Agreed... Heart Attack and Good Luck are almost as popular and iconic as Miniskirt and Like A Cat. They should be next on the priority list. If we wanna go for three songs again, I would also add Oh Boy (one of their underrated Japanese releases) just to mix it up. ;)
In the same vein as Like a Cat is 3rd-gen WJSN The Black's Easy (Director's Cut). Song has a more modern dance beat but still has a bit of the R&B cadence. Budget and visuals are maybe a step lower. The concept is a throwback but seems more...um...inclusive/ambiguous :)

AOA was one of the sexy staples of K-pop girl groups along with SISTAR. There were a bunch of other girl groups that fit into the sexy concept during that time with varying degrees of success. The REALLY interesting thing about AOA is that originally they had two sides. They had a dance side and a band side. If you go back to their first few songs like ELVIS and GET OUT you can watch the band version of these songs. IIRC they eventually had the moniker AOA Black.
Along with 9Muses yes I agree those two groups really brought the sexy concept in such a fresh way and I mean 9 Muses one of the most underrated kpop groups ever

just to piggyback off your comment. i think that female comedian is named Lee Gukjoo. Shes also doing a parody of a male actor/entertainer named Kim Bo Sung. He has a catchphrase: "Loyalty!" which i think shes parodying here. He's known for being one of the icons for macho men in Korea.
Shes one of my favorite female comedians. haha. Shes also really good at dancing and performance. She's done a few cover dances either as part of her comedy skits and on her variety show appearances if i recall.

The Mina incident😢
I was a major stan of AOA back in the day, and they started out as a band/idol group, then moved to just being idols, and went from cute to sexy concepts. They got huge from miniskirt, and had hit after hit after that. Choa (who is the blonde y'all liked) left during their contract due to mental health issues. She was their main vocalist and was a highly praised vocalist among female idols, but left singing because of her depression and anxiety. As far as we know she is doing much better now. After their contract ended initially, some members decided to leave the group. One of those members was Kwon Mina. After she left, she aired out grievences with the group in 2020, and accused fellow member and leader of the group Shin Jimin, (The other short-haired rapper you liked) of bullying her and mistreatment. At this accusation, almost no one actually attempted to wait for evidence or investigation into the claims, and there was a witch hunt that ensued on Jimin. (She was essentially unable to go anywhere or do anything without death threats, harassment, etc.) for a few months, Mina went on air and continued to talk about the bullying and her mental health, but refused to actually greenlight an investigation against Jimin. Surprisingly, the other AOA members (and even the others who'd left if I'm correct) all continued to follow Jimin on social media and did not cast her aside, but also did not side against Mina either, which cost many of them their reputations. Interestingly, for a while, Mina continued to post about her mental health issues all the time, sometimes even graphically (posting self-harm, etc.) which angered and concerned people, but did not make any moves to help herself or change her behavior. After more time, her stories about Jimin's mistreatment and her own troubled home life began to have more inconsistencies that didn't add up, and people started to wonder if her stories were truthful or not. There was then text messages between Jimin and Mina released from before her accusations that did not make sense, showing Jimin apologizing and them having very cute and pleasant messages. Then, conversation excerpts released to the public that showed AOA members met up to talk about the Jimin/Mina situation when it first began, which further confused people. It showed the members being very supportive of both sides, seeing how Mina might've been hurt in some instances, but also saying Jimin was under immense pressure as a leader and did feel guilty and wanted to apologize and make things right (she apologized relentlessly in the excerpts). The members were unhappy with Mina's choice to air everything to the public because it was ruining Jimin's life, and the member's careers, as well as not helping Mina's mental health nor her reputation either. They also were unhappy that Mina did not seem receptive to trying to work things out/kept blaming all her mental health issues on Jimin. Then, Mina posted right after their conversation that Jimin had refused to apologize, which the public now knows is a confirmed lie. Mina continued to message Jimin throughout late 2020 and early 2021 with demeaning and accusatory messages that blamed Jimin for all her hardships, and trying to goad her into violence against her. eventually it was found out that Mina likely mistreated company staff as well, so many people have also gone after Mina for her behavior, and come to the conclusion that her accusations against Jimin may not be entirely true. It's unclear if these excerpts and messages are completely truthful as well, but people agree that Jimin's accusations were not proven nor investigated before her witch hunt, and that Mina's stories were not consistent. The whole thing is a massive gray area, but Jimin has since returned to the music industry in competition programs. AOA has continued despite the controversy, and still had success after everything.

I also read a article about which Choa said another reason was she also sleep deprived and suffered from insomnia which I have that also but I’m not an idol with a busy schedule idk how she did it for so long she has since gotten dream for the issue though she also stated I only know this about her sleep issues because I remember reading about it but not about her other issues

Han mentioned Hyuna, but Hyuna and even Hyolyn and Sunmi (who do sexy, "unconventional" concepts) started their careers during second gen and are a product of the times. Since they're veterans of the industry, people have come to expect that from them because that's what they're known for. However, I can't think of any 3rd or 4th gen groups or soloists that do it like this. It really was a specific era, lol.

Yeah!!! I was so shocked too when i first saw her. Cuz she looks like a freaking living anime girl... How could someone have a face and a figure like that?? All of their body figures are top notch,so lean,slender but curvy feminine sexy at the same time.... So cool.. They remind me of snsd as well... that iconic kpop era!
Brave brother is the producer / writer . he wrote all of aoa discography or most . He also the founder of brave girls 2011. That why you see brave girls with multiple members in their lives early career. The line up in queendom 2 debuted in 2016.
Aoa was my ult group until Choa left (she was my bias). Miniskirt was the start of their sexy concept, any songs before that were more of the cutesy concept. And to answer your questions, Choa is the blonde short haired girl, she was the main vocalist. And the short pink haired girl from Like A Cat is Jimin, she was the leader and the main rapper of the group. I felt that after Chao left the group, their music wasn't as great after that. I was also saddened that my bias had left and i had no bias, until I found Yoohyeon of Dreamcatcher, she made me happy again lol.
AOA black was what i was interested in, But Choa was the best :) AOA was the reason i first saw Mamamoo in Queendom.

I hadn't seen the Like a Cat MV before I think that's my favorite as an MV. Miniskirt is my favorite song of these three. The Miniskirt dance was originally banned. They had to take out the unzipping part before it could be performed on the music shows. There are some reaction shots of other groups that are becaus of that. You may want to watch Good Luck since that is the one that Mamamoo covered on Queendom. There is a dance practice in the first season of Mamamoo TV where they practice the Like a Cat choreo for a medley they are preparing. One of the signatures of AOA is that they are all really tall, you'll notice that on Queendom.
That performance of Miniskirt on Queendom 1 was honestly legendary. It showed they still had it even after losing members and competing with younger groups.
They 100% did chair-ography in Queendom, that's when hoobaes watching from backstage shouted, "That's not fair!!!" as soon as they saw them pulling chairs on stage. Can't miss AOA covering Egotistic in front of Mamamoo and Mamamoo covering Good Luck in front of AOA.
AOA was and will always be a classic group.
Their debut was called "Elvis" really set the tone for the group. And "Like a Cat" is also a hugely popular song across Korea, everyone has done the dance to that at least once.
The blonde girls name is ChoA, main vocalist (she was my bias when she was still in the group, unfortunately left the group few years back) her blonde hair was really iconic since she pretty much had that color during her entire time in the group.
The rapper with the pink hair/short hair is Jimin

after dreamcatcher, only aoa's discography is worthy of no-skip imo. their b-sides are fire and a lot of their songs have a band feel with real instruments whereas a lot of kpop nowadays is mostly synth and noise music. several of the members play instruments and they had a band subunit. their main vocal choa had the trademark short blond hair and has a great vocal tone.
apparently you don't listen to PURPLE KISS? Yeah sure they've only released 4 mini albums and a digital Xmas song so far and I guess maybe they could someday eventually release a bad song, but I find it unlikely. Even their short spooky intro tracks are better than many groups' title tracks...
GWSN was close to no skips in their 5 minis, but had a couple songs that were a bit too... overly cutesy? like Recipe for Simon or 17 Candles. Kinda like the softer side of ELRIS / ALICE or early a few of fromis_9 (1st 2 minis had those spoken poem tracks I could see people skipping).
P.S. DREAMCATCHER company needs to fire the designer of recent album covers -- which are straight up garbage compared to the works of art they used to release. Also 2nd full album Apocalypse Save Us included some weak b-sides -- though it was nice to see the memvers have the solo opportunity.

Ivyshy98, I came down the same rabbit hole as you lol. Aoa was my ultimate group until Choa left, I felt they songs after kinda struggled. I fell off the aoa bandwagon after that. Dreamcatcher took me out of that slump and I love like 99 percent of their discography. Now DC is my ultimate group and always will be! As for Gen X blinks statement, you can't go bashing someone else's taste in music. Like or hate a song, it's only ur perspective and ur taste. And yes I've heard a purple kiss song, sorry to say, it's a pass for me, doesn't make their song bad, it's just not my taste. And DC Apocalypse save us album, chef's kiss! Every track slaps! But hey, that's my opinion 😘
@@kheatshadows yeah we are the same. sometimes when I listen to an aoa song I'm like this is typical/ordinary... then choa comes in and wow, she totally makes the song. not their title tracks as much, but a lot of aoa's b-sides are on the band/rock side which totally appeals to me. when kpop started going down the synth/trap/noise music with hard drops, I drifted away but like with you, dreamcatcher brought me back. as for the other comments, sure lots of groups have good songs, but even like red velvet has songs that their own fans go wtf so that's why they don't make it to non-skip discography. other groups have great vocals but the musical style isn't for me. a lot of kpop nowadays just has no musicality imo. it's heavily produced and marketed for teens. labels just follow the trend and release essentially different versions of a previous hit song and the fans mindlessly gobble it up. but that's my opinion and music is all personal preference anyways :)

The Blonde one is ChoA, by bias, my vocal goddess, she left the group the 2017 due to depression and anxiety, thankfully she left before AOA imploded because of Minas bullying allegations against their leader Jimin. Choa has since come back as a solo artist! you should check out some of the shows shes been on and her music!

Miniskirt is special to Elvis ( their fandom). It was their first show win. Sadly, there will be no new music from them, as the group is basically over only having 2 members left. As to the video view counts, FNC changed from Bugs to 1theK for hosting the MV's. In response, Bugs deleted all of the videos, losing the view counts. Their is also an 8th member, Youkyung. She was the drummer for their variant, AOA Black.

Finally you reacted to AOA, one of my favorite 2nd gen groups! I first got into them around the same time Han did and was super young at the time. K-Pop back then indeed was so different and AOA was a true gem. ChoA, the blonde with short hair, was one of my ults and bias of this group. I was devastated when she left the group in 2017 due to mental health problems but so grateful she was able to put her health first and recover, unlike many idols out there, even openly speak about it which, for the longest time, that had been a complete taboo in this industry. This woman remains iconic for that reason alone but also her insane talent, outstanding vocals and amazing personality. She is an angel indeed, so it was very fitting for her to be a member of this group at one point. These days, she's active again as a soloist, actually and her music is great. I highly recommend you check it out some time too. That aside, AOA-wise, their early stuff is very worth checking out too, imo. I suggest "Elvis" and "Moya". They were a very experimental group who started off with a more rocky sound and all the members apart from ChoA who was a strict vocalist, playing instruments, almost qualifying them as a K-band rather than K-Pop group. They had an actual drummer, Yookyoung, join them for this project as well who sadly later left them once they turned into a full-blown K-Pop and vocal group. The "guy" featured in the Short Hair mv is actually a woman in disguise. Her name is Lee Gook-Ju and she's a well-known comedienne in South-Korea who sadly has received lots of backlash from K-Netz for her weight since she's a little more on the heavier side. Her personality is actually very sweet though and quite a few well-known South-Korean celebrities have publicly defended and spoken up for her. 🥹❤️

You need to check the sub groups too. AOA Black has "MOYA" which the members play instruments, and AOA Cream who sang "I'm jelly baby!" on Queendom. I love Moya, I'ts a cute song and the video is cute too.
Okay you have to react to Stellar!! One of the most controversial girl groups ever. Can recommend Vibrato, Sting, Marionette, basically their whole discography. Would also be very interesting for you to dig into their story a bit. Very telling for the „sexy“ concept and the treatment of women in K-pop in general.

So you guys know, AOA has been unofficially disbanded since 2020 due to a scandal involving Mina and Jimin. Basically, Mina accused Jimin of bullying her for over 10 years so Jimin was forced to retire. Mina used self harm pictures and other stuff to spread this info so the general public believed her. However, in the past few years, Mina has been exposed for having lied about a lot of information regarding Jimin and her other members. Therefore, this has turned into a T-Ara situation where the supposed victim ended up actually being the real bully. Turns out, during her time in the group, Mina was lazy and difficult to work with. She only ever took 3 vocal lessons in her 7 year stint in AOA. She used to bully and gaslight members of staff and even got a Nurse fired just because she didn't like her. Luckily, since then, Jimin has been able to come out of retirement and return to the K-pop industry as a solo artist.
Oh, and AOA had a secret 8th member, who they dubbed a 'Half-Angel' since she only performed with AOA in their Subunit AOA Black, which is a band sub-unit. Her name is Youkyung and she was the sub-unit's drummer. She left AOA in 2016 though she said she'd be a guest member if AOA Black ever had another comeback, which never happened.

I’m honestly worried for Kess if these were a lot for her lol, because there are some SEXY MVs from this era. Stellar, HelloVenus, 4L, NineMuses, Girls Day, etc.
This was THE era for the sexy concept, which is why you don’t see these songs being covered as much today. The sexy concept isn’t “in” right now (which is good because literally every group right now has at least 1 minor). It also has to do with the fact that girl groups are allowed to have more complex concepts now. Back in the day, if you weren’t a big name group you were either Cutesy, Sexy or Girl Crush.
4L’s Move is one of THE most gratuitously, overtly sexualized music videos of all girl group history. It’s borderline gross, since it was their debut and they went HARD in order to gain fame.
If you do come back to AOA, I heavily suggest you check out the MV for ‘Confused’. It’s an underrated song from them as its a little slow but it’s got amazing vocals and the MV is super choreography heavy.
Just wait for Jimin’s rap, you wont be able to handle it.
Another k-pop trend-relic that AOA owned was eye-contact dance practise videos... Today it's super absurd as a concept, but it truly played into their group concept perfectly.

Bing Bing, Excuse me, Heart Attack
This is the era where all kpop idols are on the right age where as today's era there are a lot of minor idols... Back in the day you have AOA, Sistar, Girls Generation and ETC. For males you have BigBang, TVXQ, and more where today we have teens in groups like new jeans NMIXX and more for girls for boys you have NCT treasure
1. You left out their best song - "Heart Attack."
2. The one with short blond hair is Choa - the oldest and main vocal. The rapper is the leader, Jimin. The one who gets most screen time is Seolhyun; she is the one that starts and ends "Miniskirt" in bed.. Although she is not officially the visual, she is the visual. These three have outsized popularity compared to the other four - Heyjeong (the official visual), Yuna, Mina and Chanmi (maknae, main dancer). The other two are vocalists.
3. AoA was supposed to be an actual band. The members play musical instruments. They were going to have the band side and the dance side. The former wasn't that popular, so they leaned into the latter. There used to be an 8th member - Youkyung, a drummer who was only on the band side. After the band concept was to be discontinued, she left the group.
4. Before the "Bingle Bangle" comeback, Choa left the group for mental health reasons. However, she is now back as a soloist. She also has a TH-cam channel. The next member to drop out of the group was Mina. This is why you will only see 5 members in Queendom. A couple years ago, Mina accused Jimin of bullying her during her time with the group. Jimin denied it, but she was pressured to quit anyway. After that, Mina couldn't shut up on socal media, and between her own weird statements and some staff members coming forward, it turned out that she wasn't bullied - just difficult to work with. Jimin in now back as a soloist.
5. In "Short Hair," the woman playing the man in the video is the comnedienne Lee Guk Joo. If you want to see something funny, check out her collaboration with Apink in which she dances with them in "Mr. Chu."
6. If you want to see an even more exploitative 2nd gen (maybe early 3rd) K-pop mv, check out "Joker" by Dal Shabet.
COOL! Yeah, AOA are a LOT to take in. That's the fun of having videos that you can go back and watch as many times as you want. That way you can catch everything, even if it takes several watch-throughs. By doing that, you also support the group. :)
not kpop related, but i've been watching you guys for a while now, and i feel like y'all might enjoy this thai gl called gap the series. it's about Mon, a young woman who starts work at the company of a person she's admired since young, Sam.
the character development and plot is really very interesting and the actresses freen and becky have great chemistry so everything feels really natural!
so far there are 6 eps out on the IDOLFACTORY channel with eng subs. new eps air every saturday. every ep is up to an hour, since it's quite long i don't expect you guys to react tbh but i will watch if you do haha.
just hope you guys can check it out and support, it's probably one of the first wlw centric shows we have from thailand/southeast asia. and the romance is super cute, it's probably my favourite wlw show, honest.

Q Egotistic is an iconic moment in k pop. Highly skilled musicians/crew but they sometimes got stuck with the “hot girl” label. Bay Watch visuals for Good Luck as an example. But these are talented k pop artists who just happened to be stunning visuals. If you listen to Good Luck with no video it hits completely different. ChoA vocal range and soul? My god. And don’t sleep on Sorry & 10 Seconds. We probably won’t see a musician/idol/visual combo like AOA again.
