Farewell, Van. This was the song that got me into the trees, and the bass line is one of the main reasons it's my favorite ST song. Such an underrated player. You will be greatly missed.
In short, Lanegan had very little sex appeal and wasn't exactly enthusiastic about fame and the Conner brothers were two fat guys. Even the days where good grunge bands were getting signed were full of MTV bullshit that was all about image. The real crime is that Lanegan's solo stuff never generated many hits either. That's a whole different musical realm.

My 1st meeting with Mark Lanegan. In 1989 i tagged along with a friend who wrote for a magazine to do an interview with Sonic Youth 2 hours before show. The Screaming Trees were the opening act. I went to the washroom & noticed Lanegan hunched over a toilet vomiting, I asked if he was ok & *Mark replied "yeah, i'm fine. Everything is cool"* soon after i went to Lee Ranaldo & said " i think the singer from the Trees is really sick, he's in the washroom vomiting" *Lee replied "oh that's normal he's always throws up before a show, he get's stage fright"*
Wow Mark had stage fright? Its just such a weird thing considering he seemed to not give a shit about anything 😂Rip Mark shows that he was much more than just a junkie, alcoholic mess like some people liked to view him as.
I miss great rock. There was so much great music coming out in the 90's that I couldn't keep up, thank goodness, so now I'm discovering more every day. This one is a gem.

I wish I'd been 18-28 im the 90s i was born in 2000. To qoute Neil Young "Another time or place another civilization , would really make this life fell so complete" and i know i sound like a dumb nostalgia sick teen and i guess i am to some degree but there are so many bands i woild love to see live that I'll never get to see from the 90s and just to be alive when so many of my favourite bands where new and to experience the slightly more innocent pre 9/11 world, to make the "whats stüssy stand for?" Joke and have people actually know the brand, to see pulp fiction and trainspotting at the cinemas . I'm not just seeing it from an idealistic lense tho trust me I've heard of the 90s through the eyes of someone couch surfing/living in their car with other stuff going on ontop of that.

I’ve just discovered them…man, I’m 22 and I don’t know much about them…how long has it been since they first hit the stage…I have no idea what is it about this incredibly underrated band but it’s captivating just on point…Mark’s voice is something in between of Kurt’s aggression and Eddie’s passion. It’s a great combination…the amount of emotions to show without yelling the notes out…I guess you can call it a soul! Rest in piece!

Their next album 'sweet oblivion' definitely brings them smack into the 'grunge sound' that everyone knows and recognises (not that a single 'grunge band' called themselves that), you can hear the quality upgrade in the recording for sure and the voice is a bit more ... well ... 'yarly' (I'm sure they are all influencing each other). There really are a bunch of awesome bands from this scene around that time. Just dig around a bit ... and a little deeper

What a monumental song. This sounds so much like the "Seattle Sound". A MAJOR influence here for that and another huge loss for music with Marks passing. None of this will be forgotten.

This was a great BAND. Dark Mark may or may not have become anything without the band. With all respect, his legacy is music, but not humility, tolerance, nor grace. I grew up near them and with their music, and they were all fantastic.
This song got on the radio in 91 on 89x Detroit during the last year of high school and so many have been a fan ever since. St Andrew’s Hall on the Sweet Oblivion tour was epic. Band went on late and owned the place large and in charge. The crowd was ready and it was an “all time” show. Great band with real swagger. Rest In Peace Mark Lanegan - you are eternal.

Honestly never listened to these guys back in the day and 90's grunge was totally my thing. This is some good stuff.
This was a great BAND. Dark Mark may or may not have become anything without the band. With all respect, his legacy is music, but not humility, tolerance, nor grace. I grew up near them and with their music, and they were all fantastic.

My all time favorite trees/mark song
This song got on the radio in 91 on 89x Detroit during the last year of high school and so many have been a fan ever since. St Andrew’s Hall on the Sweet Oblivion tour was epic. Band went on late and owned the place large and in charge. The crowd was ready and it was an “all time” show. Great band with real swagger. Rest In Peace Mark Lanegan - you are eternal.
