I moved to London in 2021, and I found that every weekend hitting up every (free) museum or gallery I hadn't been to, especially the smaller ones that you'd usually skip on shorter trips, got me out of the house so much more often. I'd usually pair them with whatever bookshop or restaurant/coffee places that were nearby that I wanted to try, and make a nice little day of it. Still mostly go alone though, the 'making friends' part of moving to London is frankly terrible :( Love seeing your journey!!
This is incredibly timely. I have a hard time making friends and as I get older I’m more comfortable just sitting at home. I want to connect with other people, especially people my age.
Hi Kaelyn! I am a long silent viewer of your channel, and wanted to leave a somewhat long comment because I can relate so much with your current situation. I recently moved to Japan as a Literature researcher and I am currently preparing for M.A admissions (your videos actually helped me a lot with writing my Research Proposal for this scholarship I got!). I have been to Japan before and I was so active, and spent years preparing myself to finally come back. But now that I am here alone... since I got my desk I barely leave my room as well! Like you, I suffer a lot from social anxiety, and since I can do my research at home I end up relying on my comfort zone. I know I am missing out a lot out there, but I can't seem to find any motivation to change this mindset I put myself into. A part of me is... scared? While another part of me is like "what is even the point, if the people I love are so far away from me?" It has been a lonely struggle, but your video was a real eye-opener for me, and made me think a lot about my current situation. I will definitely try to get out of my comfort zone... lest I end up losing something precious here. Thank you for the video, take care and sucess with your new journey!
🥺 this comment made this video so worth while to make. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I hope that you too can get out and explore your beautiful surroundings
When we moved to Germany while my husband was in the army I remember how happy I was when I finally took the train for the first time by myself. And when I finally decided to get my license while we were there.
HI Kaelyn! You’ve discovered my favourite London bookstore, Foyles! I can highly recommend spending time in museums and galleries in London, when you join one as a member you can often access a member’s only lounge, and they offer tea/coffee making it a great place to study. I hope everything is going well for you in London and can’t wait to see where the remainder of your PhD takes you. I’m currently 6 months into my MFA here in Australia, and am about to hand in my first lit review… wish me luck!! x
I love this invitation to embrace our multitudes, professionally and otherwise! Also, watching your content inspired me to (finally) invest in an ergonomic desk chair after my crappy old one literally broke recently. Deciding to invest in myself in this way has easily 10X'd my productivity and happiness!
Dex sounds amazing! Exactly what I need before embarking on this next chapter of life. I just signed up for the 7-day trial :) I also intend to move to London from the US on the HPI visa in the next couple of months. Any more content you want to make about that whole experience would be amazing!
We have the same Daunt Books bag in the same color. I start law school there in the Fall so I'm ready to head back (I'm American as well). Love your channel!
I still use their notebooks because I love the paper quality but wanted a more personalized option for weekly goal setting so I made my own digital planner
Can we be like friends? Also, I think it will be cool to have a fieldwork group. I am in fieldwork (preliminary only, pre-As), and it is super isolating. So glad you are pushing yourself to connect. Hannah
That Bookshop Tours book looks really interesting...and dangerous! (When is payday? Hmm. London might be dangerous for me! Ha, ha!) Moo looks happy! She looks like a puppy!

I’m definitely going to try more solo date days to the local museums! Thank you for this recommendation

@@KaelynGraceApple Yes, I’ve heard.
Kaelyn: “Get out of your comfort zone.”
Me, wrapped up in the comfort of my home: “Whatever do you mean?”
