    Hey Chuck, this is Wes from Wacky Fence Farm in Fairmont, WV. I've been watching since before the shout-out but never introduced myself. We've had a 30 bird layer flock for a year now and this year were doing a meat chicken CSA along with some turkeys. Trying to talk my girlfriend into taking the plunge on a couple feeder pigs as well, wish me luck! We're taking a lot of ideas from your processing set up in building out our own. Thanks for all the informative videos!

    Hey y'all from Aiken S.C. A very wet winter. Raising 18 pigs and some egg laying chickens. Who knew pigs would eat hay? The old saying about hay being for horses is not true. Using 250g totes for shelters (took the plastic out of the cage, cut an opening in it, and put it on a pallet). Pallet fence is working out good. No t-posts. All reclaimed material (except some of the screws 😊). Good vid. Thanks.

    Another great clip. My miss piggy gave birth to 9 piglets last Thursday . She was way way way over due. She's a first time mum and everything went well. We think she had 6 girls and 3 boys. She's a large white and so is dad but I think they are a bit of a cross coz 1 baby looks like a brown saddle back and 2 others have black spots. Anyway She's a good mum always checking b4 she lies down and if she thinks her piglets need a feed she wakes them up and then lies down for them to have a feed. Your clips have given me more confidence in interacting with her thanks heaps. I use a pig tractor made up of 2X12 steel gates and 2X10 steel gates with shade cover over the top, when miss piggy has eaten the grass and dug it up we hook the pig tractor up to the 4B and tow it 12 foot to a fresh patch of grass and then in the old position vegetables are planted

    Madison Wisconsin! And raising 5 Old Spots this winter before starting with about 12 in the woods. Getting them early June. Any disadvantages to free feeding the pigs in your opinion? I do not want to disincentivize them from foraging/or them gaining too much weight too fast. But the time aspect of free feeding is hard to say no to.

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t think so. They will naturally root for forage and we noticed a decrease in feed consumption for the first few days after moving them. I think they would naturally rather have forage as opposed to feed. Either way you are raising a far superior pig to what can be bought in the grocery. Appreciate y’all watching

    • @andymiles4225
      @andymiles4225 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SheratonParkFarms One of the major reasons for the KY property considerations is there are producing natural gas wells on the property. “Free” heat for the main living area, barns, brood and rabbit houses, plus running the generator for electrifying the entire farm should, IMHO, offset the 5% income tax in KY. Additionally, the NE side of the timbered hills is the perfect habitat to invest in a little ginseng cultivation that has a crop cycle of 4-5 years. I love California, it’s my home from birth for 63 years, in the same home. The saddest part of situation is there is no foreseeable return to sanity in the governmental structure that has ruined the state!
