Wow!!! What an 'adventure'!!! So glad to see the actual flight was so good and make the ordeal a little bit better. I've considered flying LATAM from Melbourne to BsAs, because I'm a tango dancer and as dancers, we all want to visit Buenos Aires once!! Your video makes for some pause LOL. The person who asked "what makes you so special?" would have really been the last straw for me. What a rude response. I was once flying from Buenos Aires to New York JFK via Santiago with LATAM, and it was a huge debacle. They cancelled our tickets (maybe oversold the flight) and then didn't believe that Australians could travel to the USA with only an eVisa, no need for one in our passports. Once we finally convinced them we didn't beed a paper visa (this took over an hour), they then broke it to us that we were now on a flight with TAP, transiting in São Paulo, and it was leaving in 30 minutes (we were still at the check-in desks!) so we were so lucky we were actually at the airport long before our booked flight. We had to be rushed through security and straight onto the plane.I am usually the last person to complain and very easy-going, but I became a huge Karen at that moment, and I'm a dude.
Your experience just gave me traumatic flashbacks. LATAM is really a piece of work, aren't they? Because they're so huge in South America, they are frequently the only choice. So they don't really give a toss.
I've flown with them in economy between Akl and Syd many times. Usually the cheapest and pretty much everything was complimentary including meals, movies, some alcohol and 30kgs of luggage. Air NZ for example makes you pay extra for everything.
In fairness to LATAM they aren’t the only ones who don’t have airline reps in AKL and require approval from HQ. Qantas is the exact same way in AKL. Flew them back to Sydney from AKL and they needed to contract QF HQ by phone to reissue a ticket that got upgraded. I easily spent half an hour at check in getting that sorted. And remember Australia is just a stone’s throw away. Heck for many it is a domestic flight
There are MANY airlines who don't have a rep, of course. If that works like clockwork, then it's fine. But LATAM and Swissport obviously don't. Waiting over 2hr for our boarding passes was just a bit much.
Was so sorry to view all that happened with the previous days cancelled flight & the subsequent frustration with lack of any assistance. This should be viewed by all in charge at LATAM in how NOT to take their customers frustration for granted & learn from it. I for one will never travel with LATAM in the future even though u might have the pleasure of travelling in their new aircraft. That proposed charge to get a seat number assigned is absurd. Great videos showing the frustration by you & your fellow travellers. Safe travels Ryan!
Wow what an ordeal you had coming over from Auckland to Syd. So glad you finally made it in the end. Apologies for having to cancel out meet up in Sydney but suppose it kinda worked out in the end as you didn’t arrive the day we planned.
Latam changed to a new ground handler called Swissport a year or so ago, and Swissport, relatively new to Auckland at the time, and completely understaffed, struggled to handle situations - unfortunate for you. This was likely finance decision on behave of Latam. Since then, Swissport has somewhat improved at Auckland and now handles 4 international airlines, including Delta
Yes this was an absolute nightmare. Part 1 of this video was when I covered a lot more of what Swissport in AKL was doing. Just hope I won't have to deal with either one of them again. Cheers...!
Great video! Cold cuts were usually served in pm flights by LATAM (in their old 5th freedom FRA-MAD). Too bad you missed on Juan Valdez coffee! Thanks for such detailed review
What a nightmare for you, Ryan. I travel through Auckland airport every month and have found most of the (international) security and customs staff fine, and friendlier than those outbound at Sydney. The tone used by some at SYD has been downright rude, barking at passengers ("Belt! Belt! Go back!") or doing their best to be unhelpful when a passenger asked how to retrieve an item left behind at security. Of course, not all are like that, but those who are do stand out. It has been years since I travelled on Latam across the ditch (for good reason); back then the business class meal was a toasted sandwich. Occasionally, I fly between BNE and AKL. I find China Airlines with their A350 on that route has superb service and reasonable pricing.
Thanks for your response. To be fair, it was only that ONE staff who looked like she got up on the wrong side of her bed. The day before when I went through for the cancelled flight, staff were ok. We still had the option of a toasted sandwich on this LATAM flight, not my thing though. Hehe... As you saw. Guess what? I flew BNE AKL with CAL on this trip and it'll be part of the video series. Yes, they are excellent. Hope you'll stay tuned to that one. Cheers
Oh no. LAN was always a nightmare with delays etc into AKL. I’m sure they had a station manager there that we would talk to before I left QF in 2013. I know we had a direct contact in SCL that we talked to. Hope you’re well and looking forward to the rest of the uploads. Maurice.
Howdy Maurice. I agree with you about LA having a rep in AKL. Because that's how airlines usually operate. When I worked with SQ, I had a glimpse into how much responsibility a station manager had. He looked after everything, literally. From passenger well being, ATC slots, right down to the quality of in-flight catering. So my jaws dropped when Swissport let slip they were managing the cancellation with LA based in Santiago.
You make a good point, in that the onboard crew make all the difference to the experience. Your delays and poor ground service were a total shitshow, but your video makes a powerful diary. I’ve now subscribed!
"Did you know Auckland had terrible floods on january 2023?" Me, who had mu flight from Santiago to Auckland that very day canceled due to the flood: yeah. yeah, i am aware.
My worst delay was with Scoot earlier this year when I had a late night flight from Singapore to Tullamarine. Due to faults with the plane's air conditioning, we were trapped in the airport for six hours(basically overnight). However, being Singapore, they were swift in their responses and provided a free snack pack to all passengers. Your incident clearly pales in comparison to what I had experienced...
Unfortunately, such poor customer service is common these days. Companies think they can cut costs everywhere and it damages customer service. Trying to run business communications, with time-critical business decisions, using WhatsApp is ludicrous.
@@randyviper388 I've linked part 1 of this video beneath... th-cam.com/video/okry6gc3lVw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ytdYIO1wsowBYksc The aircraft went tech and got grounded, that's why we all got stranded. Some of us (like me) volunteered to stay the night, while others scrambled to get on the remaining seats of departing QF and Air NZ flights the day before.
Latam once you actually get on the plane is very good. I spent 14 hours in Santiago Latam lounge to get to Bogota. Delays after delays. My wife waited 6 months to get her bags back from Swissport in Auckland the Santiago akl part of the wait took two months. Latam in NZ are hard to talk to.
Flying Is such a lottery sometime isn't it. I just did LA800 to Auk and like your onboard experience, it was fantastic. And booked with QF points for a cabin that beats a 737 hands down was a bargain. Not to worry mate, considering how much you fly the odds are still in your favour. xx
Yes I wholly agree with you about the inflight service. The stranded passengers actually shared with me how horrible their service was on the SCL AKL leg with crew who couldn't care less. And that flight left 2 hours late. So maybe we all caught LATAM on a really bad day. I don't know... It's that lack of support when things go wrong which really irked me. Thanks for watching!
Ryan the hard product looked exceptional, im not going to lie, but clearly the running of the airline is of main concern. If you can afford to hang around for 24 hours it's ok, and you did it because you had a story to tell on your channel, but these are the things that can spoil a trip. I said before took Latam to South America back in 2016 and they were really good although a layover for quite a few hours in Santiago airport is not for those who like to have something to do. im off in two weeks not flying Latam but now I'm worried about my connections lol! But Ryan - always wonderful entertaining content from you!
Sorry, did you say you're flying LATAM soon? Hahahaha.... Well well well my video came at the right time then! Look when things go right, it is actually a great product.
@@ryansofly haha no not LATAM. I'm flying... well Qantas for one, but four different airline all up, three of them different budget Asian carriers. you can probably guess but they'll be online in the new year. One is purported to have the most seats in an A330 of any airline in the world!
Sorry this happened to you, I had a flight booked last year to attend Mr Brightside (The Killers) on Air New Zealand; it got cancelled because of a faulty intercom. Absolutely sucks. Then my friend told me he had one of the best weekends ever to add salt to the wound. My flight was domestic but I feel your pain on cancelled flights especially when you really want to go to that destination.
I hope Air NZ handled your refund quickly! I heard horror stories. Yeah, nothing worse than having an airline stuff up your plans. But safety first yeah?
I'm going to speculate all the people from the day before were placed on stand by without you knowing. There was probably more than enough seats in Economy for them to be confirmed immediately without LA's head office approval, but Business class, they probably waited for the opportunity for the last passenger to check in and I'd say the computer wasn't automatically lifting your wait-list status and the airport staff have a strict 'don't think for yourself' policy. A bizarre experience for you I'm sure.
@@ryansofly wow, well there you go. You'd think they'd treat day before as priority and not the other way around. If you were on standby, I love they made up they "can't find your booking". G'day mate. Sad you had a stressing time with that airline then getting spoken to in a terrible way from airporrt staff. At least the flight home was good. I would like my wife to win that pouch as shes never had something like that from the flights we have taken in the past. We are planning a return trip to the Philippines via Singapore next year and it would be a handy item for her. Great report. Thanks.
Ryan, all that run around for a nice airline seat, an omelette and a cup of tea . I live in Adelaide and know the recipe for tea and omelette. I can treat you for free.
Had a terrible exp with LATAM this summer. They made me miss my connecting international flight, with numerous screw ups. I wrote a huge complaint letter. Never heard a response from them. Then one day I looked at my credit card and they credited me 1600.00 for the whole flight. It's pays to complain
When us fellow stranded travelers began to exchange our travel stories with LATAM at the hotel bar, man I felt as if I shouldn't complain much because everyone else's stories were far more horrific compared to mine. Because mostly everyone else started their journey with LATAM with delays, cock ups and cancellations elsewhere in South America before they even got to Santiago. I'm not in a hurry to return. Hope you've watched part 1, where the nightmare unfolded. Cheers and thanks for popping by! th-cam.com/video/okry6gc3lVw/w-d-xo.html
I was thinking to choose them to fly to Brazil from sydney. Their ticket price is much more affordable compared to other airlines. Wondering if we should take the risk 😂
Omg that security woman! And no explanations of why they kept you there for another 2.5 hrs before you got a boarding pass. How? No remorse at all. Seriously. You’re so right that the experience with an airline starts long before you board. I would like to win the amenities kit because it’s the closest I’ll ever come to flying with them! 😂 (I just started following you on IG under the name Boujee Boozy Scoops- I think I’m also your 1000th follower! 🎉)

@@ryansofly thank you kindly. Oh I meant how as in a rhetoric question because in a customer service job it’s just not good enough to do that to passengers let alone for two days in a row. It’s just so woefully inadequate. And who uses WhatsApp to run a business? 😂
@@rachkate76 oh well, at least it made for some great content for 2 episodes. I literally did a fist bump in the air when the flight got cancelled! Hahaha...
Sad to see this airlines has gone downhill. Been to South America several times before the pandemic, and flew LATAM (since it was still called LAN) quite often (9 times during my last trip in 2017). Never had problems except for the frequent delays (although never more than an hour). The on flight service was always good.
Hi Ryan, Wow what an ordeal, I don't think I will ever choose LATAM to come down to NZ, not after what I'm hearing, the lack of an ASM in AKL plus the Swiss port dilemma and security staff dilemma, speaking of the security staff, if you have a banner that says specifically "if your flight is leaving soon, let us know" I do not think she should have acted that way, where's the Customer Service? I can understand she is a security personnel or whatever but there are better ways to talk to a customer/passenger, honestly I would have sent a complaint to the airport aviation authority.I have worked for immigration in my country for 4 years before my current employment with the airline sector and frankly I have never raised my voice with a passenger and the same can be said for the other immigration staff at SEZ Airport. Going back on topic of LATAM, I would rather fly Air NZ, or Emirates Airlines in that case. I know Emirates has an ASM in AKL, I have great experience flying with them and what's more you get an A380, what more can you want and the Business class product is amongst one of the very best in the Sky. Can't go wrong with EK.
Thanks for your response. If you think this is bad, you should go and watch Part 1. That's where the whole experience started. My heart really goes out to the employees of Swissport. They work for very little money and lots of stress so am not surprised this turned out the way it did in a crisis. th-cam.com/video/okry6gc3lVw/w-d-xo.html
I used to fly LAN on this route for many years. Was cheapest Business Class and I got One World points as well, went towards my Qantas Platinum. LAN and LATAM are great when in the air but really after 6 cancellations etc you realise they are amongst the worst airline in the world to manage disruptions, funny considering how much practice they must have. I gave up especially as they left Oneworld and they are just not worth the effort so much so I would rather take a Qantas 737 over a LATAM 787 on this sector.
You'd still get QF points and status credits even though they're no longer in one world, as long as QF continues to be a partner. Yeah, but I am not in a hurry to return.
do you remember LAN being as unreliable as LATAM? it was our flag carrier and ever since it merged with the brazilian airline, our perception is things have deteriorated and gotten worse and worse. we remember LAN as a nice airline, LATAM is disappointing
After cancelling the flight the day prior, did LATAM offer to put you on another flight? If so, why didn't you take it? Was it for the purpose of reviewing LATAM? I am flying with them later this month. I just checked SYD-AKL for LA800 and in the last 90 days there hasn't been a cancellation .... fingers crossed ;)
The agents were taking so long to rebook passengers onto alternate flights, thought I'd do them a favour and asked to be put on LA801 the next day. Thinking I'd be sorted ASAP and sent off to the hotel. How wrong was I! Plus, the purpose of this trip was to fly LATAM. That's why I was insistent on getting onto LA801.
This used to be the Chilean flag carrier, not under that name but as LAN. It then sadly merged with a Brazilian airline, which can’t be something good, and has subsequently been in economical troubles since. It’s now partially owned by an American airline, which is probably for worse
The "Brazilian airline" you mentioned was TAM Airlines which I flown many many times with and had great experiences every single time. LATAM really does suck, though.
@@ryansoflyabsolutely; Lan was a reaaaally good airline back in the day befote the merge with TAM. I was even a shareholder of LAN, after the merge those shares lost like 90% their value. Such a sad story for what once was my no. 1 choice to get out of SCL
I agree this airline sucks. I was delayed from JFK - GRU for 6 hours. And I was connecting from GRH - GIG. I missed my connection and they rebooted me 6 hours later. A total nightmare. NEVER EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE. There is so much more to my story but it’s to much to type.
Im from Brazil I call it Satán Airlines. Some people here call it Latão which means big old piece of can. Its an overpriced low cost service airline. We have 3 major airlines monopoly around here, not much choice.
Have to agree on NZ Security/Immigration/Customs….very poor. On the few times I’ve been through, there’s always been issues. Last time they confiscated duty-free brand new, sealed and docketed expensive scotch we’d bought. No doubt someone scored some premium free scotch and it wasn’t us!! I had to claim reimbursement back in Australia. Yes, they don’t get my vote. Unhelpful and unfriendly. Good video though, but we won’t be flying LATAM as we’re looking to book flights now for an upcoming trip to Europe and the Americas.
Congratulations on surviving. What a mess. Someone needs to send this video to the relevant people at Latam, Avsec (NZ's TSA) and Auckland Airport. I don't know why Avsec are so rude. Give people a uniform and they go crazy!
I had a less than average bc flight from SYD-BGT in 2022. Purser was seen once and all crew went awol except for meals. I had to ask for water a few times and also help to get out of my seat as I have short legs and the person in the aisle seat was asleep. They weren’t too impressed with either request 😢😢
The stranded passengers from the previous LA801 flight from SCL AKL reported the same type of crew behaviour as yours. Which is why most of them chose to fly QANTAS the second day.
So sorry you had to experience such poor Customer Service, definitely not the type of service anyone should be exposed too. Sorry from the rest of us amazing Kiwi's
I mean it feels like everytime I fly there are some issues. Never reeeeally on time. Btw - would it not be nice to be able to order McDonalds on an airplane flight... Hmmm
I was very interested in your review until you started mocking the New Zealand accent & profiling people with your haka comment, just uncalled-for. How can you be taken seriously when your reaction to something so minimal and expected in that situation comes across as childish & unnecessary.
Swissport has gained a very bad reputation in many countries in regards to airline handling. Their activities at Sydney airport leave a lot to be desired.
These contractors work for very little money and no airline benefits. That's unfortunately the way forward as airlines look to trim costs to boost profits. Which is what QANTAS has done over the last 15 years. Contract the work out to as many external vendors as possible. And this is the result.
@@kiwiryker take a chill pill mate. AKL security staff are known to be arseholes. And they've proven right to me time and time again. I'm not one to be picking fights with front line staff because I was brought up to respect people. Clearly the staff there haven't been coached right.
Thanks for the video. After seeing this I’d never fly Latam. This is exactly the kind of experience I want see from aviation TH-camrs. Because I want to avoid the hassles.
Horrendous airport experience, not just from LATAM. I was considering using them next year GRU to SYD however your report of cancellations from Brasil in addition to your experience in N.Z. has taken this airline off my list. In their defence I’ve used LATAM internally in Brasil and never had a cancellation but long haul could be a different story.
Have a feeling we must've caught LATAM on a bad day. The stranded passengers joined LA801 in SLC from various LA flights originating in Brazil, Argentina, Peru... And all spoke of delays / cancellations from their first airport. LA801 left SCL 2 hours late, and then got cancelled in AKL. So you can imagine their frustrations with the airline.
Suspicious airlines make great content, don't you think? I was expecting drama, but really got more than what I bargained for. 🤣🤣🤣 Be careful what you wish for because it just might come true. Lol!
@@cheryll8008 I wasn't too worried because I was stuck in Auckland, not Timbuktu. No matter what happens, there are always flights back to OZ. Which is why I so willingly volunteered to be offloaded and stay overnight in part 1.
Hey Ryan, if @WORMGERM is a Kiwi, I do sincerely apologise. Overtime a lot of us Kiwis have become overly sensitive and incredibly soft. The humour has disintegrated. Love your attempt at the accent 🤣
Unfortunately Latam it’s terrible, poor quality service and total disrespect for the customers. I’m not talking about the airplanes, if you have money you can buy. The service in land it’s awful . I took a flight London to Sao Paulo and back and was the a nightmare, delays in flights, no information, no support and finally they lost my luggage that I received in the next day but my luggage was destroyed. After weeks, I’m still waiting for a refund…. I do t think so I will receive.
Indeed... There is a part 1 to this which is linked below. I had a chat with other fellow passengers who had also ensured not just this cancellation, but also delays and cancellations from their journey which began in S America, and into Santiago. It's pretty incredible how disorganised this airline is. Which is a shame, because the inflight service was phenomenal. th-cam.com/video/okry6gc3lVw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cDLP-w-tDtHqFTDU
I would have booked a simple econ flight out and have this LATAM crap refunded from your credit card. You wasted two full days of your life for frankly nothing. That's sad. And LATAM deserve a charge back from Visa/Mastercard.
Let's just say it was done for the sake of content creation. A LATAM flight review was always the plan for this travel series, which is why I was insistent on getting on LATAM, even if it's 24hr later. This was a showcase of crisis management gone haywire. Plus I wasn't in a rush to get home, so it all worked out in the end.
Your (understandably) frustrated commentary about the security line in Auckland does boarder racist with attempts a mocking our accent. Additionally, tarring the entire population of NZ with the same brush from the actions of one person is unreasonable and shows poor perception from you. If I was to say every Singaporean is a whiney sanctimonious nobody who creates mediocre flight reviews - it wouldn't be fair nor representative of the entire population. Best wishes.

So my jaws dropped when Swissport let slip they were managing the cancellation with LA based in Santiago.
@@ryansofly when did u work for SQ?
@@kenexx I was a tech crew trainee way back in the early 2000s.
You make a good point, in that the onboard crew make all the difference to the experience. Your delays and poor ground service were a total shitshow, but your video makes a powerful diary. I’ve now subscribed!
Thanks for your support, as always. Too kind.
"Did you know Auckland had terrible floods on january 2023?" Me, who had mu flight from Santiago to Auckland that very day canceled due to the flood: yeah. yeah, i am aware.
Oh no...
Oh no...
I loved your videos 😊
Well, thanks for popping by!
Unfortunately, such poor customer service is common these days. Companies think they can cut costs everywhere and it damages customer service. Trying to run business communications, with time-critical business decisions, using WhatsApp is ludicrous.
WhatsApp is free, suppose that's their cost saving measure. But it was painful just waiting and not knowing.
What was the reason of cancellation? Why didnt qantas flights going on the day of the cancellation? Full flights?

The aircraft went tech and got grounded, that's why we all got stranded.
OMFG... That's horrible! Looks like a lot of people have a LATAM story to share!
Thanks for watching!
thats crazy! they should be able to search your eticket or add it manually if you got emailed it, and no airline reps in Auckland?
I thought the same, surely they could locate the booking since THEY WERE THE ONES who emailed me. So who knows?
@@ryansofly yeah i work at check in and depending on the system they use we can add an eticket number and it searches it and links it to the passenger
I had a terrible experience at Auckland airport. Only my opinion, the airport staff aren't as efficient and helpful as they should be.
Nope, that's a very apt observation. Our airports in this part of the world are pretty woeful.
Latam is Amazing ❤🇧🇷👏🏽🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Agree... Inflight they're amazing. On the ground though.... Total opposite.
As bizarre as that sounds, it actually makes total sense. Economy class was half full, while business went out with no empty seats.
@@ryansofly wow, well there you go. You'd think they'd treat day before as priority and not the other way around. If you were on standby, I love they made up they "can't find your booking".
Sad to see this airlines has gone downhill. Been to South America several times before the pandemic, and flew LATAM (since it was still called LAN) quite often (9 times during my last trip in 2017). Never had problems except for the frequent delays (although never more than an hour). The on flight service was always good.
Lan (Chile) + Tam (Brazil) = LATAM
To be fair, the inflight product isn't too bad. Just that when things go wrong, this airline doesn't handle is well.
Yeah, sadly.... From the respondents in this video, not many have a good thing to say about LATAM.
The "Brazilian airline" you mentioned was TAM Airlines which I flown many many times with and had great experiences every single time. LATAM really does suck, though.
yes i know that's what you get when you deal with brazillians @@franz_fazb

I agree this airline sucks. I was delayed from JFK - GRU for 6 hours. And I was connecting from GRH - GIG. I missed my connection and they rebooted me 6 hours later. A total nightmare. NEVER EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE. There is so much more to my story but it’s to much to type.

It wasn't even a uniform, more like a polo t shirt in a dry fit material. 🤣
