    If you didnt lock up the crank with a pin, how did you stop crank turning/ going out of timing when you undo & do up the crank bolt? Cheers

    Did you use any lubricant to water pump gasket?

      No. I used to use sealant but don’t bother now. Ensure face is smooth and clean!

    Good, detailed video. I ve just had a friend recommend i change my timing belt and kit etc.. I m on 93,000 miles, 1.6TCDI Focus hatchback diesel.. Can you advise me please, how long this job should take a qualified mechanic like yourself, start to finish? I m not going to attempt it myself, too big a job for me, plus i dont have all the tools so i am about to shop around, local garages for estimates... Thankyou.. Also, is it essential to replace the water pump, my car currently drives and sounds great, and i am about to get this job done as a preventive measure, or is it just the case of might as well change it as prices of belts alone comapred to full kit with water pump etc are not that much more? Any help would be much apreciated.....

      Thanks for your comment. Firstly it will take a competent mechanic about 3 to 4 hours to replace. Secondly. If your changing the belt and tensioner you may as well change the water pump it is driven by the timing belt and will have covered similar miles. I would always recommend these changed together. Good luck!

      @@How2FixIt1 Thankyou so much for your invaluable info, and prompt reply.. I see the full kit is anywhere between 50-80 notes.. 3-4 hours, you made it look so straightforward!! I m guessing i d be looking at 150-200 for the labour, i think standard is around £40 an hour round my way, would that be about right? Based in S Wales, if that'd help? I see your based in UK, and imagine it would prob be even more over the bridge.......

      @@thedjreffa yes that sounds about right. Labour is roughly 40 to 60 a hour where I am. Don’t settle for the cheapest kit. Buy a reputable premium brand.

      @@How2FixIt1 I will definately take into account what you ve said, and look for reputable parts, even it is an extra 20 plus.... If you lived round here there'd be a pint behind the bar for you!! Thankyou very much. I m a new sub, but hopefully i wont need too much car fixing advice, my Focus runs very well for a 2012, low, fair mileage, not long back done the oil service too, and the timing kit is, well, on good advise and a preventive measure, but you might well be hearing my name again!! Glad to have crossed you today, finding your a very knowledgable, helpfull person, real mechanical, unlike some AA 'techicians' (??) with their clean unifirms and plug in diagnosics i ve come across with friends breakdown issues!!!!

    Hey man, I have the same engine , actualy the car died while driving and the belt stripped of some teeth, I changed everything same as you , but the car cranks but does not start, do you have any tips ?

    • @How2FixIt1
      @How2FixIt1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure sounds like you have internal engine damage in this case you would have needed the engine locking tools to endure it is timed up correctly. I’m guessing you may have some damaged valves. You could do a compression test but I think you will find the compression is down. Sounds like it’s time to take the cylinder head off and replace the damaged valves.

    Hello again! Didnt think i d be in touch so soon, and fortunately this is not urgent, or even a problem as such. Just curious of what could cause such an issue, n i thought, you would prob know, or have a good idea.. My rear spring coil, left hand side is corroded. I m right hand drive, the right spring looks fine. Plenty of vid s here on YT on how to change, and i ve got 2 ready for the job, thinking may aswell replace both at the same time. But what i m curious of is what could cause this? Simply going through puddles over time. Bare in mind i am in S Wales, where we have enough wet weather for everyone!
    Looked through all your vids incase you ve ever mentioned the issue, as not wanting to waste your time...
    Any advice, as before, greatly appreciated...

    • @How2FixIt1
      @How2FixIt1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your questions is about the corrosion, then all I have to say is. Steel will corrode over time. Some steels bear better than others. Also the quality of covering could be questionable too. Maybe one got replaced previously. Hope this helps.

      @@How2FixIt1 My hero! I didnt even consider that factor, and i think your probably bang on. Few months back i asked a friend is it essential to change both springs if ones corroded, and he told me, not really, so i m now thinking, yes, its prob happened before and posssibly been replaced by a scrap part or similar.. Your advice again has helped immensely, and eased my curiosity.. Can i pick your brains once more please? I ve just been watching a vid, someone using a product called Lanoguard, for cleaning up the underside of his car. Seems a worthy job, but do you have any knowledge of this product, or maybe another similar, as i ve come across a few vids warning dont use a rubber product? You ve been more than helpful already, so if its a pass on the latter, no problem, and thankyou very much again, not only for your info, but also promt reply.. Wish you lived across the road!!

      @@How2FixIt1 I think i ve just found what i m after, wax oil spray, plus it comes in handy spray cans so i wouldnt need any kind of spraygun that i dont own, and its cheap enough too.. Seems, what i understand of Lanoguard, your likely to need to do it all again, maybe months later, and quite a lot of preperation, where as the waxoil appears to poss last years, and you just spray it straight on, possibly a little rub with a wire brush where needed.. Good info off another oldschool, real mechanic i just came across, and i think its a job i could take on with confidence, so, happy days, and for prob a quarter of the price i was kind of expecting. Result... Just need a sunny day now.. Roll on August!! 🙂👍
