I’ve recently had the chance to spend the day with one of their bikes. Makes you rethink the whole gotta have full suspension motto! (At least for the riding I do)
Super cool behind-the-scenes look at what goes into a chromag bike. I, for one, typically prefer threadded BBs, but after seeing the size difference between the two, the PF makes a lot more sense in this application. Beautiful bikes.
Yeah we felt it was important for Ian to explain that actually there was a purpose for using the press fit system in this instance. It can be such a 'poking the bear' topic to bring up, but here everyone has learnt where there is a useful application.
@6:22 Peter is like whooa shit film crew whoooa I just got back from my morning break spliff feeling para and it seems that the doggo @10:58 was with him :) Anyhoos jokes aside been looking at building a steel HT for a while, been eying brands like BTR, Stanton, Moxxie & Shand all great frame builders but keep coming back to Chromag, something special about them that just keeps hooking me in to them & I think this vid has sealed my choice.
@@jiajunsun3845 i said a lot of their stuff is designed for looks not speed, but that doesnt mean they arent good, i love their pedals and bars but a lot of their parts are above average weight last i checked. No hardtail frame is going to be fast, but their stuff is for sure high quality
I gots a rootdown which is the Taiwanese made version with same geometry. It rides soooo well I love it. It really rips downhill, so well that I have no interest in taking my dualie out anymore. And I can climb so much better on hardtail it feels like cheating.
Great video! Always awesome to see the people that create killer bikes. I love the Rootdown BA that I just built and it gets better each time I ride it!
These guys love music, their full band set up with 2 drum kits is pretty impressive. Music is a big part of their culture, and we ruined it by making them turn it all off!
This video makes me wonder: are die hard mountain bikers actually good mountain bike engineers? Can see some reasons why they might be and some why they might not. Very interesting video! Thanks
What i dont understand about the "new" geometry trends is the short rear end. Especially on a hardtail. If you really wanna shred on a hardtail you are gonna want all the rear end stability you can get and in that case short chanistays arent of much help. I get that they want the bikes to feel more lively but shouldnt a stable rear end be what you want on a hardtail, becuase hardtails are really playful by nature?
TH-cam User I'll take the shortest chainstay I can find. It turns, manuals, and jumps so well. The primary reason I bought my chameleon is because of the 415mm chainstay.
A short rear end is not as stable, but it turns so much better. Some folks are going to like the straightline stability more than the ability to rotate quickly, but I prefer a shorter back end. Modern 29er hardtails have shorter backends than my old 26", and consequently lose that old wagon wheel feeling that folks used to complain about. When a hardtail has long chainstays it feels dead and cumbersome to me.
CHROMAG PLEASE REMOVE THAT FD CABLE GUIDE!!! OH MY GOD FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD PLEASE REMOVE IT! Who still use that difficult-to-maintenance front derailleur this day. For radical MTB brand like chromag it is just not makes any sense. And i think chromag should remove it from 2014. Buy Surly if you want to use front derailleur. I am from Indonesia. And Chromag is become a dream component here.
Aaaaaaand I just found my next bike. Now to start saving for one these beauties.

I dont understand why all new BB standards have to be PF. Why not another threaded size if the diameter needs to increase?
because imagine trying to work a huge thread lose that is siezed or jammed
@@ryanthomaslane1 There is the T47 option
The dudes at chromag definitely have a taste for audio too lol, all those speakers and that amp above their workstation
Love my Primer, one of the best bikes of my life.
You guys are doing amazing things over there making ART I CAN RIDE ON!!! Just beautiful
Got the best named frame builder mister TrueLove
great bikes, always love to ride hardtails
I own one of these hand built Primers and it is a utter joy to ride.

How many speakers do they have in that place lol
Too many to count...
Not the only take away from the video I got but it was exactly my thought. lol
Never can have too many.
Does anyone spotted the Naim ?
A trick: watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
It's the hardtail of my dreams! Awesome video!
So good. Love ya Ian!
Great vid!!! I also see the Husky "guard dog" hard at work!
Whoever is in Canada, you should go out and buy any Chromag item right now. This is about as real as a bike company gets.
Robert Turnip a lot of their stuff is designed for looks not speed
@@ethanknight8461 Do you own a Chromag bike to say that they are fast? Just wondering

Joel how does the rootdown climb? I ride up longer climbs and wanna know if this bike would still be a good everyday trail bike?
@@gumbi8989 It would be the most ideal everyday trail bike
I want one of these bikes so bad! They really do look unique!
they ride so smooth , they are very versatile you can ride them almost anywhere very solid and most important, they are fun!
Just bought the red stylus and I can't believe how nice the paint job is on this bike!
Awesome company...gorgeous bikes and components!!! Ian is a super cool guy 😎🤙
Such an awesome clip👍🏻
Another nice insight video! Thanks Andy
Great video! Always awesome to see the people that create killer bikes. I love the Rootdown BA that I just built and it gets better each time I ride it!
i should of build the rootdown instead of the styus , cause she cant climb !
Lovvveee the Naim 5si at 6:52 !!
Great video guys, in south america we love Chromag bikes, sadly there are no distributors in this part of the globe
Nice Bikes! One Question: Why trhere are so many Speakers????

Makes me want to go ride my Chromag 🤘😃🤘
Trying to order one man I can’t find any!!!!! Chromag monk dj large. Any color besides purple
Yoooo!!!! These guys are audiophiles!!!
No chain guild mount ?
Bikes and loudspeakers- just all we need.
Very cool look behind the curtain.

That’s pretty sick!
Oh, Ben's employed there! Thought that was a pan handler
This frame looks like a Haro Vector Z series from the 90's and early 00's
chromags are awseome, wideangle here
Very cool!
Could that be my Rootdown on the table? Probably not. Hardtail>Full Squish
That’s what I call top drawer craftsmanship all the way start to finish !!
So cool!

I agree. Finnish Pole is making long and slack bikes with long chainstays.
Pukki34 but pole is expensive af.

William Taylor ?
Bb92 might be nice and wide but the press fit bottom brackets sure are shit
W A N T ! ! ! !
So Chromag is basically one guy welding the frames, and the rest are administration.
My Dream Bike :-(
need better colorway.. especially for the hefty market price. IMO
Stick with Supercycle then.
so anyway you guys can just give me one of those?? lol
Their frames bend in foam pits
Do they?
That music got very annoying

Some people still like to add a bashguard and that's where it mounts, also some people who run 1x still insist on having a chainguide.
Yeah. Some people like having gears. 1Xs are overrated.
ugg the "music"
Dude! $4600 for a fucking bike?! Does it make me coffee in the morning too?! WTF!
Yeah probably
My 1991 Yo Eddy was a $5700 bike. You must not be into riding, I take it.
