I get that, but sometimes there are difficulties/problems, things that need to be figured out to make a good character, they definitly werent bad though.
Every model that you made looks so much like earthbound its nostalgic in a way any of these people would fit right in earthbound. Its probably the characters stance

The cream always rises to the top. For real all those characters you came up with where really cool and I wanna see them come alive in a animated story of some kind.
Usually a good character is tailor made for a story. A lot of people make characters and then don't know what to do with them. First you figure out what story you wanna make and then you build the characters based on the story. The basic is this: Negative experience (never positive) leads to -> worldview (for example: I lost someone when I was young and I wasn't strong enough then leading to "Strength is the only thing that matters, if I am strong I can protect anyone") -> how the person interacts in his life with anything and anyone (based on that worldview), (you can also add a bonus such as "the lie they say to not admit their true beliefs" to others and to themselves). That should be more than enough to make a basic level compelling character. Motives wants and needs usually don't matter unlike popular opinion since humans change their wants and needs constantly and they are rarely defined by only their goal. However their goal, want and need are heavily affected by their worldview which in turn is heavily affected by their negative experience.
I have been watching LocalScriptMan for a long time now, and so I was super excited seeing his videos mentioned here! It was really exciting to see his writing theory combined with your character designs and visuals! Honestly I hope to hear more about this silly cast of characters :)
I've been watching Local script man for a bit and it was so cool to see you develop characters from start to finish! I'd love to see another video with you making characters from a plot since you said you wanted to do that. My favorites are Rama and BT, but I also like Sola!
this is quite funny when it was mentioned you want to make stories i instantly thought of LocalScriptMan for some good takes, it is always so easy to fall into the vague nonsensical story telling trap, where people only use broad and common misused terms thinking it makes them sound smart xD
I primarily dabble in OC art (because I don't have any actual art skills), better than design, I never really give them personalities. this video helped alot!!!
