🔥 There’s one skill that separates great IT Project Managers from everyone else-project tailoring. Most project managers get stuck trying to learn every new tool and process out there. They dive deep into theories but still struggle to deliver projects on time and within budget. It’s frustrating. The truth is, great project managers don’t try to do it all-they focus on tailoring simple processes and tools that work best for their team and projects. That’s what creates transparency, predictability, and results. But here’s the thing-tailoring isn’t just guessing what might work. It’s about knowing three critical components: 1) Understanding project management on a deeper level. 2) Knowing exactly what to tailor. 3) Applying it effectively in real companies with real people. That’s why I created the Professional Development Plan for IT Project Managers-to help you master project tailoring and finally become the project manager who delivers every time, no matter the challenge. ✅ Click the link below to get your development plan now and take the next step toward mastering project management. itpmschool.com/get-plan?
At first I wanted an Exec role but after a few considerations I realized I love family time more than work, Love the project office due to its nature of working on/with different things (still puzzled as to my end goal). Thanks for the sharing of your knowledge will definitely subscribe.
Training is key to moving through the career path for project management and so is growing your EQ. There are great career paths with high salaries available for the right people.
Thank you so much for making this video and providing so much information. I am looking to transition in Project Management and I am doing my research into the field!
Hello @Dimitry, currently I'm a project coordinator but in the company where I work is more like a Junior PM role. I will like to work as senior PM at the PMO to improve the way projects are run in a organizationl high level. Thank you for this video thumbs up!
Thanks for sharing Alexander. PMO officer is a great role. Building a strong project management culture is super challenge and it really fulfilling. So, go for it.
Hi Dimitry, I don’t have a background in this field, I only have retail experience and customer service as my background 😔 Can you please suggest what I need to do. Will a certification course help me land a job?
No, in most cases, certifications don't help you get a job. Think about the hiring process for a moment. In 99% of cases, you need to send your CV to apply for the role of a project manager. You don't have direct experience as a project manager. So, your CV most likely has nothing to get the attention of a recruiter. You need to fix this first. I recommend that you take all your professional experience and try to find instances that might be relevant to the role of a project manager. Things like communication with customers, organizing the work of a team, improving something at work, etc. Such experience is better than theoretical certification. So, if you can re-write your CV and reframe your experience into something relevant to a project manager's role. Do it first. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/0sC4UoYWbng/w-d-xo.html Also, get my book. It will help you a lot to understand what experiences you need to highlight in your CV.
Really need your advice.. I have 13 yrs experience in finance and I m a pure finance professional.. Now i feel a need to explore and got an offer in my own company as scrum. Master to. Get. Into information technology for. First. Time.. Pls. Suggest
It seems like you did the hardest part - you got the job. As for a role of a Scrum Master, I suggest getting a Certified Scrum Master certificate. You can pass through a course in about two days. However, if you are serious about becoming a great project manager in the IT industry, check my Practical Project Management course. It will teach you everything you need to know. Check the link in the description of any video.
I don't have any knowledge about your local companies. Getting a role of a project manager in another country without extensive experience is quite impossible. So, go to LinkedIn and start looking for job openings around you.
Amith, I think these are completely different role. Leadership and management are still the cornerstone for both of them but you need to manage different things. I have a video on Project vs Product Manager here: th-cam.com/video/lHUYW2aBc9M/w-d-xo.html
Yes, but most likely you would need to get business education in the process anyway. Project Management gives you experience in leadership and achieving goals within given constraints. Add required domain knowledge and you can take up lots of leadership roles.

@Sergey Perun Nice! Thanks for the feedback.
Not CEO because I don't feel I am a visionary but COO for me is what I would want to do at the Executive Level
@@jernbek1, COO is also a valid career goal for a Project Manager. Thanks for extending the possible options! Others may also consider this role.
PM Coach
Thanks for your feedback. Good choice. :)

Definitely, EQ is a critical skill for a project manager because we need to understand what stakeholders feel and why they behave in certain way.

3 - CEO.
Thanks for your feedback!
I have been reading online that some Project Managers move to Product Management side.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this transition.

And answering your question. No, I don’t think it’s a common career move.
From senior PM roles can people go into Associate Director roles?
Yes, but most likely you would need to get business education in the process anyway.
