Through listening to music his whole life, least thats what hes said. People really underestimate how good one can get just from listening to music and having open ears.
Hey Nate, you should do a video like this for the song 'i know you know' by Esperanza Spalding! There is some great stuff in that tune. Love your work mate.
Awesome video man. Love your channel. Can you do on how to play like Robert Sput Searight and/or Larnell Lewis. I would love to hear you descriptions and interpretations of their playing styles and musical idioms. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
hi I was wondering If you knew how to get a drumless version of this song since I want to play it in an audition but I can't use anything with drums. Also I don't have any software that I could use to mix it down, besides maybe garageband. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I still don't understand how do you count on your right hand at 9:26 - 9:32? What's the basic of that count? Is it what music theory called polyrhythms?
Is the hi-hat accent on the 1, & of 2, 4, etc. or is the kick? It's always sounded like the kick is on the downbeats with the hi-hat staggered by a 16th but now I'm not so sure
Very nice video and drumming. Suscribed ! Yeah the drummer of that band has a great musicality and groove. What is your hi hat ? I'm in a hip hop band and looking for that kind of sound. And love yours
Hey nate, great job! just have a question relating to that Chris dave-esque groove perrin plays near the end of the tune. is it displacement using the snare as an anchor point for the other instruments or is it all down to feeling the groove behind the beat, ahead of the beat etc?
This video made me think of some rehearsal fotage i recorded a few months ago, so i uploaded it. It would be fun if you guys checked it out and told me what you think.
The phrasing during the first actual groove part is in 10 or 5 depending on how you count it as opposed to "3 bars of four"
thank you, i thought i was goin crazy.
how Perrin got so good in just a couple of years is beyond me.
Yup. He's beastin

That explains his musicality, but not his technical abilities.

what’s that top hat? sounds amazing
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear the verse groove as 5 bars of 2.
correct
I do 7+3. Or 3+7. I feel like the music is in two odds adding up to 10.

This lesson is up there with 'ants on a log' and 'play standing up'
I don't even know what that means and I still love it:)
Rational Funk with David King... that's what it means haha

16" efx on top, 16" A on bottom
Are you using a metronome in Logic (¿or garageband?)?? And what is the tempo please? I'm struggling to find it, is not that easy...
You say those are 3 bars of 4/4 , i dont understand, thats in 10/8, how did you count it, am i wrong ?
The answer is "I probably f@cked it up". I'm aiming for 65% accuracy with this channel ;)
