      @@Robyne_u61 no, I had good friends in high school who never got in trouble. I never got in trouble either. I wanted to switch electives because my friend said what she was doing was fun and I wanted to do it too. She was just a cruel person who was obviously in the wrong line of work.

      @Honk I'm sorry to hear that. In my state, at least one church in the capital city is offering to allow students to access their wi-fi so they can complete schoolwork. It's actually pretty widespread in rural areas. Whatever public wi-fi is available, there will often be students on it who don't have Internet access in their homes.

    • @watersheepmom167
      @watersheepmom167 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Emily Green measuring kids intelligence is practically useless. Studies have shown that most children do not do well on standardized tests but they do well on other forms of grading. There are people who think differently than the others. Therefore, standardized tests do not measure “smarts”, these standardized tests only measure the ability of the person to take a test.
      These “tests” are merely a way of schools to get funding depending on how the “scores” are.

The average American spends $100 + on a cell phone bill and it doesn't help when people spend $800+ for a iPhone on credit. There's no excuse for not owning a chrome book and a cheap internet plan. Some people can't afford to spend money on a laptop and internet. The cheapest laptop you can get is about $130 refurbished. $130 is a lot of money for most people. Also there are some people who can't even afford the $10/month internet. If you have a choice between food and a laptop, which one would you choose? Most people would choose food. So yes, there is an excuse.

    My university tried online classes when the lockdown first started and it was a disaster, profs didn’t how to teach properly, and students didn’t know know what to do, each prof used a different platform and to put it simply it was a huge mess, eventually they gave up and just gave everyone a passing grade for this semester while they retrain the staff for online classes, create a centralized platform, and mail out laptops and portable WiFi hotspots to lower income students in preparation for the next semester.

    Compounding the issue is the fact that school budgets have been slashed left and right for years to the point where teachers have to either buy the supplies for their students themselves or ask for donations. This is why having a government that favors corporate welfare (tax cuts, big oil subsidies etc.) hurts the average Americans. We need a government that works for everyone, not just big business and wealthy individuals. Do you think a guy like Mitch McConnell spends more time writing bills for the average American or big business.

      Not really. Build character, networking, and some other things. Although I didn’t used much from what I learned, I’ve became disciplined to stay working towards my goals. As a kid going into her freshman year, I think the school board should use this time to improve the school system. There are plenty of better systems around the world.. some don’t require standardized tests for example. I believe we don’t need to have so many standardized tests to define how intelligent we are.

      Same cycle...give us information, remember it, dump it out on test, repeat
      The cycle goes on and on...

      Red Flower exactly! I learned algebra last year and I literally remember nothing now. It’s just so bad how they teach us things. I wish they taught us more useful things. Math isn’t useless but not all of it is useful or needed. They should teach us how to understand the whole thing and not just rules and guidelines without any extra information. Because then, instead of understanding, it’s just memorization. That’s probably why we’re so bad at school

They were so focused on just giving kids work they failed in how the kids would learn. The communication was terrible and for children that were dual language students it fell by not having consistent interpretation of the material. Know they are sending out messages about how the class will be social distanced. Most of the classes are to small with an average of 30 kids. I’ve seen how they handled recess, I don’t have much confidence in social distancing plus learning. No school district was prepared for this and preliminary discussion of what will be is mixed.

    If public schools don’t open in fall we better get back some major tax money since we will be forced to take a huge pay cut to watch and teach our kids.

      There might not be much of a school left for your kids to go to if funding is further cut! Already schools funding has been slashed for next year and layoffs are imminent. Who knows what will happen... hopefully opening schools is possible in fall!

      Rebecca Robinson Our Schools get more money then any other countries in the world, we over spend and it does nothing as our kids lag behind many countries in Math and Science and pretty much every other subject

    I fully understand teachers not being prepared however, many just don’t know how to teach online. In terms of my college classes spring quarter was a dumpster fire of professors not understanding zoom and our online app for homework. I just hope fall goes smoother being fully online :/

    And then there are people like me, who go to community college on financial aid, and our schools basically said here is online classes, no tutors, no teacher aid, figure it out and if you fail you owe us thousands back during a pandemic where most of you likely lost your jobs as is.
    My college had no policies. Every "support" plan they had, had interest. They would bleed you dry, and now thousands of people like me were left with debt, no associates degree, and no way to transfer to a 4 year.

    1 in 5 lack high speed internet 🤣 and what do they consider high speed in? Like 50 mbps exluding cellular I'm sure. Internet is expensive and for the price attrociously slow, but all student's really need to do schoolwork is 2-5mbps.

    • @yourrainydayfund9172
      @yourrainydayfund9172 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1.Households have multiple devices running for, work or entertainment. This 2-5mbps only includes working on something like google docs but we have to consider zoom, and other more intense programs, also parents who work from home and children in the house who need to keep themselves entertained which would allocate 10-15 mbps.The parents alone would take up another 30mpbs leaving the student did ciwnnsjncrifnci neizbconsuand I CBC. ( I’m tired and triggers good night)

    I think that people and their way of responding to cancelled graudations is hurting us students more than the graduation itself. As a student myself, I am less sad about not walking and more sad about the fact that everyone else cannot partake in the celebration.
