I remember Thursday night Top Of The Pops ... I loved Dollar when it seemed no one else did !! Ho hum .. but my 206 thousand subscribers like my music now ... hee hee... Tim :)
That's Graham Broad on drums who went on to drum on the entire ABC album "Alphabet City" as well as he was the tour drummer for Roger Waters on his "In The Flesh" tour. Beyond brilliant drummer!!!
Myles check out the “80sography” podcast . The Gary Langan episode , Trevor Horns right hand man , goes into detail on this and ABC etc . Well worth a listen . Link below.
A groundbreaking pop masterpiece from 1981 which still sounds as fresh today as it did back then. The duo had its naysayers but some of us knew better and recognised what we were hearing and seeing: the music journalist Alexis Petridis would go on to say that The Dollar Album mapped out the sonic future of 80s pop, with booming drums, high-drama synthesisers and sampled voices.
Superb songwriting. Love the unconventional 11-bar pattern of the first two verses. Masterful production by Trevor Horn, seen here standing at the back with his bass
thanks to Trevor Horn who worked on Dollar material . the sound is awesome. Dollar are gorgeous and sang brilliant hits . pity they were not successful across Europe.
It has Trevor Horn written all over it. He is one of the best around, in how to set up a damn good pop tune. That multi-layered sound that he produces and Thereza Bazar looking fabulous and sings well, is a great combination
Her collar and cuffs seldom matched but I didn't care and 40 years on my loins still ache for Thereza Bazar. At school the talk on a post 'Pops' day would be all about Debbie Harry, but I only had eyes for Thereza.😍
Also from the year 1981 here are British New-Wave pop group Dollar performing their 1981 Pop hit 'Hand Held In Black In White'. This single was one of the first singles, that truly defined Dollar's sound for the rest of their music career. Even though the rest of their career was short lived, they left a legacy in British pop Music that other British pop groups( whether they acknowledged it or not) would emulate in their own music pop careers. It was the Record Producer Trevor Horn who would give the group the remainder of their British Pop success, by producing their 3rd Studio Album 'Dollar' released on the 22ND October 1982. Dollar really were the first 'Sexy' group in Modern, British Pop Music.
Thanks for posting and for those pointing out the genius Trevor Horn at the back on bass. Guessing I was too fixated at the time on super sexy Thereza which is understandable…
Such poptastic music david n Theresa total legends, not given enough credit dollars rullllzzzzz mirror mirror a classic too...dollar rulllllzzzzzźz!always make me so happy listening to their music!
Trevor Horn / Bruce Woolley) On a ticket Tokyo return Colour evening palaces that burn Some expression leading to the sky They will wait until you learn to fly Chorus Hand held in black and white Into the northern light Fly like a silver wing higher Catching the southern wind Gliding and other things Fly like a silver wing higher Inner visions written on the wall In graffiti winner takes it all Take a chance and put your money down We will race you high above the ground Repeat chorus Inner visions written on the wall In graffiti winner takes it all Take a chance and put your money down We will race you high above the ground Repeat chorus to fade
Notice the military tunic Theresa is wearing..not only was she gorgeous but at the time a trend setter too!..Fish of Marillion,Biff Byford of Saxon and Joe Elliot of Def Leopard and Gary Moore to name just a few all followed suit in the years to come..but it only ever looked good on this lovely lady.
Poptastic is the word. The actual production is brilliant. Pure Trevor Horn and David's and Theres's voices compliment the arrangement. 80's pop at its best Not to be knocked.
Takes me back to going on a Fairground ride with a girl I adored at school!..this was played into the August night & yes I paid 50p each ..it was 1981!.make it sound like 'Gregorys Girl' I know but it was worth it!
I remember them being worse than this - slow soppy songs. Definitely going to have to buy this album (on vinyl of course!). Edit: Hmmm, having listened to the entire Dollar Album on YT, I don't think I'll be buying it. There are two great Trevor Horn songs, but the rest are the kind of bland songs I associate Dollar with in my memories. Like the lovely Theresa Bazar said, it's a shame that they couldn't work more with Horn, because they would have been a great combination. And the real irony is that their compilation album "The Very Best of Dollar" doesn't contain Mirror, Mirror, Hand Held in Black and White or O L'Amour, which were actually the very best of dollar.
It was never offered to bucks fizz at all, theresa bizzar had met trever horn at a party in the 70s, and after she saw video killed the radio star buggles hit which she liked she called and wrote to trevorl asking him to write and produce something for Dollar, in a letter she enclosed a black and white photo of dollar and explained how they were going to Japan for promotion, from this trevor wrote this track especially for Dollar, it never had anything to do with bucks fizz.
Watched Teresa on tv this week. She seems funny and lovely. Still looking good at 67. Time hasn’t been good to him considering he was beautiful. Looks like a baked monkey😅😅😅😅😅😅
Trevor Horn playing bass here.... wow. He made some killer pop with Dollar.
Such an underrated and iconic pop duo. Music today is no comparison to this. Simply brilliant.
That’s a big stretch.
Good song.Top of the pops in the 80s. Every Thursday night I use to look forward to watch it as a teenager in Raheen Limerick Ireland 😅.

This duo are actually very good they never got the recognition they deserved.
But Trevor Horn did. (Holding bass guitar) 👍
God I miss growing up to these, 50 this year and still loving the songs

Love how Trevor Horn is playing base casually in the background!!
Good spot, hiding at 2:47
Keyboard player is Howard Goodall who composed themes for Qi, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Mr. Bean, The Thin Blue Line, The Vicar of Dibley.
Trevor Horn wrote some of Dollars songs, saw him at a Sunday for Sammy and he was saying how he had to put up with a prat called David Van Day.
@@Yahatacooky I thought that curly hair was familiar. Also a TV and radio presenter.
Look how much Thereza loves David and in return how much David loves David as well
Come on be honest , we all loved david !
No one loves David as much as David loves him.
There is a video if you can find it, where he sadly split up with Theresa, through dumping her live, over not being happy about something.
DjDanceClassic beats me what the stunning feminine Tereza saw in that man.
😂😅😂

As an 11 year old I loved this. Still good years later❤

Oh, that bass guitar is remarkably prominent in the mix, I wonder why that might be? Hi Trevor!
DVD and TB - what a combo. Great lyrics. 80's at their best. She clearly loved him. High above the ground!
Trevor Horn, Graham Broad and Howard Goodall as your backing band! Love this track - such a gem.
Straight back 42 years to August 81

Very nice tune of course thank you too.
As we're their other hits too also.
She’s 67 now and still bloody gorgeous which is more than can be said about him.
She is currently touring. Yes, she still looks great. I can imagine her being a very nice person. He is deluded.

Absolutely, I would never have chosen Debbie Harry above Therese Bazar.
I thought so: that’ Trevor Horn on bass.
Some one bring on a mirror for David....It's been five minutes since he looked in one.
david van day never realised that the real star of the show was standing next to him
Real stars at the back in the glasses
Is that Howard Goodall on keyboards and Trevor Horn on base?
