One thing that I find flawed about this is how they calculated the death tolls for all the MIRV missiles. The video treated them as if they are a single warhead with a strength of the combined blast yield of each warhead- but it would be much worse than that. On re-entry they would likely spread out and bracket their target, making a much wider kill area than a single bomb of combined yield would since blast yield to radius doesn't scale linearly. 1 nuke of a strength vs 2 nukes of half that strength spread out is gonna cover more area so long as they are somewhat spread out, which they will be as they fall in from space Also, the compared death tolls in general is kinda weird since they decided to use different cities for each one with much different population densities, so it doesnt really give a good feel for what an increasingly destructive blast would actually do.

There is a guy named Wren who uses graphics to give people a better understanding of sizes of various things (Attack on Titan cartoon, computer memory, ants,ect). He also has one on nuclear weapons. Very good video(s) as well as informative and mostly light hearted. You should definitely check them out. Also, The Fat Electrician also has a video about soldiers who stood under a nuclear bomb to prove how safe it is. (Spoiler, all those involved lived well into their 70s). Modern weapons tend to be smaller and "cleaner" than the Cold War ones, Russian's are 100 to 900 Kilotons Problem isn't the "size" it's the NUMBER of hits, multiples, that will target certain cities, military bases etc Prime target cities like London, Washington, LA, Moscow, will be consumed by firestorms, like Dresden but on a much larger scale :(

The biggest way you can tell that it is meant to scare more than it is meant to inform is that it does not show the effects of all the weapons on the same city...so you cannot really compare them. Instead, the video shows the US weapons hitting Chinese and Russian cities, and then showing Chinese and Russian weapons hitting US cities. The ominous music is another giveaway, as is the fact that they only talk about the maximum power of the weapons while never talking much about how the weapons systems are often deployed at "less than maximum." For instance...the B-83 nuclear bomb is a "variable yield" hydrogen bomb that can explode with as much as 1.2 megatons of force, but can also have an explosive power of as little as around 5 kilotons. Also, the Trident II missile can carry several types of warheads ranging from yields as low as 5 to 7 kilotons, to warheads that yield 100 kilotons, up to the largest being the 475 kiloton type the video talks about. The British version of the missile carries up to eight 100 kiloton warheads, and when the missile is carrying those smallest 5-7kt warheads it can carry up to 14 of them. Of course, the video is only talking about the numbers the missile CAN carry, and it does not mention that the US has been limiting the Trident II to no more than 4 warheads each, due to treaty restrictions...and for many years has been sending the missile subs out with well under their full 24 missile capacity. Tsar Bomba was never a nuclear weapon that could be used...it would not fit inside the plane that carried it, and the plane that carried it only had about a 50 percent chance of surviving the blast. The Oreshnik attack looked like divine punishment from heaven. And the United States is marking time with the Minuteman missile - the main nuclear missile of the United States, created 50 years ago. We didn't come up with anything new. By the way, recently the “super” Trident-2 missile fell into the sea next to the submarine from which it was launched (training launch). The British crew of this submarine and the British high admiral were saved from death only by a miracle.
Its not the total number of nukes or their power, its the demonstarted and credible capability and willingness to respond to a nuclear first strike. The US strives to be ready, willing, and able, as safely as possible.
