  • Night 6: Our Community and Single Ladies [ Sayed Jawad Qazwini ] Muharram 2021
While in the 1960s and the 1970s two-thirds of women were married by the age of 30, today only 20% of women are married by the age of 30.
The number of young and single professional women is on the rise, not only in America and the West but also in the Middle East.
Without a shadow of a doubt, women are now working their way into very influential roles in all types of fields, and many of them happen to be single.
Similarly, we also have many successful women in our community who are in their late twenties, mid-thirties and are unmarried.
Women who have gone to top universities are earning amongst the top 10%.
But if you look around in our Masajid, and it doesn’t matter what sect or ethnicity, you will not find them there. Many of us think it’s because they are too busy with work, or they just don’t care for religion, yet that is far from truth.
the reason is that our community does not appreciate their achievements, but only focuses on one aspect; “WHY AREN’T YOU MARRIED YET?”
The job of the pulpit is to lend those who are voiceless in our community including single professional women a voice, so none dares to shame them until they are driven out of those four walls.
Join us this evening as we examine this topic in the following manner:
    1. The greatest women in Islam, were they all married?
    2. Top 4 reasons why single professional women have left our community.
    3. Top 3 struggles of single women in our community.
    4. The three greatest women companions of Imam Hussain.

A ladies hypergamous nature makes it harder for career driven "highly professional" women to seek a good man. Naturally women of those calibres will want to seek out a man who is on their level or higher. You will barely see a woman of that status marry someone who has less income or status than them, hence making it harder to find someone of good character/ nature.

He should do a lecture on why guys are avoiding marriage and women setting high expectations is one of the reasons.

Maybe the men in the community should step it up and stop being less than the women , instead of complaining that the women have standards. Oyy

You can always use the example of the prophet Muhammad pbuh and his first wife to lady Khadijah (as) she was the wealthiest woman in Mecca and she married the prophet pbuh while he had nothing. Not all women are inclined to marry a richer or more educated man than her, it really depends on the personalities of the two individuals. A person without a degree can be more knowledgeable than someone with one. And a persons personality can be so amazing that all other aspects such as wealth are overlooked.
