A pentaholic looked it up and yes there was a bump in the birth rate. LOL. It was an incredibly rendition of that song. Scott killed it. I knew you’d love it. I rushed to view this. Awesome
*rubs hands together…getting so close to 12, which is my favorite. They destroyed the competition that night - and there were great groups. I remember turning to my BFF and just saying WTF! It was incredible then, it is incredible now. I knew you would love it and you would kill that look too!
Oh, I was waiting for you to get to this one and your reaction did not disappoint! You had “stank face” from the first note of Mitch’s wa wa’s, and your reaction to Scott going full-out was so much fun to watch!
I love when Avi starts playing air bass. This one, Born to Be Wild and Video Killed the Radio Star are my favorites. The guy with his hands up was with the Dartmouth Aires, the second best group of the season. Their Queen medley was insane and one of their singers, Michael O. was Pentatonix quality.
That was the Dartmouth Aires problem. Michael was the star the rest of them were just his backup singers. Looking at the other seasons as well the winning groups were always 5 or 6 men and Kirstie was the only girl to win ever. People seemed to have been stuck in the barbershop mode. One of Avi's former acappella groups, Fermata Nowhere (that he won the first Best Rhythm Section at the International Championship of Collegiate ACappella changed to award it to him as a verbal bass) does a funny amateur skit about the competitiveness for barbershop quartets. The video is under the 12 Days of Christmas Fermata Nowhere.
I love that their risky approach with this was to strip it back and not go crazy. You know you've got a reputation for going wild in a song when the wildest thing you can do is keep it simple & tight. My fave part was Avi in the back playing air-bass guitar & I love that they utilise Mitch's wa-waa skills in later songs of theirs (like can't sleep love), of course it's only a fraction of what we know he can do as evidenced by Bohemian Rhapsody. One of my fave Scott performances, but it's so interesting to hear this right after the Jolene part and hear how his voice has matured. We often focus on how Mitch really came into his own after the competition (from Dog Days are Over, really), but it's easy to miss how much Scott haw developed his voice too. They're all so fantastic back then, but they're incredible now. In a way the record company did them a favour dropping them right after because I think it made them more determined, and work harder to get it; they really put work into their voices and you can tell. I also think that with the record label dropping them, by them utilising TH-cam in those early days it kept them relevant, where often you other TV competition winners fade into obscurity after the one or two contracted albums or whatever. YT gave them a place for fans to go, and to spread the interest. Of course, setting aside that's how they found Kevin in the first place. I think keeping themselves accessible using TH-cam has played a big part in their growth, especially with the lack of radio play they get...I stumbled across them by accident just before Scott & Mitch were putting out the Superfruit album (iirc I found Superfruit first), I hadn't heard of PTX before that.
Ok, so that isn't a genre that I am ever going to care deeply about, but man, did they do an impressive job of _nailing_ the characteristics of the genre, using only human voices.
I like dog days and video killed the radio star. I think I like video killed the radio star so much because it was the moment when you just knew there was something different about them.
Great reaction. That’s my favorite from the Sing Off and one of Scott’s best performances ever. I loved how he gave such a controlled and soulful performance, then stood there with an “aw shucks” grin during the judges’ comments.
I feel this the performance where they won. And I am happy you saw that guy on the other group with his hands to his head. He must have been thinking, "Oh, we're playing for second place now, huh?"
It's funny how Kevin always appeared to be sooo veeery modest (he is! Don't get me wrong!)but then I've never seen any other beatboxer, beatboxing... sensually xD (also, this season's all-groups Halloween performance and his body rolls and the "where is pentatonix" game in the comment section 😂💚)
OMG, I loved your face as you were watching this!! Yeah, it was amazing! Kirstin's exhilarated face as she turned away from their group hug was everything!
I remember watching this and absolutely falling in love with Scott’s voice. It is my favourite performance and I’ve watched it countless times and it still slays me!
Finally!! I've been waiting for you to get to this one. I KNEW you'd love it. You are absolutely my favorite reactor, Travis. Your face always tells a story and it was so obvious you were blown away. Now it's time to watch it again. And again. :)
Such an amazing performance. One of my favorites from them on the show..... until they do Dog days are over. That one bring me to my feet and a little tear every time. Great reaction. Can't wait for you to see the rest
Not since Scott had their tour manager Esther, Avi's sister, manhandled on stage against her will and held in the chair to do it. Kirstin said as well that they had never had "pranks" as a tradition until that night.
I feel in love with them in these packaged openings... and then the music just rocks my world. Thanks for doing this series. I haven't seen this since it aired and it's really nice to remember where it all started. They are gutting these challenges each week... creating and fine tuning while they're there - that's the most impressive part!
This is when Scott got to show the world just how much soul the man had even at 19. And Mitch at the beginning is just...ugh I love their version of this song.
#12 is my absolute favorite even though this one and Born To Be Wild are a tie for 2nd place! I am so glad you are working through this journey! It's so much fun! Thank you!
You have to watch the 100 songs in 10 Minutes Challenge that Pentatonix did. They have so much fun doing it. You will love their interactions and can tell how much they love each other. And their ability to harmonize on the fly is unreal.
I loved watching you watch that! LOL!!! I loved that one too, but it's my 3rd fav of their sing-off competition performances. My fav is Born to be Wild, and 2nd fav is ET (the 1st performance). But I loved all of them. I was watching the show when it 1st aired & I remember how much I just loved Pentatonix & wanted them to win! I have been loving them ever since. I sorta feel like I have watched my children grow up!! They were still in their teens & early 20s then and now Scott just turned 30, Kevin is over 30, married with a baby daughter... and they have all exceeded any & all expectations any of us Pentaholics ever had for them!! I love going back & watching these sing-off performances to see the hunger they had for success & knowing how hard they worked for it & that it paid off for them in the long road. I know you're gonna love the rest of the performances! Can't wait to see your reactions! Oh, BTW, I got a tattoo yesterday on my right arm - "PENTAHOLIC"!!! I would show you a pic if I knew how to post one here. I hope I get to show it to them at the VIP event at the concert Dec. 11th... I just can't wait!! Love you!!
This is probably my favorite Sing-Off performance. It just works on every level. ETA: This was also the performance back then after which I said "they're won this show". I mean since Week 2 or so I hadn't thought any other group was near as good, and they'd probably win, but after this performance I was 100% sure. It was clear the show wouldn't be able to justify any other winner.
Pentatonix has a handful of performances that never fail to give me chills. This Sing-Off performance is one of them, along with Mary Did You Know and Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). In answer to your question, "Let's Get It On" was their second performance of the night after "OMG". It was R&B Week with current hits in the first round and classics in the second round. I think this was the week when the other remaining groups realized they were all competing for second place.
The twelfth performance is the one that blows me away. After the 12 th performance, the public voted for who would win, so it was very important. Up until then, it was the judges who eliminated the groups. The groups were very supportive of each other. You can watch Sam Tsui behind the scenes and hear the groups talk about each other. They were all supportive. Kirstie even started dating someone in one of the other groups after the show.
This one, Love lockdown and Dog days are over were my Top 3. This was the first show i git into when i got out the Navy. Was just flipping through the chanles. Heard some singing and stopped because i saw Shawn from Boyz II Men. Then i saw PTX. Mind you most of these groups where like 8-20 people strong, I didnt think they would be doing much cause they were so small. Boy was i wrong!!!! i was blown away with just the little intro video before their performance. The first performance i started watching on was Love Lockdown episdoe. Been hooked on and following them every since
yess! I bounce back and forth between this and Love Lockdown as my faves from the Sing Off. with Mitch's wa-wa, Scott's soulful tone, Kirstie's backing vocals, Kevin's steady beat, and Avi's air bass how can you go wrong?! everything about this performance was just so perfect! and I think you hit the nail on the head: it was sexy without trying. that's what makes it so good! your jaw must hurt because you dropped it like it was hot lmao 😂
I could watch this on repeat for days. This and their take on The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" are my favorite Sing-Off performances of theirs. Oh, and Avi playing the air-bass in this KILLS me every time.
Great reaction Travis! My favorite was the 12th one with this right behind it!! The 4th was my third fav. Did you see Kevin's reaction to Ben's prediction in 9 months? It looked like you looked away from the screen to look into the camera and may have missed it! Also, if you thought Scott's performance was amazing on this, I have been telling you in several different comments to check out his duet with Rozzi, " Lose Us"!! I don't want to give it away, but he shows a side to his talent that will blow you away!! Rozzi will amaze you as well. Again, great reaction! Have a wonderful night!!
Finally. I was so stressed that I was going to miss your reaction to this incredible performance. I was checking everyday.😂🤣 I agree with everything you said. Ok one more of my favorites coming up.❤
I think my favorite Sing Off performance of theirs is the very first one. Scott, Mitch, Kirstin, Kevin and Avi together on stage in front of an audience for the first time.
Yes, they did two songs the same night for a number of shows. 2+3 (radio hits + 60s classics), 7+8 (classic rock + new country), 9+10 (modern + classic R&B), 11+12 (master mix medleys + judges choice), 13+14+winner song (finale)
Oh now you’ll have to react to the chair girl performance this. In 2015 they performed this on tour and they would bring an audience member up on stage and sing this to her. There were some pretty great reactions from certain chair girls. Maybe someone can help me recommend one that is funny but also good quality. I know one girl was named Deanna but I can’t remember if she’s the fan favorite as far as this performance goes. Pentaholics help me out
I know Deana, Davie and Jasmine (Yasmine?) Are favorites but there is still a debate on top best. Other than the fact that she was 7 kinds of P!$$ed, I loved Esther too.
Yes that was a Superstar performance by Scott! Man, he was amazing with his solo; If you can make Sean Stockman virtuously speechless by your performance, then you have done something pretty good!
Oh, I was waiting for you to get to this performance, which I consider to be their best performance of the show. It is generally acknowledged that after this performance, the other four groups still in the competition knew that PTX would win the show. They were as blown away as everyone else. The amazing thing to me about their performances on this show is that they only had one week to plan, arrange, and practice each song, and they were still able to put together a performance like this one. It definitely foreshadowed their future capabilities and success.
Does you face hurt, such a huge smile for most of this song. I love how they did this and your reaction was great. This was my favorite from the Singoff.
once you finish watching the actual performances, please watch the video where they actually announce the winner. it’s such a heart-warming moment and i know i would love to see your reaction to it. i’m guessing i’m not alone in that statement. love your ptx reactions, stay golden travis 💕
YES this is the one I was waiting for you to get to. IMHO this was their absolute best performance. Many people will tell you the 12th performance is their best, with good reason, but for me, this is how they won. And I agree and have been saying that this was, to this day, one of Scott's best vocals, which is insane because his vocals since this have been absolutely epic, but here he got to unleash that beast and get rewarded for it. I love this performance sfm.
I have wondered if Scott was supposed to take the mic and move around the stage or if he was supposed to stay put. I think he couldn't contain himself.
Definitely the best performance, in my opinion, followed very closely by Dog Days. My favorite, though, is the next one, Since U Been Gone x Forget You mashup, just for the drama element they added.
A pentaholic looked it up and yes there was a bump in the birth rate. LOL. It was an incredibly rendition of that song. Scott killed it. I knew you’d love it. I rushed to view this. Awesome
I believe it!
WAIT, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! 😂
Thanks for this one Travis! This is definitely one of my favorites. The 12th performance is the other and you will be absolutely blown away!!!
*rubs hands together…getting so close to 12, which is my favorite. They destroyed the competition that night - and there were great groups. I remember turning to my BFF and just saying WTF! It was incredible then, it is incredible now. I knew you would love it and you would kill that look too!
12 is coming !!!! Can't wait :)
Oh yay, this is going to be a good one! There's that "Penta-Slapped" face again!😄Love your reaction!
Oh, I was waiting for you to get to this one and your reaction did not disappoint! You had “stank face” from the first note of Mitch’s wa wa’s, and your reaction to Scott going full-out was so much fun to watch!
This was what I believe to be the begining of Mitch's journey of sounding like electric instruments ❕❗😂
Actually, I think he's doing a muted trumpet here
@@rudewalrus5636 well than he can do multiple instruments lol
It was FIRE!!!! The other groups knew at this point that they were in the running for second and third!
I have the same three favorites! 😀

This one gets me every time. Scott is SO good in this one.

Look at you, beeing Scott slapped and all. 😍😍 Hold on, it's geting even better!! Tnx.
We told you so!!! And if you think that was good, wait until you see #12 - it's even better!
My favorite of the sing off is this one, second; dog days are over and third; born to be wild 🤩
Ok, so that isn't a genre that I am ever going to care deeply about, but man, did they do an impressive job of _nailing_ the characteristics of the genre, using only human voices.
The 12th performance 🤯🤯🤯
The only one I love more than this one is "Dog Days are Over" by Florence + the Machine which I think won them the show. I think it's #12?
Yes this song and Dog days are over are my top 2 favorites from their Sing Off days 💖💖
This is the one I've been waiting for.
This was my favorite song from the sing off. Scott killed it. OMG Travis what an incredible reaction you gave. You hit every point.
Insane with the 3 of them at age 19! Avi, Kevin rocked the world. Scott was beastly in this! Great reaction again!
I feel this the performance where they won. And I am happy you saw that guy on the other group with his hands to his head. He must have been thinking, "Oh, we're playing for second place now, huh?"

When you get to the 12th performance make sure you watch until the very end… it makes me tear up every time 😭
Crazy good right?!?!?! I would love to see your reaction to Scott and Rozzi singing "Lose Us". Amazing!
One word. AMAZING!!!!!!!
I remember watching this and absolutely falling in love with Scott’s voice. It is my favourite performance and I’ve watched it countless times and it still slays me!
OMFG!!!!! This is my favorite PTX performance from sing off!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭😭
Finally!! I've been waiting for you to get to this one. I KNEW you'd love it. You are absolutely my favorite reactor, Travis. Your face always tells a story and it was so obvious you were blown away. Now it's time to watch it again. And again. :)
My favorite sing off performance by them. Scott was FEELIN' IT.
Such an amazing performance. One of my favorites from them on the show..... until they do Dog days are over. That one bring me to my feet and a little tear every time. Great reaction. Can't wait for you to see the rest
I paused what I was watching to come here, this is my favorite performance of the Sing Off
getting closer to my favorite one......
Ooooh Yay!!!!
Def my fav
For a number of years they would bring a person on stage and sing this to them in their shows. I don't think they do it anymore though.
Not anymore, but I would love to see him react to The Best Chair Girl- was it Chicago? So funny. th-cam.com/video/xK-AG8GaAUw/w-d-xo.html
@@angiepeterson1282 thank you for sharing this! Saved me from doing it! Yes, Travis, you need to react to this!
Not since Scott had their tour manager Esther, Avi's sister, manhandled on stage against her will and held in the chair to do it.
Kirstin said as well that they had never had "pranks" as a tradition until that night.
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 well that would certainly ruin it.
I always have to replay Mitch’s beginning to this song multiple times every time I see it. It sounds so good!
Yes, and I also have to keep replaying the beginning to Born to be Wild bcoz of Kevin & Avi !!!!!
My all time favorite is the 12th performance
The only one not surprised at the end of this performance was Scott.
That smile and look of utter confidence says it all.
Great reaction Travis!
Mitch’s coming out performance is around the corner. Waiting this whole journey to watch you go red in the face. Gitty with anticipation
I'd forgotten how much he "pulled in" Marvin Gay. He sounded great.
I feel in love with them in these packaged openings... and then the music just rocks my world.

You have to watch the 100 songs in 10 Minutes Challenge that Pentatonix did. They have so much fun doing it. You will love their interactions and can tell how much they love each other. And their ability to harmonize on the fly is unreal.

Scott is really a vocal beast!!!!! Hear they are up for about 6 grammies!
I remember this was one of my favorites. Thanks for reacting to it. LOVED watching your face during this. Awesome.

PTX's 2nd best Sing Off performance.
My favorite is episode 11. You're going to love it! They sing Florence and the Machines “Dog Days.”

My favorite is Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machine
And to think after they won the show and moved to LA, their record label dropped them. Great reaction as always 😊
Great reaction Travis! My favorite was the 12th one with this right behind it!! The 4th was my third fav. Did you see Kevin's reaction to Ben's prediction in 9 months? This is probably their 2nd best performance. The best is, hands-down, the 12th. The Dog Days performance.
And with that the other groups knew they were now competing for second place!
I think my favorite Sing Off performance of theirs is the very first one. Scott, Mitch, Kirstin, Kevin and Avi together on stage in front of an audience for the first time.
This and the 12th performance were my favs of the whole competition! Love your reactions ♥️. Keep them coming!!

One of my favorites. Still more to come! Wonder if anyone followed up on that birth rate statistic.
