  • When Manik was the President of University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI), him and his friends led one of Indonesia's biggest student protest labelled #ReformasiDikorupsi. Manik, who's brave enough to call out the members the People’s Representatives Council (DPR) to their face, admits that speaking up in his family's Whatsapp group can be much harder and scarier.
There are many intricate nuances when it comes to Indonesian youth and political participation due to norms, values, and frustration that is often discredited as mere apathy. We're here to discuss them in this episode.
This episode is in collaboration with the British Council. “The Next Generation” report surveys youths (aged 16-35) in various countries who are undergoing significant change, including Indonesia. This study examines various ways in which Indonesian youth view themselves and their place in the country.

    Talking about Indonesian socio-political issues...
    Which one are you:
    a. Uninformed optimist
    b. Informed pessimist
An open discussion like this is much more needed to educate and open our eyes to our current socio-political situation in our beloved country Indonesia.
Thanks for sharing this discussion here, WIUI!
Keep up the good work! 🤟🏻

Not quite finished with the episode yet but you guys should make a subseries of podcasts with politically engaged Indonesian youths. Having more visible examples / role models and hearing them talk about what moves them to be politically engaged could inspire more engagement in itself. :)

Sponsored by the British Council only cause we use their Next Gen Report as a basis for this discussion 😬😬 the report itself is politically neutral!

@@WIUI and you don't need to call them sponsors if you guys use their data for educational purposes, I guess.
And being indo it's impossible for you to do what you do without sponsorships, either dalam atau luar negeri. My feelings
