  • On the debut episode of the Original Gangsters Podcast back in 2019, we interviewed former Columbo crime family powerhouse Larry Mazza. Larry told us what it was like to be taken under the wing of one of the Mafia's most vicious gangsters, Greg "The Grim Reaper" Scarpa. Mazza also gave us a behind the scenes look of the making of the 'The Irishman' starring Al Pacino and Robert Deniro.

The title is incorrect he was never a captain hell the guy he looked up to Scarpa was only a captain in the 60s until Joe was shot he then was demoted to soldier and stayed that until his demise

You're right. We misspoke. It's bound to happen when you record episodes every week for 4 yrs now. Won't be the last time. We hope people enjoy the episode nevertheless.

I don't even think he was ever made. Just recently did he bring up/make up some small simplified making ceremony where he got his button 🙄 I guess he'd forgotten about it. He didn't put it in his book, his 302s, while testifying or even mention it until recently 🤡

@@Travis-pv8vj Hi Travis, I agree, that from my research he was never inducted. However, we cannot deny the access that he had to one of the most notorious mob figures of the past 3 decades. Something that he was able to provide an insight into, even if Mazza was inaccurate.

@@originalgangsterspod totally understandable...i was trying to let you guys knows is all i figured as mob historians you wouldnt want to push a false narrative...i have heard thngs where he wasnt made but that will never be confirmed 1 way or the other... iv always thght his story was intresting and the fact that he was under scarpa (top informant) speaks 4 its self and not even larry knew greg was talkin...makes u think if carmine knew n the 60s and if thats the real reason they demoted him...maybe try a new thng where they knew he was and just used it for their gain

If Larry was Made he would have got killed even if there was no war.Allegedly he is or was a swinger so if there was legit info that he was laying down with other men he “Would of got This” Just like that boss from Decalvavante family Johnny boy.

We've already addressed this in other comments. This episode is five yrs old. We misspoke, no doubt about it. We could have edited it out, but decided to leave it raw and own it. The audio version is still one of our most most downloaded episodes, so we decided to post it on the YT channel. But saying he was made and held rank was bad call on our part. Not making excuses.
