      He didn't find any health problems in Africa because they didn't live long enough to get any but the real reason is he was blinking his eyes and twitching so much from eating so much junk like margarine and skim milk he got no real Vitamin A1 which is Retinol. He admitted he had no credentials in nutritional biochemistry.

    “The sadness to me (and this particularly concerns the cancer field) is that all the emphasis today is put on diagnosis and treatment of disease, and yet we are never going to reduce any disease by early diagnosis or treatment. The only way you reduce disease (other than infectious disease, by immunization)… is to identify causative factors and reduce causative factors. Yet all the money goes into early diagnosis and treatment….Therapeutic medicine is where the money is.”
    That comment is so important to remember when thinking about the health of ourselves and other loved ones.

      I went and READ about Dr, Burkitt's life...wow.....remarkable.....so GLAD he found out about the FIBER....my dad and brother both died of colon cancer, 1988 and 2010 respectively.....both were depressed and eating total CRAP for foods at the time--they did not CARE anymore...and BOTH former smokers but I believe colon cancer is not heavily linked to cigarette smoking. LOVE my plant-based lifestyle since 2010....at 64, I donate blood regularly, and have ZERO aches or pains and am not on any scrips.

    Dr Burkitt mentions a doctor named Peter Cleave who influenced his thinking. Thomas L Cleave, known to his friends as Peter, had a sister that died of appendicitis at 8. Here's a direct quote from Wikipedia about Dr Cleave "Charles Darwin's writings provided the intellectual framework to Cleave's lifelong engagement with the relationship between diet and health, built upon the premise that the human body is ill-adapted to the diet of modern (western) man".

    Dr. Denis Burkitt was way ahead of his time in focusing on a low fiber diet as the cause of most of the chronic diseases in the western world. Today, with greater understanding of the human microbiome, we know more about the exact mechanisms that his research could only infer.
    Unfortunately, most Americans only get about a quarter to a third the fiber they should be eating in their diets. Some things have not changed.

    • @riceisnice444
      @riceisnice444 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Amanda_downunder They usually do intermittent fasting to get the results, which can be obtained if eating fast food and OMADing. Also, the high fat diet raises cortisol and lowers the immune system causing a feel good honeymoon period in some. Also, don't believe all the hype. I have seen in the last week two carnivore channels admit they were admitted to the hospital on the diet, one is losing her eye to a horrible infection, she is in her 20's and another had to have his appendix out. But they refuse to blame the diet. I have also had several message me and tell me of their hospital experiences on the diet, one had afib and the other lost her ability to walk. Most of it is smoke and mirrors with paid bot comments and fake testimonies.

    I always knew my dumps where telling me about the appropriateness of my diet. When I eat lots to lentils beans and chickpeas my dumps
    Come out effortlessly and clean and nearly odorless. Lots of meat and it’s the opposite. Hard, sometimes painful and smells like well …

      He admitted he had no credentials in nutritional biochemistry so to him margarine and shortening which are loaded in trans fats were healthy. And with his eyes twitching and nervous behavior shows he was eating a junk food diet.

    So, the more fiber, the less processed food. So stay away from processed food, and remember, the dangers of processed seed oils fit the bill as well. Processed foods are primarily made of processed sugar, processed oil, and processed grains.

    I have never been to any african country but my guess is africans are not crazy about margarine. It can be hard for some people give up applying margarine or butter on bread/grains/corn. I prefer sprouted grains rather than processed food like bread and other powdered products.

    I appreciate all you've done for myself and so many. After a lifetime of chronic indigestion, constipation, and so on, I started eating more fiber about 10 years ago, and slowly all my symptoms went away, almost entirely. However after watching this video, I'm wondering if 35gms of fiber daily is enough. When he says some cultures consume over 100gms/daily, I'm thinking "How?" I eat almost a vegan diet of about 2000 calories, how can a person get 1gm of fiber for every 20 calories?

      @splatted6201 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's pretty trivial to get that number up if your calorie-dense foods are also fiber-dense. Black beans, for example, seem to be reported with fiber contents of 1g:20cal to 1g:14cal. Collards are 1g:10cal or so, apples are a hair worse than 1g:20 and bulgur is around 8g:150

      splatted maybe I had the information wrong, I was focusing on fruits too much

    • @AndyMorrisArt
      @AndyMorrisArt 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that might be hyperbole probably they have grams of fiber looks like about .7 - 1 gm/22 calories so if ALL I ate was fruit and ate 2000 calories I'd get about 77 gms of fiber still not 100

    • @AndyMorrisArt
      @AndyMorrisArt 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was commenting that getting OVER 100 was extraordinary considering the relative fiber values of common vegan foods like brown rice and potatoes and based on a 2000 calorie diet, but they may be consuming 4000 calories some people do
      and then you wanted to argue, now you concede, and I accept

      MORE PLANTS. Fruits n vegetables are high in fiber and low in calories, so i add in another serving or two of whole plant foods, up your fiber.

  • @colonyofcells

    Looking at traditional lifestyles, unrefined/unprocessed plant food, low animal products & exercise are good. Iceland is the exception and has more unique types of animal products like a2 casein protein cattle. Unfortunately, the message of Dr Denis Burkitt has been reduced from lifestyle change to just a fiber message. Africa has the lowest rates of diabetes & following many items in the whole african lifestyle is a good idea instead of focusing on just 1-2 items of the whole african lifestyle.
