E28 M5 Front EURO Bumper Conversion / BMW swap

  • It's safe to say that most E28 enthusiasts agree the European spec bumpers are vastly superior to the unsightly 5mph crash bumpers North America had to endure. The US spec bumpers don’t match the car's body lines and were clearly an afterthought. In contrast, the Euro-spec bumpers dramatically enhance the car's aesthetics. That’s why, when we began restoring this BMW E28 M5, we prioritized procuring and installing a set of European bumpers.
Unfortunately, I completed this bumper swap before creating this channel, so I couldn't document the conversion in the detail I would have liked. However, I’ve put together this video outlining the steps and processes I used for the conversion. I opted for aftermarket front bumper mounts instead of converting the front Euro frame horns, but I took the time to reinforce them. This might seem like overkill to some, but I couldn’t leave them as they were. In a later video, you’ll see how this decision works in my favor-sometimes, you get lucky!
Let me know your thoughts on my changes to the front bumper mounts. Was it a good idea? Or was it complete overkill and unnecessary?
If you frequent this channel, you might notice some differences in the shop. Truth be told, this is another video from the vault, filmed and edited a few years back.
Thanks for the support. I hope you enjoy the video. Please remember to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE to the channel and turn on notifications so you don’t miss the next chapter in this E28 M5 restoration.

🏎️ I spent nearly 10 years working in various BMW dealerships as a Master Technician. After a move back home to the PNW I found myself no longer servicing German-made machines, but now working with Italians. I spent nearly another 10 years as a Ferrari Master Technician, & Shop Foreman at a local Ferrari dealership.
🏆 I was selected by Ferrari as one of 12 technicians worldwide to compete in the “Ferrari Testa Rossa Awards”, consecutively for 4 years in a row. Finishing in 3rd place in 2016, & in 2019 I was able to place in 1st. Winning the competition & earning the title of the Top Ferrari Technician in the world!
🚀 As my time with Ferrari came to an end, a new career path awaited me…. Aerospace. I am currently working at Blue Origin, helping to build & develop the BE-3PM and BE-U rocket engines.
With my new career path, I needed an outlet for my automotive passion, thus the reason for this channel…

What do you think of my approach to mounting the front bumper? Do you think the extra bracing and supports were a necessary addition to the aftermarket brackets, or should I have swapped over to the front Euro frame horns instead?

Neat set up for the mounts to strengthen them. The front European lip is a must have, in my opinion. Pricey, but worth it!
