Nice video and thanks for recommending my rig! Just a small suggestion. For hair you can turn on the "hair collection" and use the first mesh above the head to extrude the hair (delete the transparent faces first), then translate them down on the z axes (z 2.8 is the correct value). On the head mesh below you can then change the uvs so that it will only display the skin if you already have an extruded mesh of the hair. I hope it helps!

You can actually get around issue with the 120 degree on the leg bend by having the second shape key's "Relative To" field set to the "Leg Bend" shape key as opposed to the "Basis". The only thing is I'm not sure how to set up the driver to make it activate the 2nd shape key after the 90 degree mark.

37:23 ngl, when I was still a noobie beginner in blender testing out minecraft animations in blender. It would always look very weird to me that every time I’d move the mouth the textures scale with it, but I did enjoy the rig pretty much just the mouth kept me off.
I personally love it, because it looks more realistic (since it displaces the skin, like in real life) but it sounds like you prefer the alpha glitch technique more - perhaps there's a way to recreate it in blender 🤔
@@SharpWind there is a way and it's basically using a uv warp modifier. basically this modifier allows you to control or warp a texture using another object. a common technique is to have an empty as the uv warp target and move it around until the texture fits and then parent that to the rig to keep it in place this will keep the texture looking the same at all times while allowing mesh deformations. or this is just 1 way I did it there could be others.

The IK issue is probably cus u did not bend the leg bones. If the leg bones go verttically down, ppl say that it wont work. Last time I has this issue too when rigging The Figure.
The reason the IK leg didn't work is because the chain was completely straight, so the inverse kinematics basically didn't have a direction to bend towards, causing it to not bend at all.

The stretching I think is because you did cube projection selection in unwarp menu, I've never seen it and I have not done the projection unwraps. 10:00 The vertex snapping links to vertex f the uv, there is a setting to snap to pixels somewhere, I don't remember where off the tp of my head, to snap to the image.
Cube projection should work if the scale is applied - the uvs got stretched when i applied the texture. I think its the 1x0.5 uv scale that stretched it
Hi, great video! I got one question. When i go to extrude like you did with the arm to make the sleave extrude, it creates a bevel effect inward. It's almost like theres a setting making sure the lines stay smooth and auto curves it inward when i add the second layer of faces. This is probably confusing lol. I understand that the sleeves bevel out and i can reset there axis to 0, but this bevel occurs where the sleeve meets the hand if that makes sense. Would you know the fix for this?
There'a a bevel modifier on all the geo, i believe To stop this, you could assign those edges a vertex group, put the bevel modifier's "limit method" to "vertex group", select your vertex group, and click the arrow icons to invert it - so those edges wont be affected by the modifier
Lol, misread. Generally, the animation process is pretty simple - make keyframes for bodyparts at individual timestamps. I have plenty of tutorial on animation itself (movements and physics), and although they are made in Mine Imator, they translate really well to Blender Perhaps step #1 wouls be to take a look at those, it's a really similar process
Mixamo gives you baked motiom tracking data, meaning a keyframe every frame I suggest the best way to edit it is by turning on soft select and editing the graph Its hard to add actual movements and stuff to it though, because it's already baked

For my "worst animation project ever", i was using Maya and had the old PC (intel core i7, gtx970, 8gb ram), took me 6min per frame (arnold renderer is slower and i couldnt use denoising bc it didnt work for some reason) The image for this thumbnail was made in blender on my "new" pc (RTX3060, AMD ryzen 5x-5600, 16gb ram) + denoising, i got a pretty good result in 5 seconds, but i decided to render 1024 samples, so it took around 12 seconds for the whole thing Blender is good :)
