    I hope to someday be a weaver as experienced as you. Working on it! Thanks for sharing all this knowledge!

    Thanks for sharing! I like the s-hook idea for uniform weight for tension. I will definitely try that when I dress the loom for my next project- which will be a v-shawl too!

      I have tried all kinds of things to get even tension over the years, this seems (for now) as one of my better ideas. Obviously having a 2nd person hold the threads like the reigns of a horse & buggy works great, but my wife does not particularly like that job.

    I love your videos, I have a New Spring loom sitting here. I haven't gotten the nerve to warp it yet.

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No time like NOW to warp it up. If you're not completely comfortable with the new loom yet, then uses some cheap yarn or thread as your first project, so if you mess up it will not be too expensive for you and you can call it a learning experience.

    I like very much your weaving videos, I never noticed where those 15 minutes went, it just stopped at one time and I now have to wait for the sequel... Greetings from Romania!

    I don't know if anyone has ever told you what a great color sense you have. Whether it's towels, shawls, or shirts, you always seem to select very attractive yarns and patterns.
    In some future video, could you show how to add heddles on your loom? I remember that in some prior video, you warped extra shafts so you would not need to add heddles. I don't understand why, and you've already said you don't like to do it, but a visual would really help some of us. Thanks for considering it!

      I will THINK on it, but not until the current project is finished and the loom is stark-naked again. I really do hate it because it is such a first class pain in the @$$.
      Many years ago Jane Stafford made a video for Louet showing some of the process, here is the link to that video:

      Yvonne, I don't have a video of ADDING heddles, but I did make one a few years ago about MOVING heddles to a different shaft, that might answer your questions. th-cam.com/video/J6NyUrkfwpg/w-d-xo.html

    You might check on a channel here called Lofty Fiber. They make a really wonderful Helping Hands warping system. No more strings or clips, etc. They have demos for the Spring loom as well as David loom. I have one and love it

    This was great. Thanks for sharing the warping detail. Do you have a longer riddle or do you add codder pins for wider warp?

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wooden base of my home made raddle has holes drilled for as wide as the max warp width of the loom. I keep the cotter pins separate. For each project I only use the number of cotter pins that I will need for the warp that I am putting onto the loom.

  • @movourneen

    so on the front side you are using heavy S hooks to help with warping/tension?

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is correct. It keeps tension on the warp as I wind it onto the back beam. Not a lot, but enough to keep it under steady tension.

    Scheepjes means little boats, little ships. Pronounciation sounds a bit like escape: scapejes. But when I as a dutch person pronounce it it sounds like a sore throat. Apart from that, I admire your craftmansship.

    where did you find a pattern for a v shaped shawl?

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a class I took at Seivers School of Fiber Arts about 15 years ago. But I've done this a few times before on TH-cam, so a search of my channel should show you how it is done. It's really just two layers of plain weave joined at the back.

    I ordered that same thread in 5 ply for a shawl that I crocheted. It turned out so soft. I love those colors. I could watch you for hours...lol. How heavy are those S hooks? Finiahing my 4th and last set of towels for now. I have a dresser scarf and two table runners on order...

      2.3oz each, cant remember if they are the 2-1/2 inch of 3 inch size. The hardware store sells by size not weight. If I need more weight I just double them up.

    Andy...what kind do warp do you use for your towels?

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My favorite is 8/2 cottolin (or 22/2 cottolin if you use the European measuring system). But I have used 8/2 cotton (that's 2/8 cotton in Canada) and I have used Hemp (forgotten the numbers for that one), and I have used 16/2 cottolin.
