The overblown orchestrations for the Villa D'este shoot and the ridiculously costumed model for the rather ordinary looking '61 Galaxie is hilarious. Especially when the camera and the screaming orchestra linger on the meh grill. Crazy!
Back when ads were NOT aggressive. Music, tone of voice and rate of speech. They took the time to tell you about the product instead of clobbering you with it like today.
Styleless is right, the cars of today... Just don't have the zing of the older cars and the ones from the '50,'60 and '70's have class, give me an old car any day. Love from Marysville, California
My Mom owned a Falcon back in the sixties. I think it blew a spark plug or something every day. It sounded like a train all of the time. A slow choo-choo-choo at the stoplights and then a faster choo- choo- choo sound when we would go faster. She cried all of the time because of that car. We always knew when she was getting ready to pull up in the driveway...lol
We had two Falcons. A 1960 with the 144 and stick shift on column and a 63 Futura with the 170 and the Ford o matic 2 speed auto. You are right about the sound they made....
Ford's were beautiful and had unique style back then. My high school auto shop teacher had a 1960 Starliner. This plastic junk they make now is a joke.
Imagine people on airplanes wearing a suit & tie, women wore dresses & only the men had an "Adams Apple". No "T" shirts "I'm with stupid" and no sweat pants. Men opened doors & pulled out chairs and everyone used their blinkers when changing lanes! Yes mam, no mam and thank you could be heard spoken anyone of job title or color.

We had a 62/1/2 Galaxie XL 500 loaded white with blue interior. Bucket seats, A/C, power windows, Police passenger spot light, I mean loaded with options I haven't seen in other cars. Dad drove it to a Junk yard in Geneva Switzerland because he didn't want to pay $500.00 to ship it back home. A local collector scooped it up. I hope she is still around. It was supposed to be Mine!
..16:41..Galaxie XL convertible...Galaxie XL 2 door hardtop...Galaxie 500 4 door hardtop...Galaxie 4 door sedan..Country Squire wagon..now, all they needed was a base Custom sedan with a bubble gum machine on top following them for illegal traffic maneuvers...
Had a 63 falcon was a good reliable car got good gas milage had the 6 cylinder and 3 speed on colum got good milage but back then didn't care gas was cheep, then I got a 66 Fairlane another good car, like Ford cars and trucks
Interesting...the announcer made a mistake on the 1966 Fairlane GT...announced under the hood was a 389 V8---oops! Ford offered a 289 or a 390 for the Fairlane....Pontiac had a 389.

I always wanted a car that you could send down the Colorado on a raft or take over a ski jump or run next to some ponies……….why?……..I dunno…… just a dream of mine……..
The first commercial looks like a Disney movie. And speaking of Disney, I remember the GM driving experience at Disneyland to this day. It was done well, exciting and memorable. I was very disappointed when they removed it. They may have shot the footage with a Corvette. To be fair, Ford is safe, because I'm now a Mustang guy; Saleen Mustang to be specific and I'm very happy about it. Just remember boys and girls, every manufacturer makes good and bad models, so, choose by model and not by maker. G.
The only one of these cars that the fancy dressed folks would have owned would be the T-bird. These are Cadillac, Imperial and Lincoln folks. And just wait till they see the 1961 Bird: that 60 square model would be traded in a flash.
Hey, I remember when they were new. It was the year my little brother was born. For some unknown reason I thought he would come home from the hospital in one of these cars. Never happened tho.
*I remember all of this...and have no desire at all to 'go back'* ( *Although I will say people in America were far more 'polite' to each other then...and by that I mean more willing to help other people in trouble, like car break-downs or 'thumbing a ride' or sending a kid over to mow your yard if you were ill...things like that* )
Awesome cars, and I know it was that time back then when ads were like this but while I was watching the very first ad of this clip I caught myself thinking "They're all white cis-gender heterosexual couples of the same kind of build, everybody's BMI is like 21 or something" and it just felt (for the lack of a better word) weird. Oh wait, maybe I spotted a guy walking alone around the car without a partner...but I guess single girls or single ladies in their 30's or 40's didn't drive these cars back then? Would've been kick-@ss if they did but oh well.
My mom was backing a boat on trailer on the boat ramp the brackets got wet on the ramp and she put the Galaxie in the drink, she was a water rat and bailed out the window when the car filled up, yep she kept her cool, makes me wonder how many people could pull that stunt now,
That's hilarious because my mom did the same thing in 1968 in our family car, a 1968 Mercury Colony Park 9 passenger station wagon. She was backing up the boat trailer at the ramp and went over the cement and into the water. My dad and she didn't speak for hours after their argument and got the car out.
Love that 60' Galaxie, I think you could option in the FE 352 Hi-Po, and all kinds of stuff, maybe even a MEL if you had the right connections and combined the 1960 Ford and Mercury sorse book.
Cars got better looking after 1966. Like the 1968,1969 & 1970 Dodge chargers. They had to look of Forever in style! Same with Ford Mustangs after 1968. Like the Ford 1968 mustang fastback. Chevrolet Camaroes another example. I like most car Mfgrs because they all are good and have their good and bad points. I dont get stuck on one particular brand because of a mental problem . You can find good, if you look, the and not limit your thinking
Were these ads ever aired? At 3:55 the Fairlane ad announcer mistakenly refers to the Fairlane GT engine as a "389". 289 yes, 390 yes, but 389 was a Pontiac.
I owned a Ford Falcon and it did not get 30 mpg and I crashed it because it was impossible to steer or stop easily .I have a nice little scar on my forehead to remind me everyday. (no seat belts). They did fix the car somewhat when it became the Mustang latter on.
My brother bought a '61 Falcon in the Fall of '63. Standard 101 cid inline 6 rated at a blistering 85 hp. Zero to sixty in two days down hill with a tail wind.
Dumbest commercial i ever see, car in rapid, racing horses and jumping ski slope, to prove its solidity?!!? how about a car accident, emergency braking , a roll over accident, or something that a car would do well to prove the integrity of the car?? Nice cars thought, but really stupid commercials that make no sens for a car.

The idea of these fancy people in tuxes and formal gowns gushing over a 1960 Falcon is hilarious.
None of those rich elegantly dressed people at the beginning would have owned a Falcon. Possibly a Galaxy, but for sure a Thunderbird.
How that thunderbird ever got past the rough sketch phase is beyond me.
And all the new ones are in the shop getting fixed for something

The 1964 red Ford Galaxie 500 XL convertible was the most beautiful my family used to owned a black & red.
My first car was a remarkably cherry ‘64 Ford Custom for $150.00. Black with red interior. Lost it in an accident. Maybe my favorite car in many ways.

Do you suppose Pontiac was inspired by the 1960 Ford commercial when it thought up the "Wide-Track Tigers" campaigns of 1965-66?

Great ads but the collection would have been better if you had put them in chronological order instead of randomly scattered.
