Great video. I bought your 1983 edition of American Flyer repair years ago. Recently I purchased the colorized version of the 4th edition. An excellent book and I recomend the 4th edition to anyone working with American Flyer trains. Thanks Mr Barker!
Thanks for this. I’m working on what looks like the same unit. The tender/switch car had broken off along with the solder joints on the switch. Any advice on re-soldering?

Yes, use a Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) switch, completely bypassing the reversing unit (E Unit).

My wheels will not move by hand,is that normal?
Yes, these engines have worm drive and will not rotate by hand. A warning came with every AF engine in the original packaging about the worm drive.
