Localized street flooding in Somerville, MA 07/12/2017 - Clearing the storm drains of debris

  • A lot of streets in the city of Somerville flood pretty badly due to the debris that constantly get clogged in the storm drains. I typically head out to clear the debris, since it takes a while for the city to send help.

How far do you walk before you open a drain. You’ve passed several

That's one thing I always do. If there is a threat of heavy rains, I always go out and check the drains to make sure this can't happen in the first place.

I work for a city entity and I love this guy. It’s not that we don’t want to help your neighborhood, it’s that we’ve had a hundred calls already that we just go by street by street basis. We want to help everyone but we’re told what to do by our bosses. If you see 10 city workers opening one drain it’s because we were all told “that’s the f@&$ing drain you open today”

All the bitching & criticizing about not enough clearing & too much walking, well I don't recall seeing any of YOU complainers out there at all! Also it's NOT his 🤬 job, he pays taxes just like everyone else, including the person he walked past playing with the rubber ducky! At least he's trying to do something. Also your wrong about him walking past all the drains, because the city crew came to the exact one he was at & towards the end of the video, you know an hour & 15 minutes later, he's still at the same drain with the city crew & the majority of the flooding had drained now, why??? Because they got the debris out of the way. Yet, what's the last thing this guy, the one you all are criticizing, do? He point blank asked the city crew, to make sure someone was going to clear all the debris off the side walk that they just threw up there from the drain. So yeah, let's trash the only guy in the entire freaking area who cared enough to try & do something & then ensure a mess wasn't left on a side walk, that isn't even near his home! This is why people hesitate to do nice things for others anymore, it's never good enough.
