yeah I'm 16 and I really was into black metal for a while but besides ulver for me its something you grow out of. Watching some black metal bands in Kiss makeup and running around in a forest was kinda a turn off (IMMORTAL!). I mean its fun for a while and the stories about varg are hilarious but it gets old.
In 1999 the group declared: “Ulver is obviously not a black metal band and does not wish to be stigmatized as such. We acknowledge the relation of part I & III of the Trilogie (Bergtatt & Nattens Madrigal) to this culture, but stress that these endeavours were written as stepping stones rather than conclusions. We are proud of our former instincts, but wish to liken our association with said genre to that of the snake with Eve... (continues...)
Ulver would never regret their black metal roots and for you're information black metal is considered the most open-minded metal genre and surely NOT retarded
why is everyone so opposed to people placing music into genres? ok fair enough some people do get carried away.. but identifying music into genres helps others find other musicians with a similar sound. otherwise how would they know where to look?
because there is actually no such thing as a genre of music just a lot of people, their skills, their expressions and their inspirations labeling music is a commercial tool, like genres of porn, to help customer quickly find something approximately to their liking music has its history, its context, its developement it is a work of certain people, with certain lives, environment, beliefs and wishes and as a work music has certain number of methods, tricks and decisions which musicians use in some sense predictably, so you can roughly divide music by how it was made but actual music is much, much more than that and some musicians go so far in their art, ideas and expressions--you cannot measure their music in any way really so if you want to find certain music--search for history, for social moods and needs which music met at the time and search for innovators and geeks, who went out of the bonds of a meaning of music at that time because these guys were able to say such things, that are just impossible to be said other, than how they did
@EvanMetalReaper although we cant directly compare them, it´s still something ulver-ish about their stuff, if I were to suddenly stumble upon something new from them, I would most likely recognize them, and yes, I also do listen to both new and old ;)
@dakotamanomgwtf Actually Ive listened almost only to diffrent genres of metal before including some old black metal bands like mayhem, dimmu borgir, burzum, immortal, emperor, old agalloch songs, summoning songs and many more than I could ever remember. Just that Ive since then Ive moved away from metal and only listen to it time to time. Most of the black metal I didnt like but really I say that about almost all bands in whatever genre I hear so that doesnt really mean anything.
@hawkdown69 Comparing the two periods as you do is like saying "Ludwig van Beethoven owns Miles Davis" : you're not forced to like both, but you can't compare them for they have nothing in common.
"(from previous...) An incentive to further frolic only. If this discourages you in any way, please have the courtesy to refrain from voicing superficial remarks regarding our music and/or personae. We are as unknown to you as we always were."
@Ascellius Wow, I've never gotten such a pissy response to a comment that's over a yeard old. The point I was making was that you can't compare Ulver's new to Ulver's old. Jesus.
@Findulidas Do you listen to black metal? I doubt you know much about it judging from your favorites and you shouldn't go around saying one genre isn't better than another and then saying Ulver is more than any black metal bands.
Genres are not open minded, only people and I'm not stupid or ignorant enough to label a whole group of people musically narrow minded because of the genre of music they listen to.
Stop comparing Ulver's new and old. That would be as stupid as comparing black metal with ambient experimental...which is exactly what every one is doing. Listen to this or listen to their old stuff.
Then again. Saying that black metal is better than some other genre of music is in many ways stupid since its all about taste, wheter you like it or not. I for one think what ulver has become is much more than any band playing black metal could ever be. You can only do so much if you limit yourself to a genre.
Lmao no way black metal is the most open-minded genre of metal music. Seriously what are you thinking? 96-97% or higher of black metal sounds identical. Exactly the same. Ulver was one of the few original bands, but you can only do so much in black metal. Oh and Ulver is way better now.
I did like the music then I started reading about varg vikerness and other killers related to black metal, I listened to Darkthrone, Dimmu, Rotting Christ, Emperor, Immortal, Marduk, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Dissection etc. I'm sick off racist facist shit. I sick of fucking forests and people breathing fire. I'm tired of the generic black metal band and people ripping off of Bathory. I even got my friends into black metal. I still listen to Agalloch, borknagar, Bathory and enslaved. But I'm done now
@MrMerlin87, because 90% of the time it leads to pointless genremasturbation and even more pointless bitching. yeah, i do get the basic idea what you're going to do with it but barely ANiYONE is as sensible with it as you seem to. i myself browse by bands by people, not by genres. there are sites like encyclopedia metallum that link bands with people. its easy to see what the guy has done, and what other bands he's linked to. then its just a matter of checking the name out. tadah! problem solv'd
Wooo tare ca mai asculta si alti romani Ulver.
I like the old Ulver songs and i also like their new music, they're great!
Ulver are musical geniouses, both new and old are great... I view it as a travel through time.
This is so good I don't usually like tecno, or synth type stuff
limbo central name of this song

That makes two of us, only a few agree..
Hail Ulver! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Polish slovian pagan se yes love that music thanks
This video is perfect for this song! I never even knew this was made.
I really really really dig there old stuff, especially Nattens Madrigal, but even as a black metal fan I have to admit, this is pretty funky! :D
In 1999 the group declared:

just great love the clip
Ulver would never regret their black metal roots and for you're information black metal is considered the most open-minded metal genre and surely NOT retarded
now 6 :)
grettings from southamerica, Chile
Great! Greetings.
ulver's first 3 albums were BM.
Great! The Epicenter of Mediocrity? Interresting.. Greetings.
why is everyone so opposed to people placing music into genres? ok fair enough some people do get carried away.. but identifying music into genres helps others find other musicians with a similar sound. otherwise how would they know where to look?
because there is actually no such thing as a genre of music
just a lot of people, their skills, their expressions and their inspirations
labeling music is a commercial tool, like genres of porn, to help customer quickly find something approximately to their liking
music has its history, its context, its developement
it is a work of certain people, with certain lives, environment, beliefs and wishes
and as a work music has certain number of methods, tricks and decisions which musicians use in some sense predictably, so you can roughly divide music by how it was made
but actual music is much, much more than that
and some musicians go so far in their art, ideas and expressions--you cannot measure their music in any way really
so if you want to find certain music--search for history, for social moods and needs which music met at the time
and search for innovators and geeks, who went out of the bonds of a meaning of music at that time
because these guys were able to say such things, that are just impossible to be said other, than how they did
these are musical genius
@EvanMetalReaper although we cant directly compare them, it´s still something ulver-ish about their stuff, if I were to suddenly stumble upon something new from them, I would most likely recognize them, and yes, I also do listen to both new and old ;)
How was agalloch live I really want to see them.
@dakotamanomgwtf Actually Ive listened almost only to diffrent genres of metal before including some old black metal bands like mayhem, dimmu borgir, burzum, immortal, emperor, old agalloch songs, summoning songs and many more than I could ever remember. zOMGWTF! BBQFTW!
But seriously, cool song =) I love Ulver.
sounds like trip-hop
This makes you the 100th person to have told me that ;)
@LEG0B0Y agree apart from last bit. I say listen to both but don't compare. It's not hard to do.
@hawkdown69 Comparing the two periods as you do is like saying "Ludwig van Beethoven owns Miles Davis" : you're not forced to like both, but you can't compare them for they have nothing in common.
Their* old stuff, even! >.>
@80smetalchild I think I've literally received the reply to listen to both at least two dozen times.
@LEG0B0Y Why not listen to both?
yeah I listen to them are you agreeing with me or what.
listen both!! ;)
@RogerSteve1994 so true !!!
"(from previous...) An incentive to further frolic only. If this discourages you in any way, please have the courtesy to refrain from voicing superficial remarks regarding our music and/or personae. We are as unknown to you as we always were."
@JosePablo24 Electronic, Ambient.
anyone tells me what genre of music is this? o.o
@LEG0B0Y
Is that the inclusive or exclusive 'or'?
make that 3.
greetings from the epicenter of mediocrity, midwest USA
A good song to drink tea with am I right?
@Ascellius Wow, I've never gotten such a pissy response to a comment that's over a yeard old.

@Findulidas Do you listen to black metal? I doubt you know much about it judging from your favorites and you shouldn't go around saying one genre isn't better than another and then saying Ulver is more than any black metal bands.
@LEG0B0Y i dont understand how they could do such a change. Btw, i rather listen to both
@TheYersinia666 caring about genres doesn't mean you're not open minded.
Yes ! i have win something ? :O
or listen both
listen to both -or don't
@LEG0B0Y or listen to both and enjoy !
Genres are not open minded, only people and I'm not stupid or ignorant enough to label a whole group of people musically narrow minded because of the genre of music they listen to.
So much more haunting and deep than anything 'black metal'
Man, I don't get the hype around this. It sounds like a low-budget track to a crappy mystery movie.
you metal fans gotta label everything dont you?
Mostly adults? Are you serious? 99,99% of black metal listeners are 10-15 years old computernerds for sure.
parca ulver cantau alt gen de muzica , mai grindcore asha ... confund , sau si-au schimbat stilul de muzica ?
Umh, isnt black metal mostly for kids and preteens...?
Stop comparing Ulver's new and old. That would be as stupid as comparing black metal with ambient experimental...which is exactly what every one is doing.
Listen to this or listen to their old stuff.
what song is this??
Despacito.
Then again. Saying that black metal is better than some other genre of music is in many ways stupid since its all about taste, wheter you like it or not.

what kind of music are they?
I did like the music then I started reading about varg vikerness and other killers related to black metal, I listened to Darkthrone, Dimmu, Rotting Christ, Emperor, Immortal, Marduk, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Dissection etc. I'm sick off racist facist shit. Why? If you want to listen children music, there is plenty of other black metal bands doing it better than ulver did
la bandet lage den musikken de vil. Jeg liker bare Bergtatt albumet selv, men det er ingen grunn til barnslige kommentarer som dette
He's right. Black Metal sucks. Get over it.
boring
