    Federal gov needs to make deposit a national mandate. Our planet over profit.

    I always thought the Government should help homeless people by picking them up, assigning them a tiny home. The Government would help them get a job, while they are looking for a job the government would have a bus pick them up every morning and they pick up trash or clean up the local community for money.
    This would get homeless people back to work and money to help them be independent again. As well as clean our streets and make our citys look beautiful.

      That is a good idea...but the production industries are the ones producing the garbage in the first place and it's all the same greedy people. The ultimate responsibility should be put on the people inventing the garbage in the first place,and the profit hungry governments allowing it to wreck our planet.

    As a groundskeeper, 90% of the trash I pick up is stuff that could go in the recycling bin. It's maddening to find so much.

    Hi Lucy! I love your videos, they always inspire me. I live in Germany and here is normal to pay deposit for all glas and plastic bottles (glas 8 cent and plastic 25 cent) and that helps so much, the people bring them back or they let them aside so others can bring them back and make some money, so I say: it should be everywhere in the world like that, greetings!

    • @lucylyonsbiggers
      @lucylyonsbiggers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      25 cents! Wow that is wild. It makes sense though, that way people understand they're paying for the material and will get the $ back when they return it

    I grew up during the 70’s earning my pocket money from returning glass Coke and milk bottles in South Australia. Back then Coke bottles were 20c and milk bottles 10c.
    Queensland reintroduced the bottle deposit scheme for 10c on containers, and the recycling rates have skyrocketed. I rarely see cams and bottles littering the sides of the road these days. I have heard of some people using it for their income. It certainly comes in handy for spare pocket money and keeps the recycling much cleaner.

    This depositum is no new thought. That's how we do it in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Here in Norway, we call it "Pant", and the depositum is ca 20 cents or 0,5l bottles, and higher volumes has 30 cents
    I really hope the idea spreads out to the rest of the world!

    Those hefty clear recycling bags are NOT recyclable. I was sad to see lucy using it.
    Hefty needs to be called out. Their box markets and manipulates the uninformed. Everywhere I have read, whether the clear bag is tied or not, the bag is not welcome for curbside recycling and the bin will be denied/tagged until someone deals with the consumers mistake.
    Just carry your recycling down in the same plastic bin and dump. Bring the bin back up to your apartment to reuse. No need for a bag ...........

    • @lucylyonsbiggers

After all, I have a study on it. Still, their machines were broke. They don't even recycle have to stuff they get.

    Outside of recycling aluminum (and sometimes other metals), recycling does more harm than good. It uses more resources than it saves. It is cheaper in resources, energy and time to make new plastic and glass bottles and responsibly landfill the old ones than recycle them. Anyone who has studied recycling knows this.
