    Through the years I have grown fond of the 293. They are dressed up just a little, run strong, and with normal maintenance should last a long time. They matte up with a number of passenger or freight options; and they are usually affordable.

    I just came across this video. My 290 was running, then stopped and completely quit doing anything other than the E--unit working. I will try everything done here and see if I get the same result.

    The 293, being a New Haven Pacific, is near and dear to me because I used to live in Connecticut. They're quite common; I have several of them including one from 1958 with the cab-mounted, two-step reverse unit. They're fast and they have plenty of pulling power. I also have two 296s and two 21099s.

      2. 21099s? $482 in Exc. Cond. Now! Each! The 296 in Exc. Cond

      296s are $396 each in Exc. Cond. Wow, the reverse in cab 293 is $390 in Exc. Cond.! I hope they are not beat up. Real collectables.

      @@michaelgmoore5708 Put it this way: I took great pains to add only nice locos and rolling stock to my collection. Most of my train items are in excellent condition or better.

    Well done, Yes, I have had several 29n's that just come back to life and run great. Those Mom's at Gilbert's factory could assemble a good engine. D

    I love you videos. You seem to have all knowlege.. Can a bent cab roof edge be restraightened. I assume it go bent by being dropped. I wonder if I can bend it back?

    • @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains
      @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try to slowly bend it a little at a time.

    • @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains
      @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had success bending straight diecast pieces in engines. But slow and a little at a time is crucial. Also, in the scenarios I've been involved with the effort is to get it better...but it has never been to get it perfect.

    Thanks for yet another good video. The pickup wheels of the tender looked a little rusty or is that just an illusion on the video?

    I want to thank you for your deep concern for our welfare and health by sharing the value of owning some of your merch. LOL. You're so funny. You are so thorough and persistent which I like and it stirs me to be more like that with my trains. Although I haven't done much with them lately. Thanks Austin for another good video. Keep em coming.

      Hehe...well all I can do is try right? Thanks Gary. So what would it take for you to start doing something with your trains? What is holding you back from starting? Another question...if 6 months or a year pass and you have not done anything with your trains will this be a regret or not a big deal? Come to think of it...if you had a t shirt from Austins-american-flyer you would see it and be reminded...now if you had dive..one for each day of the week you would become completely motivated...just sayin..😁

      One of my issues right now is track that is clean enough and track pins. I suppose if in a year I haven't done anything I would be disappointed that I didn't use them. Now, you may be spot on that if I had a t shirt from Austin's American flyer it might remind me and motivate me to do something. So I appreciate that you are willing to gift me with up to 5 shirts but, really, one is enough. :-)@@AustinsAmericanFlyertrains

    What kind of wire wheel are you using to clean the E unit drum etc? I'm looking to clean wheels but the set I bought at Harbor Freight is too stiff and is leaving marks etc.

    What type of cleaning wheel are you using on your dremel? Great video, I'm working on a 290 right now, my first rebuild

    • @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains
      @AustinsAmericanFlyertrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brass or steel brush...on low speed with eye protection. Sometimes I also use a scotch right foamy type attachment. I recently picked up an ultrasonic cleaner and wooza! This is the way to clean wheels! I ran some tender truck wheels through it and they look brand-new!

      I use different things for armatures depending on what is needed...cleaning verses resurfacing. As for scratching...the items I use may leave scratching....depending on how they are used. If you want to avoid scratching then I would recommend either a metal polish or a CRC 226 liquid.
