It'll eventually stop working at any voltage because any electrolyte in the water will cause corrosion on the contacts. This could happen over a period of hours in fresh water, or minutes in salt water. Your motor needs to be encapsulated in a sealed housing, the way trolling motors are. If you're going to great depth, you'll want to fill the housing with an incompressible non conductive fluid like mineral oil to avoid collapse from external pressure.
It looks like your wires got twisted up and just shorted out for the 12v motor. I think it could have run for much longer if you had it fixed. What was that black stuff in the water with the 12V motor? Grease/oil? Also make a video where you drink the water with the 12v motor.
Khaki Slurry i know this is an old comment but the water goes black cause of the graphite from the brushes in the motor. In the RC car world you actually bed in brushes by running it in distilled water for a while so the graphite dust from bedding in the brushes doesn’t stay in the motor and cause problems.
