VERY well done ! I say this with 40+ years in mortgage finance & banking working with credit bureaus. Different models and parameters are used by different industries but this name below info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well
Fees aside, does the degree in which your credit score is repaired differ with the Extra Debit card compared to a secured card? And if you spent more on one versus the other, would that have an impact as well?
I would like to know this as well...what I do know about the extra card though, is that they do not report to TransUnion....yet. only Experian and Equifax
Great question. However, in order to combat that, I plan on using this extra debit card, with self credit builder( a credit building app that allows you to make deposits in order to build credit. At the end of a certain amount of payments, you can receive that money back and do it again), and a normal secured credit card simultaneously, so I will be building credit at a faster rate than normal, regardless if this debit card increases your credit score at the same rate as a secured card.
Love the video, great info. I do want to mention on the Chime Credit Builder card there is one more thing. First thing is you have the Chime acct. (as you mentioned) But secondly you also have to receive direct deposit from your employer.
I appreciate this video! I was looking at Extra recently and was just about to sign up. But, I saw there was a monthly fee. And though it's not much I don't want to get dinged for forgetting to pay yet something else and hurt my credit. I'm high 600's and trying to get to that 800 mark! Yet, with Chime it seemed I would have to jump through a few hoops. And with Tomo, if they're looking at my account and spending habits, would it be worth it? Not as if I'm sitting on 10k but not at 0 either. I don't know. Seems a little overwhelming. Still, I'll check out Chime more. I'd rather have something helping than nothing at all.

@@corsicanlulu you can with secured cards. They’ll basically take anyone that’ll make a deposit, and at least you can get ur money back instead of permaneantly giving your money away as an annual fee.

You should get a checking account at a local credit union near you, NOT a bank. They are not the same. Then, ask to apply for a line of credit or a secured credit card with them. A secured card means you have to make a deposit to have a credit card. This makes it so they can lend to you even though you have 0 credit.
I have gotten this card and have been using it and it reported one time on my credit report and then for whatever reason it was removed for no reason from my Experian report. Do you have any idea why that would happen?
I think it's a scam...I have been waiting for a month after giving them all my banking information and no card, no emails, no access to the app, can't login, im told by chat that they have to many applications and to be patient.... not lagit if they can't handle it, and that it takes longer than a week....someone in their garage I bet.
The moment subscriptions were mentioned it's an automatic no. Easily makes any credit card 100x better. If your credit card charges you 12$ a month for 1X back you're being scammed. I'd rather just use a debit card and get no benefits than pay for something others get for free.
Honestly though for people who are bad at managing credit cards you're essentially just paying $12 a month to fix your credit at an expedited rate. You never go into debt because you only spend your own money. Completely worth it if you swipe alot
@@GrimmshiOfficial There are much better alternatives. If you really need to build credit but bad at managing cards you have options like experian boost that take debit and other spending into your credit score, or just getting a secured card that way it’s your own money and you have to pay it back to pay yourself back. Regardless in most cases you should never pay an annual fee or a subscription to build credit especially if in the process you lose money. I would rather stay away from credit completely at that point
It depends. I like simplification and don't plan on using debt or credit for anything that isn't a asset but I don't feel like worrying about how much or when to pay for my credit card; I also need to build my credit so this seems like the best option for me especially because it payes it's self back the next business day
Did you forget the purpose of Extra? It's to help people who's screwed up on their credit. "Easily makes any credit card 100x better"= not true at all. If that's the case, then why take not pickup any other credit card while having a low score then? . . . You can't get a credit card if you are getting denied for too low of a score. That's kind of the point of Extra; to build up the credit score. The only reason you are getting Extra is when you have a bad score. If you have a good score, you're an idiot to go to Extra. For 12 bucks a month to rebuild your dog water of a credit score? Absolutely worth it. So don't balk at the idea of seeing a subscription, there are pros and cons with this.
Ok so say if i were to get a chime credit card accout set up whats purpose does a tommo card hold to me than does it serve a different purpose or does it complete the same objective but slightly different?

Turned 18 resently trying to build a good credit score. I got a discover it credit card recently. lookin to get another card might end up getting something like this 🤔
So if I am looking to increase my credit score before making a vehicle purchase in the next year or two so that I can qualify for a lower interest rate would it make sense to get the Extra debit card now? How much could my credit score go up in a year or so?
Chime credit builder sucks. It doesn't build your credit at all. I've had it for 2 years and it hasn't helped my credit. Don't waste your time on the chime credit builder
I am very interested in the Extra debit card. My credit score is pretty good for someone who hasn't had many credit cards. I think this could be very beneficial to boosting your credit score. If you consider the $7-$9 monthly fee it's really not bad at all. $7 divided by 4 weeks is about $1.75 a day. Most people will spend more than that on fast food let alone other unnecessary expenses. I think that if everyone looked past the monthly subscription, this could really be beneficial to a lot of people.
@@NaamWynn What would your first choice be? Have you seen anything different? I have it and I will keep everyone updated! So far it’s really nice. There was no credit check which was very important for someone like me who is trying to build their credit.
Extra is great for me cuz I can't get approved for any credit cards because I'm whats considered a "ghost" I just signed up and haven't made a purchase yet but $12 a month and I don't have to change my bank and all I have to do is use the extra card to make everyday purchases and it will build my credit
@John Doe they are new so there are some problems. Pending charges get counted twice. Like you have 200 in your account you spend $100 pending your account says you have $100 extra thinks you have zero. They lock your account as soon as a payment fails which is just annoying. But as long as you keep track and don't over spend its great and as long as you get everything straight before the end of the month you can technically borrow your spending limit. The points are good depending on what percentage cash back you get if you spend about $1,500 a month then you get the monthly fee back in points. 20,000 points is equal to $20.
@John Doe I've been using them for about 3 months now I still recommend them the customer service is pretty good works the way they're supposed to and they are fixing their problems. The way I recommended use them is know your bills get your spending Limit Up buying gas and small purchases and once you can put what ever bills you can attach to the card you can and when it gets to the last week or two of the month just don't use it to be safe if you're like me and your budget tends to be pretty tight
@@DREadful4486 and what actually gave me a credit score - 656 was getting an Xbox through Xbox all access with citizens one and that's what established my credit with Transunion and Equifax and because of that I was able to get approved for a Capital One Quicksilver credit card with a $300 limit at least I think, I might have been able to before without credit. But extra does establish credit history and count as an open account and as far as I can tell it also doesn't count as a hard inquiry on your credit so it's a good account to have to help establish that credit history that will give you an Experian credit score eventually and as long as you make sure that you're all caught up at the end of the month it shows as on-time payments which overtime will boost your credit score
@@DREadful4486 it just takes awhile to get an Experian score which is the most common that's looked into since it's more about your experience with credit and your history
Hey, I’m 18 and live in Norway. It’s really hard to get a credit card here at that age, so I was wondering if there is a alternative like these mentioned that do work for non-American citizens.
To build your credit start low, get supplies in payments, like a blender, a toaster ect. Pay it monthly and you will build credit. Then you will be ready to apply for a credit card.
Extra automatically pays itself next day if you make a transaction. Your credit utilization resets every 24 hours which automatically helps you keep utilization low
You are repaying the money for purchases within 24 hours, so your utilization resets every 24 hours. You won't have that problem, because your balance is automatically paid off immediately. I presume the status on your credit report each month would state something like "paid on time as agreed." You can't have a high utilization with this card, because it's going to be zero at the end of the month.
Extra depresses me... It's EXACTLY what I'm needing for a particular thing, a Debit Card and helps build credit without having to "secure" the money you can't touch etc. like all the others in various ways and/or being credit cards. I wish they would offer a "FREE" version, I don't care if they sell my data, when we do anything on the Internet for free that's already happening, one more company doing it isn't going to matter. I've looked at like a DOZEN cards... this is absolutely a NICHE someone needs to create.

@@corsicanlulu you can with secured cards. They’ll basically take anyone that’ll make a deposit, and at least you can get ur money back instead of permaneantly giving your money away as an annual fee.
@@xYasago I got denied a couple cards like capital one and discover. I don’t have a bad score either🤷🏽♀️ might try this card out
Dose this really work or is it a scam Beacues I am 19 with 0 credit and I applied to 4 -5 banks and all of them dint take me beacues I have to credit so I am trying to get started with building my credit I don’t want no scam should I really use this card to help build my credit
You should get a checking account at a local credit union near you, NOT a bank. They are not the same.
Then, ask to apply for a line of credit or a secured credit card with them.
A secured card means you have to make a deposit to have a credit card. This makes it so they can lend to you even though you have 0 credit.
Can you use the card with (1) Apple wallet (2) at an ATM and lastly while l living in Mexico 6 months out of the year. I am a U.S. citizen.
So I can sign up and get the card with any bank account no specific bank to get the card? Sorry I'm kinda new to uhh life lol
@@MXALOVE not if u have really bad credit
If that's the case, then why take not pickup any other credit card while having a low score then?

Can you cancel the card at anytime
Bought the year subscription and within three months my score is at 741
What was the score before you started? 🧐
extra is ran by the same people as "down to shop" that scammed a bunch of people a few years back
Chime credit builder you'll have to be a member for a years before eligible for credit builder account. So who wants to wait a year!
Chime requires direct deposit for the credit builder feature. No good for anyone self employed
I don't know about anyone else but I want the debit card because it's sleek and aesthetically pleasing. I really like the design!
Me too
It’s actually not that “aesthetically” pleasing. My Apple Card feels and look better….

Ok so say if i were to get a chime credit card accout set up whats purpose does a tommo card hold to me than does it serve a different purpose or does it complete the same objective but slightly different?
So when this card reports to the credit bureaus, I will see an increase in credit on Credit Karma?
Thanks for the info, Sergeant!
Thank you very helpful.
@Naam Wynn can you use this card to invest on M1, self, kovo and other investment accounts?
Hey what about a comparison with Cred-AI unicorn card.
I applied 2 months ago and I realized today and it keeps saying apologies after I've linked my bank account after I put my social security and my email and I just don't get why
Update?
I exited when it wanted my login credentials to my bank. No.
It’s now $25 a month for credit building and rewards and $20 a month for credit building :/
Oof its now $20 or $25 a month now to use 😬, i was getting excited to try using this to build credit until i saw that, $8 a month made sense for me but $25 is kinda ridiculous
Is it only for personal, or could it be used to business account? Thx
Its for mostly for personal use, but you can use it only for business use too, but it only builds personal credit.
So you don't have to stay with in a percentage of how much you spend? If I had $4000 a month and spend $3500 a month would it affect my credit badly?
It doesn't work. They are just tradeline... you may as well ask your mom if she can add you as authorized user on her card.
Is this a good option to start credit? I’m 20 n never had credit before, never been taught bout it frfr. I’m currently looking into it
Turned 18 resently trying to build a good credit score. I got a discover it credit card recently. lookin to get another card might end up getting something like this 🤔
Thank you for the honest review
I wander if you can link oxygen to extra to get the benefits.
If it reported to all three of the major bureaus I’d definitely say yes
This is incredibly helpful, thank you!
It can be. It just would not be my first choice, but extra is not too bad of a credit builder
@@NaamWynn What would your first choice be? Have you seen anything different? I have it and I will keep everyone updated! So far it’s really nice. There was no credit check which was very important for someone like me who is trying to build their credit.
@@NaamWynn heyyy I had a couple questions for this if u can help me out with it I just bought it today but I’m still kinda new to it

I have a debit card with BAC. How is this an improvement over my BAC debit card?
Key difference is one builds credit.
If I cancel my Extra membership after a significant time of usage, will it negatively effect my credit score even though it isn’t a credit card?
@@aryehakujin4374 has it helped your credit jump up much
@@DREadful4486 and what actually gave me a credit score - 656 was getting an Xbox through Xbox all access with citizens one and that's what established my credit with Transunion and Equifax and because of that I was able to get approved for a Capital One Quicksilver credit card with a $300 limit at least I think, I might have been able to before without credit.
He mentioned the extra card can use itin or ssn
what about credit utilization though?, if that's get reported as well, then it might not be a good choice
Hmmmm great point
Extra automatically pays itself next day if you make a transaction. Your credit utilization resets every 24 hours which automatically helps you keep utilization low
@@Mariah_678 thank you
@@modafalla Anytime
It's sounds great but I don't like that it needs my bank username and password, what happens if my info leaked, then I'm losing my money.
Plaid is a third party that is used by most major banks
Is there a minimum that you have to spend per month?
So my question is do you have to say under 10% of your spending limit on the extra card like how you would with a credit card ?
You are repaying the money for purchases within 24 hours, so your utilization resets every 24 hours. You won't have that problem, because your balance is automatically paid off immediately. I presume the status on your credit report each month would state something like "paid on time as agreed." You can't have a high utilization with this card, because it's going to be zero at the end of the month.
Thx for the info!!!
Thanks for this
Whats the limit they report to the credit bureaus? Do they really report a 1500 limit to your credit card category?
Extra depresses me... It's EXACTLY what I'm needing for a particular thing, a Debit Card and helps build credit without having to "secure" the money you can't touch etc. like all the others in various ways and/or being credit cards. I wish they would offer a "FREE" version, I don't care if they sell my data, when we do anything on the Internet for free that's already happening, one more company doing it isn't going to matter. I've looked at like a DOZEN cards... this is absolutely a NICHE someone needs to create.
Is my pin the same as regular debit card
Best financial tool review video I've seen in a while.
Why don't they just charge $0.25 for every $5 purchase like a normal debit card or credit card
Is this a good card for an 18 year old starting out trying to build credit?

It’s hard to have a late payment with extra since your limit is based your banking balance. And they automatic pay themselves back
Weird question: What if I use the Extra Card to pay a bill, would that be valid to do so? Would that also raise up my credit score?
I think any transaction should count as long you’re paying the $12 membership because he did say the $12 membership doesn’t have limits on which transactions are reported to the credit bureau
