Somebody who isn’t the interim champion they’re supposed to end up being unified that completely ruins the whole purpose of the interim championship
Dana and the UFC handled the entire situation wrong. There are two ways they could/should have went about it: 1) Jones should have relinquished his title. Jiri did it, Jamahal did it. He knew he was going to be out for a loooong time and he knew he was never going to fight Aspinall or Pavlovich. So why hold up the division except for his own ego? 2) make Jones agree to keep his belt but he fights the interim champion upon his return instead of Stipe. Also, giving Stipe the shot was wrong in the first place. I dont think Stipe beats Aspinall, Pavlovich. I dont even think he brats Blaydes at this point and would struggle with the fluidity of Gane, who got his ass whooped by Jones. This was some amateur-level decisionmaking by the UFC. It shows that Dana is Jones' lapdog, not the other way around
Ideally it should work like that but there’s a precedence of the opposite, when Randy Couture defended his UFC heavyweight championship against Brock Lesnar while Antonio Rodrigo Noguera was interim champion(and was going to defend it against Frank Mir)
Bruce will just announce and now the new or and new HW champion of the world when the fights is over. If what Chael says is true. But i think Buffer will just say and still if Toms wins
He’s correct an that’s why Aspinall is defending his interim belt because he wants to fight but this will all mean nothing when jones comes back to fight stipe and he instantly gets stripped
There’s been plenty of instances where there was an active undisputed champ and someone won an interim. Poirier and Gaethje before they fought khabib are the first to come to mind.
The Interim Champ belt exists to give that fighter a physical ticket to get the next title shot. The UFC right now is just focusing on what is gonna make the most money and not fulfilling the sport for being fair.
Once the original champion can return, at the discretion of the sanctioning body or promotion concerned, they must defend their title against the interim champion - who will relinquish their interim title to fight for the full world title. If the original champion cannot return, refuses to defend their title, or transfers to a different weight division, the interim champion is promoted to full championship status Jon should be stripped technically
Actually...the interim belt would cease if/after a winner, and new champion, is declared. Sooooo...after the fight *ends* ...not after the opening bell.

That is how it Goes. Defend interim a few times.... interim rhe Golden tixket to the Chanpion fight. And Dana Sets aNew Interim Bracket of contenders!!!
The whole reason is for the REIGNING UNDISPUTED CHAMPION to face the interim there is no other way around it
The champion should have to fight the interim champion on his return
See Pro Wrestling knows that interim champ vs champ means 💰🤑💰
In my opinion, if you get injured and somebody has to step in and fight for the interim belt, if you’re going to end up being active, the next person you fight is whoever wins that belt not who you were originally gonna fight cause at that point that belt was done for nothing you shouldn’t become active and fight. Somebody who isn’t the interim champion they’re supposed to end up being unified that completely ruins the whole purpose of the interim championship
Dana and the UFC handled the entire situation wrong.
There are two ways they could/should have went about it:
1) Jones should have relinquished his title.
I indeed, did like that
This is going to drive British fans insane, but Tom is still number one contender and next in line. 😛
True
Isn't that just how the title works?
Chael sounds like he doesn’t want Bones to fight Aspinall either 😂😂 JBJ fan too btw but still.
rules should be if you are the interim champ you are guaranteed a next in line to fight the champ
Ideally it should work like that but there’s a precedence of the opposite, when Randy Couture defended his UFC heavyweight championship against Brock Lesnar while Antonio Rodrigo Noguera was interim champion(and was going to defend it against Frank Mir)
Like Tony and Colby when Khabib and Woodley fought
Fookin el mate.
They’re doing aspinall so dirty rn keeping him on the shelf
Bruce will just announce and now the new or and new HW champion of the world when the fights is over. If what Chael says is true. But i think Buffer will just say and still if Toms wins
I been saying this. No matter what Tommy loses his belt and Jin will make him wait til he retires to try again
Jones vs. Stipe is the fight to make. After that Tom fights for the undisputed heavyweight championship
Makes sense
Once the original champion can return, at the discretion of the sanctioning body or promotion concerned, they must defend their title against the interim champion - who will relinquish their interim title to fight for the full world title. If the original champion cannot return, refuses to defend their title, or transfers to a different weight division, the interim champion is promoted to full championship status
Jon should be stripped technically
It would make my life if Bruce announces Jones as the disputed champion of the world if he beats Stipe.
He'll only say Reigning, defending ufc heavyweight 😂... Would be funny though 😂
If he comes back and fights someone other than the interim champ that just makes him a disputed champion not undisputed
MM and UU 🐐 & 👑
Actually...the interim belt would cease if/after a winner, and new champion, is declared. Sooooo...after the fight *ends* ...not after the opening bell.
