Hyolyn is an incredible singer because she can adapt her voice to any style, and it’s not given to every singer. She has so many colours and can sing as powerful as soft, as deep as high, as dark as bright. And on top of that, she also excels at dancing and rapping.. a true ace!
In this Killing Voice though she almost used only her breathy/soft and bright sounds which I found a bit upsetting but it’s because I know she can do so much ! 😅

That drama created a phenomenal wave at that time, everyone was in love with Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun). I would highly recommend the drama to anyone that wanna watch romcom plus amazing acting and storyline!

Thank you for reacting to Queen Hyolyn! She's highly underrated despite being a critically and professionally acclaimed as one of Korea's best vocalists and dancers. She's a performance beast and has a unique voice you can't find anywhere. I really hope you react to her solo work, such as her performances in am a singer, immortal song, double trouble, and queendom2. Her solo work is all amazing as well and she has released dance covers too. She's currently a ceo at her own founded company and will be performing in MAMA later this month

She is a highly underrated vocalist due to the nature of the group and the songs they have, I would think. However, one of my favourite vocal performance in kpop is a ballad rendition of her group's (Sistar) song "gone not around any longer". The best video is from the channel kpop is life where she sang a duet with one of the finalist. You can just search for "fantastic duo hyolyn kpop is life".
She is definitely not an underrated vocalist. Underrated solo artist? Absolutely! But she has always been praised for her vocal ability by the industry and the Korean GP.
Also, Sistar songs are deceptively easy to sing. Most covers I've heard in the original key are a mess. The only time I was truly impressed by a cover is with that show where the contestants sang Give It To Me. Loona's Shake It was also good but you can tell the song was still difficult for them to comfortably sing through.

This is what I meant by being underrated. People who know her know she can sing. But because she is more known for her work with her group or sub unit... she is often forgotten as a top pick vocalist.
People will easily name taeyeon, ailee, iu, rose, etc... but whether it's due to her being 2nd Gen (3rd gen?) or just her having less activities recently,... I believe people wouldn't think of hyolyn right away. Which is definitely unfortunate
sorrt if I’m sounds like I’m attacking you- but she's not underrated popularity wise and musicly wise.. even when the group was still active she was the first member to debut solo in 2012 and a year later she started singing "ballad" OST’s in the most famous dramas.. her collaborations always charted no1 in the Korean charts nd Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.. and I remember that she is always nominated in the best collaboration/OST in Mama .. She debuted in a duet with Bora with a different concept from the group as well. She sang the theme for the movie Frozen Let It Go in Korean. She was the first idol who participated in a show named I am a singer and got second place.. and even participated in a rap program named Unpretty Rap Star and lately she joins Queendom and many of 4th gen fans started to know her. as an Hyolyn stan since 2016 i think she managed well to show her skills in different ways.
Korean and international standards are different, I don't mean to offend, but K-Pop fans these days especially the 4th gen only care about the artists of the big four ~ Taeyeon? sm IU? Jungkook fave idol Ailee? they know her name yes but they can’t name all her music(that not my opinion on them i’m a big fan since 2014 just saying what young K-Pop fans think about them) .. At least Hyolin is still recognized as the best singer in Korea even in Queendom. Her ratings were high even when competing with new groups. Sistar comebacks in that show they were trend and their songs are back on the charts, people think they're just doing the hot and summery concept because they don't listen to ballads actually, and K-pop these days focuses on dancing and performing so of course they don't watch old singing programs either..

Hyolyn and Ailee are my most favorite korean female soloists, and both of them are friends. You need to see their performance collaborations
She's really a great performer and really connects to her audience. I love her unique tone and her bright smile so much.

Before getting into her voice, let me confirm that Dally is one of her signature songs to date which was released in 2018 and considerably her most well-known song. When it comes to her voice, I tend to put them into three genres/categories.
First, the summer songs. being known as the summer queen since her days with Sistar, the youthfulness that you said in her voice helped established the summer queen title since Sistar (which most choruses sang by her) era and beyond until today. It gives the bright and refreshing vibe that we crave in summer songs. More of her voice in this category: See Sea, Bae, Say My Name, No Thanks, I Swear (Sistar), Loving U (Sistar) and Summer or Summer (a collab with Dasom).
Second, her lethal femme fatale side. She emits strong stage presence with her talents and charisma, so there’s no surprise that she can handle the mature and sexy yet classy vibe really well. Breathy yet strong, she knows how to do many things with her voice. More on this category: Dally, Layin’ Low, One Way Love, Paradise, Erase (with Jooyoung), Give It to Me (Sistar), Alone (Sistar).
Third, her soulful and tear-jerking voice. She sings with her emotions and that’s why she can keep you being engaged with every live performance of hers. One of best singers AND PERFORMER in Korea . How she can do difficult dance while singing PERFECTLY (even designing the stages herself) is incredible. FURTHERMORE she is few singer that can sing SO EMOTIONALLY TOUCHING that makes me tear up. I love her.
Hyolyn's discography is amazing!! She is a no skip singer. All her songs are bops and are good. Even songs she has not officially released. My personal fave that I want her to release so bad is called Wing Wing. She posted a live performance of that on her TH-cam channel. Funny thing is she did not even sing her most popular songs from her first album. One Way Love and Lonely are technically her most popular songs as a solo-artist because she has won many awards with her first solo album. Not to mention she has many OSTs from popular dramas as part of her discography as well. Her live vocals are also better than her studio recordings in my opinion so I prefer to watch her performances over her music videos. She needs to come out with a live band version of her songs. If you ever have the chance, go to one of her concerts, it is worth every penny. She is an amazing performer. Sings live, dances her as off, and even directs her own stage performances. If you watch her on Queendom you can see how much work she does behind the scenes and she is involved in almost everything from props, to costumes, to stage directing, to music production/composition/lyrics and melodies. She does it all and I feel like she still has more to show. Every year her voice and stages get better and better.
