The AT2035 is very impressive especially for the price. That said, I went with the 4033 - I definitely think it sounds the best of the bunch. Thanks for this comparison vid!
Edward, when you explain about music gear , I can feel your confident and excitement . I think you can be a success music review TH-camr. God bless this guy !!!!!!!

The at4033 are much in frunt, the high are so warm if we compare to the 2020. Every frequency sounds great on it. I saw some comment tell the difference are very subtle between each. But its not. Use great monitoring headphone and you will notice a big difference. Btw thanks for the review. Very well done. Just curious to listen each mic dry
I have a pretty good ear for mixing and vocals and stuff and even on an iPhone speaker you can hear a big difference, ngl the 4033 sounds fire he best, even better than the 4040. Warner, more nuanced. And the thing is, those little details add up to A LOT because they add nuance to the dubs, ad live, vocal effects…
@@galigiriI definitely agree. The AT 4033A is a very good microphone for vocals. Would be nice to still have it but needed to sell it a few months ago.
The AT2020 and AT2035 have a smaller diaphragm capsule. It's approximately 22mm, as opposed to the 34mm in the AT4040 and AT4033. I find that my AT2035 tends to be better suited to raucous rock vocals than microphones (I've tried a few) having the larger capsule.

@@CrankCase08Then why did you leave your incorrect comment up? The AT2035's diaphragm is 50% larger than the AT2020. You misled nearly 30 people by not edting or deleting your comment.
I would say that the 4033 sounded the best, and then it goes down just like the price, 2nd 4040, 3rd 2035, 4th 2020. I wanted to go for the 2035 but now I'm thinking of saving money for the 4033. Self noise, diaphragm size, and shock mount are big differences between the AT2020 and AT2035. 20 db SPL on the 2020 is a much higher noise level compared to just 12 db SPL on the 2035 which mics that cost hundreds of dollars more seem to aim for or lower. Julian Krause for examples recommends to go for 15 or lower noise. The diaphragm is about 50% larger on the 2035 which lets you capture more detail and nuance in recordings. Haven't tested this out yet as my 2035 is on it's way but my previous mic was a 50th Anniversary Edition AT4033A and I also had an SM58 dynamic mic. The difference between the 4033A and SM58 was big in capturing the character in my voice. The 4033A won every time so it was best used for main vocals. The SM58 was great for background vocals though. The shock mount is important because it's $30 if you buy it separately (there's also a custom Audio-Technica metal pop filter that goes with it but it seems to only be sold in Asia which is unfortunate because it's such a nice filter with the logo on the front of it. $30 shipping for a $50 filter is a bit much though). Having a shock mount helps even more with extra noise you might get from vibrations in the floor, from the mic stand, and/or vibrations caused by a train or truck passing by (know from experience).
This is great! The only thing that could be added is more vocal ranges for the singing test. But I wonder about the AT2020, it sounds much more distant than the others? Any chance it doesn't do well with the pre-amp or interface? Yet the AT2035 sounds the most intimate somehow.
Hey Edward, I just want to say, the quality of your videos have improved so much since the first vid I saw from you. Keep it up man loving the content! 🙌🏽
Great comparison and I love your rendition of Angus Stone’s classic - Big Jet Plane is a personal favourite of mine. The AT2020 is fantastic bang for buck compared to anything at that price - it is soooo good that many silly people compare it to the expensive higher spec Rode NT1. I’ve also heard a lot of people comparing the AT2035 to the Rode NT1 and saying the NT1 is better. Reality check: the Rode NT1 is _not quieter_ than the Audiotechnica AT2035. The way in which Audiotechnica measures their mic’s self noise is different from how Rode measures theirs - that’s why the numbers are different in manufacturer specs although the actual self noise for both these mics is similar. Rode’s 4.5dBA is Equivalent Noise Level (A-Weighted) - which means that Rode has ‘adjusted’ the self noise number to represent the noise level as perceived by human ears - that’s what the ‘A’ means …dBA is different from dB by 4-5, depending on SPL and other factors. Audiotechnica’s 12dB SPL is measured at the higher input level the AT2035 is capable of and is not ‘weighted’ for perception by the human ear - if it had been it would be around the same dBA at the Rode’s maximum input level of 132 dB. Remember, the AT2035’s max input is about 15dB higher than that of the NT1 at 148 dB. The Audiotechnica AT2035 is superior to the Rode NT1, and besides the Rode NT series should be compared to the AT4040 anyway. Personal preferences are a different matter, but also remember that anything made in Australia is more expensive …even a cup of instant coffee 😂

honestly i think the 50 dollar gap between the 2020 and the 2035 is a really big bang for your buck. The 2020 is good but it didn't sound as full compared to the others while the 2035 did and for that i think that the extra fifty is well worth it
Not to forget 2035 comes with shockmount. With shockmount 2020 can be more expensive. Atleast it was from thomann when bought mine years ago, so I went with 2035
AT's are fantastic. I do hear a little bit more enjoyable color from the 2033 that makes it a bit better, but not sure if that's worth the price jump. The case included, though, I think its worth it.
At 2035 or the 4033 would be the better choice to pick for the performance and price. At2020 is okay and budget friendly but would recomend the at2035 as that $50 increase makes it worth it. The at4033 would be a better premium price over the 4040 and that $100 may not be worth it as the 4033 is warmer tones and voice.

You should inform your audience if this is a compensated review.. You seemed to have the vocal level gains turned up on the 4040 and 4033..yes there is likely more dynamic range but even your floor level was higher not really making a quite fair comparison. You Missed a chance to compare/comment how they do against your Rode NT1 or your other favorite, the AKG 414 that many also know, and you didn't seem to cover your impressions of that 4040 vs 4033 you said you been wanting to do.
Lol thats not even a fair comparison.. u would have to compare the p420 to the at4040 which is in the same price range. The 2035 is significantly less expensive
I have been recording in studio for 3 years now and i am building my home studio this year. I am thinking of getting At4040 or Aston Spirit. I will mostly just record rap vocals or singing vocals no instruments. What you recommend?

I'm going to buy a lewitt 441 flex, but I don't really care about omni-directionality, but I came across an at4040 and I want to find out from you what is better for recording vocals, a lewitt 441 or an at4040? my voice is similar to the voice of Eledrbrook, and I do not have the opportunity to compare these microphones live(( help pls(
I like the AT4040 more. I actually used it on one of my original songs I'm dropping on Thursday, and I could've used a much more expensive mic, but didn't. That should tell you a lot about the mic!
I'd love to get the home studio giveaway. I am willing to get more serious with music production (in terms of investment, motivation has always been there haha), but unfortunately don't have a lot of money right now. For now all I have is an average laptop and average headphones. So a home studio would definitely be a huge boost! Love from Belgium :)

AT2035
What a nice review! I’ve been watching to your microphone video reviews and its helpful for me to know what these microphone sounds like. Anyways, i am actually planning to buy the neumann tlm 102 but since i am not a professional singer and i just do it for fun ill just go with the at microphones. I am planning to get the at4040 or the at4033 What do you think will be the best for vocals and i do have a alto/low range voice? I will be using it together with the focusrite solo. Thank you
Thanks so much for watching!! My pick out of these is definitely the AT4040. I even use it on my original songs (keeping in mind, I have more expensive mics to pic from HAHA).
GOOD VOCAL BROO🎧
Thanks!
The 4040 will be the one if I'm going to upgrade my at2020
Great choice!!
Now at my regret era because i bought NT1 SS and it is very sensitive. I missed my at2035 :(( Im hoping to get the at4040 this year
@@alfonsbarcelon is rode really that sensitive, would the 4040 be better? cuz I have 2020 now and even tho it's not that bad I want to improve my recording quality. Sitting now for hours to find the best suitable microphone for me.... shure, rode, neumann, audio technica etc., have already looked up them all and hanging on at4040 now, not 100% sure if that would be the best choice. Atm not seeing any reason to upgrade my at2020 to 2035, if then I would go for 4040 or rode nt1
@@edythereal yes! I ended up having a 2 defective rode nt1 ss mics after a week. They just dont pickup a sound after a week. With my first use, its not just sensitive but the off axis collaration rejection isnt that good as well. I would rather go with audio technica.
@@alfonsbarcelon alright, thank you. So the rode is off the list for me now. Would you consider shure sm7b aswell? Or still at4040 over that?
Dude are you an angel? G r e a t video and I dig that opening 👏👏😊
Great Review Bro...
Thank you so much 🙂
thanks a lot for your examples =)
Thanks for watching!!
I like all those mics.
long time at2020usb and at2020 condenser user here. used on rap vocals primarily
switched up to the akg c214 and for years have struggled with EQuing the overly high mid hzs
im in wired airpods (one of the most important sound tests advised to me by to by maserati himself..)
and the 2035 sounds the best to me. i was advised to get the 4033a but it lacks the warmth the 2035 has
thinking of going back to my favorite microphone company
I can't tell the difference. Which there is one sure but by the time you're mixing would it even matter?
You should inform your audience if this is a compensated review.. You seemed to have the vocal level gains turned up on the 4040 and 4033..yes there is likely more dynamic range but even your floor level was higher not really making a quite fair comparison. You Missed a chance to compare/comment how they do against your Rode NT1 or your other favorite, the AKG 414 that many also know, and you didn't seem to cover your impressions of that 4040 vs 4033 you said you been wanting to do.
Please suggest me between AT 2035 and AKG P420 for singing/vocal. Please....💐💐💐💐💐
I would go for the AKG P420 👌🏻
Lol thats not even a fair comparison.. u would have to compare the p420 to the at4040 which is in the same price range. The 2035 is significantly less expensive
I just got my AT2020 mic today through Amazon fast delivery !!! 📦🎤
The At2020 and the At4033 are the best wow
A2035 for the money
I have the at4040, In terms of better..what does the at4035 have that's bettter?
I don't mind selling the at4040 and getting the at4035.
Ive got the AT2020 and have been using it for years on vocals and guitar electric and acoustic is the AT4040 better do you reckon ?
the 2020 sounded better to me than the 2035. Did you change anything?
AT2020 sounds like the Superlux E205 but in fact, AT2035 sounds fuller.
I have been recording in studio for 3 years now and i am building my home studio this year. I am thinking of getting At4040 or Aston Spirit. I will mostly just record rap vocals or singing vocals no instruments. What you recommend?
I love the AT4040! Really a great mic! I would go for the AT4040!
@@EdwardSmithMusic Is the AT4040 good for instruments ? guitar etc amps ?
man, sheesh, it’s such a hard pick with the AT 4040 and 4033… the 4040 sounds amazing in those sound tests…. now the 4050?? omggg sounds next level for sure, I really just wanna get that instead
Went with the 33 I’m officially in the pro league. At least that’s what it sounds like.
By the way was the audio of the singing test edited or was it raw?
I now want to be a musician and know more about it. 😁
Awesome!!
whats the name of the pop filter you use on the singing tests ??
Hello Edward!! At 3:49, is it actually fine to put the microphone in that foam? Or instead put the microphone inside of the given plastic & put it in that foam?
I have the AT2020, & I'm worried that maybe something will happen to my mic when I put it directly to the foam.
Foam will be fine.
I'm going to buy a lewitt 441 flex, but I don't really care about omni-directionality, but I came across an at4040 and I want to find out from you what is better for recording vocals, a lewitt 441 or an at4040?
my voice is similar to the voice of Eledrbrook, and I do not have the opportunity to compare these microphones live((
help pls(
I like the AT4040 more. I actually used it on one of my original songs I'm dropping on Thursday, and I could've used a much more expensive mic, but didn't. That should tell you a lot about the mic!
What audio interface was used?
Is the AT3525 better than the AT2020 or AT2035?
Hi Edward, Should I buy At 2035 or AKG P420?
I would go Audio Technica
I already bought an AT2050 is it better than AT2035?
The AT2050 is a great microphone 🙌🏻
Is it better than AT2035? Or did i made the wrong decision?
@@FlexaJ No, 2035 is much better
I have the 2035 and it's fantastic. Using it for Vocals and acoustic guitar
What’s your preset you used for that song??
I have the 2035 but looking to upgrade to the akg c214 you think that’s a decent upgrade?
Not really
I like AT2035
Is it good for recording group strings?
AT4033 is good for that
@@Ann-nf7mo thanks dude.. But can't afford that much... In your opinion what is the best budget microphone for recording vocals, strings and guitar?
@@kevintf2 Tonor TC20
How about a vedio about midi keyboards✌
Coming soon!
I'd love to get the home studio giveaway. I am willing to get more serious with music production (in terms of investment, motivation has always been there haha), but unfortunately don't have a lot of money right now. For now all I have is an average laptop and average headphones. So a home studio would definitely be a huge boost! Love from Belgium :)
dude... well done..
The best is AT4057
