    Awesome year for you guys. Being intentional with every dollar is key and this is proof of that. Don't be hard on yourself about your savings goals not hitting the target. Imagine what 2026 is going to look like when you are funneling all your debt money to savings and investing. It's gonna be incredible! Can't wait to see what 2025 brings for you guys!

    Great goals update! Amazing how well you have done in 2024!
    In terms of financial goals we hit almost all, had planned on earning more side income, but that didn’t happen due to everything. For non financial however, we didn’t meet at least 50% of our goals. Hopefully my health will be better this year so that we can actually achieve them this year instead.

      @ had my second to last treatment this Monday. Then I have the last immunotherapy session on the 27th of January. That is the last of the heavy treatment, after that I won't need the IV anymore hopefully. Still have 4.5 years of hormonetherapy, but that's less bad.
      Will start treatment for neuropathy (pain in my nerves in my feet) coming Tuesday though. Hoping that will help against the pain from the chemo and immunotherapy.

    I grew my emergency fund from 3months to 6months and started investing in a 457b plan (in addition to my pension plan). I will pay off my car sometime in 2025 I'm thinking it might be around may. I prioritized my emergency fund over my car pay off because my monthly payment is about 200 dollars with a low interest rate of 1.99% so that just made the most since for me. After my car is paid off I will be officially debt free and then will work toward potentially saving toward a down payment on a townhome or condo.

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      With that low interest rate, that totally makes sense! You can earn more in most savings accounts now, so that was smart 😊 here’s to having the car paid off in 2025 though! 🙌🏼🎉

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Brokrerage accounts are " leave it and forget it" accounts. The money is already "spent", its not a huge amount, and it would be my advice to leave it as it sits.

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks, Terry! I feel the same way! Once I invest it I don’t want to take it out, but I know some people would advise using it to pay off debt. I’ll think about it, but I’ll probably keep it where it is ☺️

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    We definitely accomplished somethings we would not have been able to do in 2024 had we not budgeted past a death by 1000 cuts. We may have grumbled a bit from time to time but we didnt have the financial insecurity angst even though we had a few unplanned blips in 2024.

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Fin so glad that budgeting helped you get through it! I always think that a budget should be flexible and should be able to those unexpected blips 😊

  • @debratakagawa4764
    @debratakagawa4764 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Looking at the goals and successes, you could have succeeded at all of them. You just chose to allocate them differently.
    Obliterating fed loans 4 and 5 seemed more satisfying than the savings goals. Besides in 2026 you can start investing and saving until your heart’s content.

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do think it was much more satisfying to pay off the debt, and I feel much lighter now, too. Debt weighs me down so much. I will be so happy to be able to save and invest more once it’s all gone! 😊

  • @JKRBW
    @JKRBW 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Have you done an updated net worth statement? I know I've seen you do it before but I can't remember what time of year that was.
    Have you shared what your mortgage situation is? Do you think you'll accelerate that payoff once the student loans are done?
    We're still working on our 2025 goals. We took out some low interest debt in 2024 and I'm hemming and hawing over paying it down or just letting it ride.

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s funny that you ask that because I just filed a net worth update! It will go up next week. I usually do one every quarter ☺️
      We probably won’t accelerate the mortgage payoff once we pay off the debt just because our interest rate is so low, and we make more from investing and even from savings in our high yield savings account.
      I’m glad the debt you took out is low interest! You’ll make a good decision on what to do. At least if it’s low interest, you don’t have to stress over it too much if you do just let it ride 🙌🏼

    Explain to me how you differentiate or define "investment" and "savings" . When you use the term "investments" do you priimarily mean "retiremment" or money you wont use in 10 years, and savings has a 1-2 year time horizon? TO me they are really the same, The issue is yield and liquidity. Things you need money for in 1-2 years likely should not be in the market. Longer than 5 should, or at least could be. Also some I guess use the term Savings to mean Sinking funds. And to me that is just an aspect of good budgeting.
    BTW the notes in my last assumptuoins were way off. Why dont you do a video using your correct numbers. Make an assumptuon of when Marc and you desire to change his full time work and salary. Is it when the kids finish college? Later? Earlier? But with the investing you are doing it is something that would be valuable to analyze now. (So in the calc he numbers you need is how much you have now. Annual amounts, Intererest rates and if you ae using VOO I would use 9.5% annual. And number of years, (could be # of months) until you need to use money for retirement.
    I am NOT against your investing. I just dont want you sacrifice so much now, end up with a huge pile of money, and regret you didnt do some things with the kids while they wre young and would be interested in doing stuff with their parents. (For example, I never made it to the National Parks with the kids. Today, it is unlikely they would with me, even if we paid 100%. But I am going to Belgium with the older one in 10 days.)

    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, I’d say investments are long term funds that I am not planning on using. Savings could be sinking funds and emergency savings. Obviously I don’t want to use an emergency fund, but I’d like it to be liquid and accessible if we should need it.
      I absolutely agree with you both enjoying life now. I think we will be pretty set in retirement. I am going to invest more once the debt is paid, but not ALL of the debt money will go to investing. We will definitely be traveling and enjoying life a little more, too. 2026 is right around the corner! 😄
