    Funny he says tht , guys his age were influenced by goodfellas , guys gravanos age were influenced by godfather , guys dom grandes age prolly influenced by sopranos. Art imitates life imitates art, black guys like myself in my neighborhoods older than myself influenced by Scarface , and new jack city , and kids my age (late 80s babies ) influenced by paid in full. Interesting cultural phenomenon!

    One thing I think is interesting about the Galante/Rastelli era of the Bonnanos is that, even though Galante was not recognised as Boss by the Commission, it seems that guys he made - e.g. Bonventre and Amato - were recognised as made members by the Commission. Which seems like a kind of tacit recognition of his authority.

    My family moved out of Bushwick to Ozone Park in 1945 because they saw it changing...I was amazed that you were there until 72. Joe and Mary's was there in 1979...We visited Our Lady Of Lourdes for a Church ⛪ Reunion in 1985 and it was a War Zone. Was the Bushwick area closest to Ridgewood stay good the longest? Did u go to Grover Cleveland or Christ the King? Matt

    I don’t know if you guys or Frank might have any thoughts on this, but I have often speculated that part of the reason that Galante would not accept Rusty as Boss was because Galante was Castellammarese and he felt the Bonanno Family was the Castellammare Family, and Rusty was a mainland Italian. Obviously, Lilo was also just a greedy psycho, but still, he might also have thought no way the Family was gonna be run by some Neapolitan. So he takes over and surrounds himself with new blood from Castellammare, keeping the Family true to its roots. Any thoughts from the team?

    • @Frosty98206

      Galante broke a lot of rules for one he didn't cut the other families in on the Massive amounts of Money he was earning Via the Dope Trade then proceeded to kill other Drug guys in other families Gambino's for example, Than 💣 Bombed Frank Costello Tomb, He was just a Maverick who didn't play but any rules but his own when he went inside, He was a Higher up in the Bonnano family so when he came out he felt he had a Legitimate Claim to the Top spot even tho he was a Unofficial Acting Boss & never voted in as Official Boss due to Rusty Rastelli holding the 🔝 Spot.

    In the book The Sixth Family, about the Rizzutos, the authors suggest that, far from the Bonnanos/Galante “bringing the zips over” as loyal soldiers, the zips were in fact SENT by the Sicilian Mafia, presumably the Castellammare Family, to enact a hostile take over of the American Bonnano Mafia… It seems like Cesare Bonventre may have been a made member in Sicily before he was sent to America and made into the Bonnanos (even though double membership was officially prohibited).

    • @toto1921
      @toto1921 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, was never prohibited. In fact it is completely irrelevant where you make the oath. Do you Think John Gambino, after his flet from sicily, and instantly put in position as captain in New York, was "made" again ?
      Bonventre was 100% surely "made" in Sicily, dont think he ever was "made" in USA. Even old Gambino was already a mafioso, or if you want to "made" in sicily. Its an oath were they were made men of honour and introducted how to behave as such ones. To folllow his capo/boss strictly, putting him above every real family member, never to talk to police, not to touch the women of other men of honour etc Its always the same procedure, exactly, in USA or Sicily. In Calabria or Campania ( Region of Neaples ) its different. Other structre other rules completely different things.

    • @willmosse3684
      @willmosse3684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toto1921 Yes, but double membership is prohibited. My understanding is that in the cases you mention, membership is transferred from one family to another. You are not a member of two families. The allegation in the book Sixth Family regarding Bonventre was that he was made in the Castellammare del Golfo family in Sicily, and made again into the Bonanno family in NYC. So he was at the same time a made member of two families, one in Sicily and one in the US. This is not allowed.
      I believe that I have since seen something that questioned whether he was actually made in Sicily at all though. I think it was on the Mob Archaeologists podcasts they said that he was so young when he came to America that he probably would not have been made. I would have to go back and double check that though. But in terms of whether he was made in America, there is an informant record of him being made by Galante in NY. I forget the guy’s name, but there was someone who turned informant that said they were part of the same making ceremony as Bonventre. They were waiting in the bathroom, but could hear Bonventre being made in the next room, and then they went through to get made themselves.
      So the allegation in the Sixth Family book is that Bonventre was really a kind of double agent, infiltrating the Bonanno Family while “really” still being a member of and working for the Sicilian mafia. Given we have independent evidence he was made in America, I guess either this is the case, or, he was never made in Sicily. Under your version of how this is supposed to work, which actually comports with the point I was making, he should not have been made into two different families.

    • @willmosse3684
      @willmosse3684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toto1921 Also, in terms of your point that it is completely different with Calabria or Campania, I am not 100% sure on that point. I actually asked former Gambino captain Mikey ‘Scars’ DeLionardo about that in the comment section under one of his videos. He answered that with a letter of release, it was also possible to get a transfer from ‘Ndrangheta or Camorra. Now, he is in a much better position to know than you or me, coming from a long mafia lineage going back to his grandfather as a Gambino captain in the pre-Commission era and his great-grandfather as a member in Sicily. Having said that, I have never actually seen an example of zip transfer from ‘Ndrangheta or Camorra, so he may well be wrong about that. I will follow up with Scars and ask him. Having said that, even knowing about transfers from Sicily after the very early days is not that clear. As we were just discussing, it is generally said that Cesare Bonventre was made in Sicily before coming to America, but now I am seeing that questioned. And regarding the other guy you mention - John Gambino - are sure? I thought I had read that Rosario Gambino was made in Sicily, but that John and Joe were not, but were made into the Gambinos in America? Or perhaps, John was also made in Sicily and transferred to the Gambinos, while Rosario just never transferred? I’ll have to look into it more. But the point is, even with Sicilians, it can be murky as to whether they were members in Sicily who transferred, or were guys from mafia lineages but who were only associates in Sicily but didn’t actually get made until they got to America. So there could have been transfers from ‘Ndrangheta or Camorra but no one outside a select few would ever know that.
      Having said all that, if you have a good source for the info that transfers were/are not permitted from ‘Ndrangheta or Camorra, I would be very interested to check that out. Cheers

    • @willmosse3684
      @willmosse3684 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toto1921 That transfers aren’t permitted from Calabria or Napoli you mean? You’re gonna need an actual source to make a fully credible claim. “I’m Sicilian” isn’t good enough to claim certainty of the rules of American Cosa Nostra, more that an actual capo in American Cosa Nostra. If I had to make an educated guess I would guess you are right, as the American organisation is an offshoot of the Sicilian organisation, and the others do have completely different structures. Plus there is a lot of information about ongoing connections between America and Sicily, certainly in the early days, but even into the modern era, and I’ve never seen any evidence of these kinds of connections with Calabria or Campania (though in Canada there do seem to be links between American Cosa Nostra and ‘Ndrangheta, and it’s quite hard to work out exactly how those function). And I will take into account your opinion as a Sicilian. But I really need a member source to confirm that, given I have a knowledgeable member source saying the opposite.

    Drives me nuts when people pronounce Galante’s nickname as Lillo. Lee-Lo Merigones lol. Unfortunately that is the Life it destroys families and not just your own maybe for generations. Colombo Family was treacherous they probably have the worst history between them next to the Bonannos. Is it possible due to more Sicilian Factions back then?
