the same areas as in this video, it has held up well in performance so far, (6 years in). We put a 3.5" Rough Country on my wife's 2012 Jeep JKU, and it is awesome! A better ride than stock, with great looks and great performance. We noted that at that time, (2 years ago), Rough Country had really improved their engineering. That lift kit makes for a really nice ride by keeping the factory suspension steering and angles. Now... I'm thinking of putting a Rouch Country 5" lift on my 2013 Ram 2500 Hemi 4x4. Over the last 10 years I've hunted around for a lift kit for my truck, and most brands omit the 2013 Ram model year... or list it only for the Cummins trucks, which are heavier up front. For $999.99, I think I'll end up trying the Rough Country kit for my Ram. I will likely repaint the shocks and springs to give them added proection. One thing we did when we rebuilt my Son's Jeep TJ was to use Eastman's epoxy frame sealer, primer, satin black top coat, and a coat of Duplicolor bed liner on his frame and suspension parts, (but not the axles). This aided in protecting against rust, as well as rock chips and impacts. I might consider doing this to the Rough Country equipment as well. Nothing looks worse than rust on new suspension parts. Thanks for the video! Stay Safe Folks!!!

I’m looking at getting a ram power wagon. The exact same year as yours but it’s red. What is the average fuel mileage you were getting when it was stock??

Not saying that Rough Country is bad, but they have had a few issues with some of their parts. Some of these parts have failed under extreme conditions. They do have good prices for decent function. However; under extreme conditions consumers still need to research their own vehicles and find out what will work best for that particler ride. I think it comes to what you plan on doing with your automobile. 👍

For the average guy whose rig sees dirt four or five times every year, RC is fine. Their product is fairly priced, made in the USA and pretty good quality especially in the past few years. If you're building a crawler to get our of bowls in Moab, you made need to spend a bit more money.

I'm going went with a 3" kit Rc kit with control arms and rear N3 shocks. only thing I might swap out are the spacers with a solid 3" front and 2" rear
Instead of what they have other than that for the price I'm on board 100 %

Do you still have this truck and the RC suspension? I've read about the shock chrome/stainless? shaft pitting with exposure to the elements and that rough surface tears up the seals inside the shock leading to failure. Any comments about this?

RC seems to have drastically improved even within the last 5-10 years. I’ve never owned an RC kit but my current truck I think I may buy an RC. In the last several years RC has been kind of hit or miss, a crapshoot. But over the last year I would say the reviews have been resoundingly positive.

i think your rear shocks are rusted front the debris shot up from the knobby tires hitting the shock.
    damaging the paint. causing rust

Hey Ian. So, I moved the Front Runner rack off my 80 series Land Cruiser to the ARE shell that I've always had. Put two solar panels on top, built a kinda horseshoe shaped shelf bedrail height that has a pocket on one side for my camp stove and the other side has two chairs. Puma air compressor. ARB fridge in the back, AGM battery dead nuts center against the front of the bed. Of course tools, recovery stuff yada/yada. Went for a recent trip to CA and the AZ strip. Picked up a friend that is a Egr/sales. at DANA. Dude that thing rocked like crazy. Seriously, it was like a drunkin sailor. And I have the CG as low as I can get. I have a Expo1 dual swing rear bumper coming soon, and I know it will just be worse. Did fine off road, shocks still suck, but truck did great. After I get that bumper on Im going to CAT scale and call Thuren and Carli and see what I can figure out. I live down 3 miles of washboard to get to pavement everyday here in AZ, and I want soft, but firm on the road. Probably Kings. Agree that the pumpkins are the Achilles heal of these girls. I'm not going bigger than the 35's though as a DD. Oh, there are the White Knuckle sliders that are heavy. She's going in tomorrow for the transmission interlock recall and a P0456 flag that keeps coming up.

Don Leamon good stuff Don. Damn I need to feature your truck on the channel haha I love hearing updates and your truck sounds like it’s really coming along nicely. I love the overland aspect of yours, and it’s cool to see the different builds out there, totally different than mine , as in mine isn’t overlander status at all but rather a classic trail or mudder type truck. Gotta find a way to send me a small video tour or pics of your rig man and the Lexus too

My husband has a F250 and I have a Wrangler. We both have RC lift. It has been more than a year and our vehicle is still going strong and drives well. His f250 has been driving better than the stock.
RC stepped up their game. But some haters/ snobs can’t give them a break.

I've personally owned kits for a 2019 LD silverado (old body 1/2 ton 4x4), 97' k1500, spindle kits for 90' and 2006 2wds, and installed 3 kits for friends for the 2007-2013 4wd. Just bought a 6" kit for a low mile 04' I just bought from a buddy. No issues aside from the shocks not being great.

could be due to the salt on the roads collecting on the right side or shoulder side of the roads causing the passenger side to rust faster.
