Duncan (my Westie) hosts his own Dog Meetup here in St. Augustine. Normally, he loves all dogs and our meetups go extremely well with Duncan being a considerate host. However, occasionally Duncan goes psycho (and yes, that is the appropriate word) on a specific dog. It tends to be a male, younger than him (he is only 17 months) who is not neutered. When that happens, I just say, "Duncan lives for his naps and it's nappy time" and we excuse ourselves. It is so embarrassing though when you own one of the world's friendliest dogs. Duncan is considered the friendliest dog in the neighborhood (with the exception of two dogs he thinks something is wrong with and loses his mind). Does that ever happen with Sami? Are our Westies judges of character? Do you think there is something wrong with those other dogs or is it our little boys?

I enjoy your videos, and yes I do all the things you recommend which have kept my latest Westie healthy now for almost 13 years. He has slowed down, but that is to be expected due to his age. I have had him since a pup, and he loves chasing a ball or catching it when thrown up in the air. Chasing a ball is his favorite thing. He has been a big chewer since being a pup, and his teeth have always been clean and white with no tarter. He only chews on rawhide bones or his toys thank goodness!
Food and exercise are definitely 2 of Z's favorite things, but she hates baths and brushes. As soon as she's nice and clean, she rubs herself all over the place to get all dirty again. At almost 15, she's slowing down in some areas, but is still as energetic as ever. ❤️
Hello I have a 6 month old westie & she is the pickiest eater. She was ok with chicken meals & now developed an aversion to chicken. She was ok for months with chicken, just preferred beef meals over chicken. Now she refuses chicken & if she does eat it she throws it up. She also won’t eat dry food by its self. I have been giving her Caesar meal toppers (not the pate one). Is this normal? Do you recommend a wet food that could mix with dry food?
Hi, Sami is picky too! It could be a Westie thing. When he was a puppy I changed his kibble ever 3-4 months because he's love it at first, then he got bored and refused to eat. However, the fact that she throws up if she eats chicken isn't normal. Maybe there is something else going on. Can you ask the vet next time you go? Also I would try something else like maybe turkey or duck? See if she does well with that? About not eating kibble by itself, Sami is also like this and I make homecooked food like fish or beef with veggies and rice and mix it into his kibble. I freeze it in cubes so it's easier to store and not always be cooking. I can't recommend a wet food because I haven't tried them. I sometimes open a can of tuna in water and mix a little of that in his kibble, if I'm out of homecooked food. He loves it!
✨💖✨Great video. Our little guy like to reenact __The Call of the Wild__ by running up hills and snow drifts. Then he stands up there looking over his kingdom. But yesterday he took a tumble off his favorite snow drift and started limping. My husband drove him in to the vet this morning. Exam, X-rays: no broken bones or dislocated joints. He has some anti inflammatory meds and something for pain. And we have to keep him quiet and limit his long walks. It’s hard because they can’t tell you what hurts.
Snow can be so much fun! 🥰 I'm glad he is ok, he probably has a sprain. Sami had this too. It sucks for about a week while he is on meds, as he can't run and do zoomies, this is the hardest part. You are great dog parents for taking him to get checked ❤ Wishing your pup a speedy recovery!
Westies are the absolute Best! My biggest mistake was not consistently socializing mine with other dogs. They both loved people & were loving & protective but wouldn’t tolerate any other pets. You’re a very smart mama, Sami is absolutely adorable 😘

He's 5 years old and weighted 8.5kg at the vets and it was looking as he was starting to get a little chubby. He only has cooked chicken thighs for his dinner. I use to give him 3 but have cut that back to 2. It's clear that he has lost weight but now I worry he's not getting enough food. The vet said he is healthy. He also has kibble earlier in the day and has a lot of treats. I'm keeping a close eye on him now.
Sami is 4 and a half and weighs 7.8 - 8kg and eats way less than it says on the bag that he should. Every dog has different needs (also depending on level of exercise). I know you will worry because it's normal ❤ but it sounds like you are feeding him well and he seems to be doing great! Dogs who have loving humans are rarely too skinny or underfed ☺ but the opposite is quite common. You are doing a great job!
I didn't think of the correlation between white coats and allergy. I also don't know about other breeds 😅 But I know light pink skin is more sensitive than black - and most Westies have black skin, Sami has pink.
And how Sami copes with waiting for someone who goes with him for a walk after returning from work. My dog could wait 10 hours for me to come back from the office
Super little video, as always. Interestingly, here in the United States, we're having an epidemic of dog flu, and veterinarians are recommending that people not go to dog parks for the foreseeable future until the flu has abated somewhat.
Thank you! 🥰 Oh that sucks! There are flu epidemics with dogs just like we have them with humans. Sami once met a dog lady, they spent some time together playing and sniffing, then the next day he got the flu with lots of sneezing and runny nose. Had to take antibiotics to get better. It's one of the reasons why I don't like dog parks. The other is that Sami has bad manners and he can become obsessive with other dogs, haha. So I prefer to socialize him at training school 😄

Has Sami been fixed? I don't know the correct word.
Not yet 😅 We planned on puppies, but in the end we never did and the vet recommends we castrate him in the next 1-2 years as he gets older.
