    Excellent review! I just purchased the AT4040 bundle which was the same price as the microphone alone ($299). It included a black velvet dust cover with a white AT logo, a hard case (instead of soft case) with a foam insert, a metal shockmount (instead of plastic), a metal mic stand adapter, a very nice 20' XLR cable, and a very nice 6.5" pop filter.

    I'm using 2020 for 8 years, it fell down with the stand a few times but it still works great for my needs (rap and sometimes livestreaming). I'll probably get 2035 as a slight upgrade and give away 2020.

    • @RebelTech1990

      I feel it's worth the upgrade from the 2020. The price doesn't give justice to the amount of extra quality you get. They could sell the 2035 for $200 and i'd still think it was a great price for it. Thanks for checking out the video!

    AT2035 sounds like the better one for me, sounds even better than the more expensive 4040! As a matter of fact I just order one right now.

    • @RebelTech1990

      That's awesome! It is a great choice especially for the price. It really comes down to personal preference. I love the low dark presence of the AT4040, but that's less about cost and more about design. That sound doesn't necessarily mean that's why it costs so much. It's just the way they made it.
      Thanks for checking out the video! Let me know how you like the AT2035 when you get it!

    cool. recently my friend has asked me such question about the noise in her recording (with at2035 / yamaha interface/ no brand cable), so I refer this video to her and suggest that the first step to take is to replace the cable(which is the least expensive thing of the whole set).

    so agree, always thought the 2035 was well worth the 50 dollar bump over the 2020. with the right room and technique, one could make a voice over career with the 2035 all day. the 2020, not so much, but a decent utility mic i guess.

    I love the video idea and the whole comparison. Great quality content
    I can't help but notice something odd in the Untreated room test though, for some reason the AT2020 sounded better in the untreated room (?)
    Either that or the labels on the upper left were interchanged between the AT2035 and the AT2020
    Great quality review nonetheless and thank you for this fun and interesting video on the AT20 series

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I gotta admit, I noticed the same thing but I was to nervous to say anything. I felt the backlash coming lol. You are definitely right, for some reason the AT2020 does sound better in the untreated room. Also I think the way it was angled made it sound better. I say thing because the AT4040 is angles the same way and sounds good. The 2035 isn’t angled that much which could be what is effecting it.
      Thanks for checking out the video! Do you have any of these, or plan to get one?

      @@RebelTech1990 I currently have the AT2035 and I'm satisfied with it
      I usually watch these types of reviews to know which would be an upgrade for the AT2035 I have.
      It's not broken or anything its probably just gear obsession where I want to know what the end game is for me when I upgrade in the future. But tbh I'm leaning towards just learning the skill of mixing vocals right in a musical and non-musical situations
      As a singer-songwriter and producer I tend to wonder if there are mics out there that might suite my voice better since mic choice makes a difference in sound and tone of a singer. I'm just probably overthinking it though hehe

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you on that. I have some mics that I would love to own, but it's not smart to throw cash at everything I want. Obviously lol. As I am, right now I have two of my dream mics, the Shure SM7B and the Sennheiser MKH 416. If I was to add one more it would be a TLM 103. After that I'm good. I can make a good living recording audio/music with just that set up. After that it comes down to getting clients and working on my skill set.
      Now to be honest this most likely be my side gig because it's not consistent enough. The dream is to make it full time but time will tell.
      I'll be selling off some gear soon so I can invest in different gear. I don't want to sit on gear that I don't use. Maybe one day I'll have companies send me stuff, that would be nice.
      I'm always open to talking about gear so feel free to send comments about stuff that you see!

      Most people say that the 2020 sounds brighter and many people prefer that for voices. The more neutral AT2035 can sound boring. In the booth you can actually hear the superior accuracy of the other two compared to the 2020.

    Which one would you recommend for hip hop rap vocals? my room is not treated,
    l have wooden tile(Can probably buy a rug) , with a SSL2 interface
    Between Audio technica & Lewit LCT 240, which would be the best?
    and lf l were to record inside my car and treat it a bit, which mic would you recommend then?

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  ปีที่แล้ว

      For rap vocals, I’ve seen a lot of people using the AT4040.
      Cars are tricky because you get that “muffled” sound that you hear any time you record in a car. If you can treat it then that’s great but it’ll be tough to make it sound natural

    Is higher db better ? I cant really find a solid answer for this as in is the AT2035 Better with higher db or is it worse than the other 2 mics with lower db, Also does the AT2035 Distort with loud noise or yells or can it handle them? Not too loud but like if i was to sing loudly into it

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a couple of things you are referencing in this. When you say "db" you mean either the sensitivity or the Max SPL. These are two different things but work together in some ways.
      The AT2020 is the the least sensitive at -37db. Which means it needs more gain than the others which are almost the same. When it comes to the Max SPL the AT2035 has the highest. Meaning technically it can handle the most input. Now in general these numbers won't matter too much as long as you set your levels properly. The advantage to the AT2035 and the AT4040 is that they have -10db pads, which means you can input 10 more db with those switches engaged. Example if you are making a noise that is 100db, with the 2020 and the others without the switches on will allow all those 100 db in. The 2035 and the 4040 have pads that when engaged that same 100 db in, if you kept the gain the same, will now be registered as 90db. Not on the 2020 because it doesn't have a pad.
      This is a tricky topic because there is much more to it. Get the mic set naturally first. Then you adjust from there. The more you change the less of the natural ton you will get. Very minimal adjustments maker a big difference. Distortion can happen because of so many things so if you are looking to really give it to a mic then a dynamic mic will be better fit for screaming or loud sounds. These can handle a lot but you have to be careful.
      Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more help.
      Thanks for checking out the video!

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally, I think the AT4040 is great for voice over and even other types of applications. It does have a darker/lower tone, so that could be an acquired taste. If you want something more neutral, then the AT2035 would be good too. One more thing to consider is, because these are condenser microphones, they pick more range. So your room may be an issue if it has too many reflective surfaces. It’s easy to fix with some soft materials.
      Hope this helps, thanks for checking out the video!

    Which microphone would you recommend for female vocals? I am a complete "microphone newbie", so I have been doing a ton of research, but most of the reviews I find are tested on male vocals. I am considering either the 2035 or the 4040 (during the Black Friday sales). If you see this comment, thank you for your input 😊

    • @RebelTech1990

      I have a few questions.
      1) What’s your budget?
      2) What time are you looking for? (Dark, Bright, neutral)
      3) How is your recording space, acoustically?
      This will give me a good idea for recommendations

    • @HS-jh1hl
      @HS-jh1hl 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RebelTech1990 Thank you for your reply. Either mic is feasible for my budget.
      I don't really have an acoustic space set up yet, since I am a newbie. But I am serious about recording, so I do plan on setting up an area to record when I am able.
      As of the tone, this is where I am getting hung up. I don't want my voice to stray too far from it's natural tone, but I do want some warmth and not an overly bright sound. My vocal range is currently F3 - C6, so I don't want anything that will make me sound screechy, "screamy", or overly sharp at the high range. I would say my voice tone is like a cross between Zoey Deschanel and Taylor Swift's tone. Gentle and light like Taylor Swift, but vintage-like similar to Zoey Deschanel, just not quite as dark as her sound. Not that I sound like them, but it's the closest way I can describe my natural tone. I hope that makes sense enough to help with the decision, lol. I don’t know of any artists that I sound like, so sorry for the vagueness.
      I plan on recording both classical and pop. I have never owned a microphone before, so this will be my first purchase and I am hoping to get the best mic within my budget. Thank you for your help!!

      @@RebelTech1990 Now that I have been thinking about it, my biggest question is which microphone would be best for recording both high and low notes? I plan on recording low, mid, and high notes. I haven't been able to find any reviews on these microphones for high note singing for females. I know it's a hard question since you are obviously not a female singer, lol, but I was just wondering what your opinion was on this.

    • @RebelTech1990
      @RebelTech1990  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you should start out with the AT2035. It’s more neutral and can be molded in post. It’s a great first condenser mic. Now the other thing to consider is what you are using to record. Either an interface or a recorder. That’s up to you. But that is an additional cost. So I can give you some options if you want.

    • @HS-jh1hl

      From a the research that I've done it doesn't seem like it would be worth the hassle. I don't own the USB version but from what I find you would have to do some annoying downloads to get it to work with Windows 10. The good thing is that the USB mic market has some great options nowadays. What kind of stuff are you looking to make? Also what is your budget? I can try to point you in the right direction.

      @@RebelTech1990 oh I already purchased it and I'm waiting for the package to arrive. Honestly there were some people who didn't find any problems with the audio on Windows 10, so I think it relies on luck. When I have the mic in my hands I'll come back to make a review on how it works.
      My budget is 100-200 dollars, though this mic costed me, in my country, 174 dollars. Found it really suitable for singing, since I'm looking forward to do professional covers in a sense. It'll be my first mic. If you have any recommendations for mics that are the best for covers and voice-over, please go ahead 😊

    K so I own ALOT of mics from audio technica over the years…. If you were to buy 5 at4040’s they all will sound insanely different from each other, so you can buy 1 and it’ll sound like shit, and then return it buy another and it might sound good, well they are like they with the at2020 at2035, at4047, at4040, at4033, and the at4050…… it’s seriously annoying to me because I have found good ones and sold them and tried finding a good one is nearly impossible…. To me I almost given up on audio Technica for the poor quality control they have, yes all mics from other company do the same but not in such a drastic amount as audio Technicas microphones , I’ve litterally had an at4040 that sounded damn near identical to a Elam 251 and an at4040 that sounded exactly like a u87 ai but with a very very very small amount of highs added. I’ve found an at2020 that sounded better then my at4050….
