    Another respectful glimpse into a collector's life. The auctioned items must have been outstanding if these were the leftovers.

    The old family photos;
    Taking one look at old family photos, it is tempting to want to think that they're of no value or of any use to anyone. Especially when there are no names attached, how're you going to find the current day family? Often people just throw them away or repurpose them for craft projects.
    But even with the smallest pieces of information, such as who owned the photos or the address where they were found, that is enough for many genealogists to reconnect those pieces back into the 'puzzle', allowing those photos to serve their greatest purpose. These people who practice in genealogy are great stewards making a priceless and irreplaceable investment both now and for future generations.
    You could make those photos available to local genealogists and really make somebody's day (even hundreds of years from now). You likely already know the name of the guy who had the property. Just like the importance of our nations transportation history, even more so is the importance of its people. My family is lucky enough to have just a few photos of relatives that date from around the Civil War and early 20th Century. When you think of human history in terms of centuries, we're still just a step or two beyond the dawn of photography. In that same perspective, the digital age has been cause for great improvements in record keeping and genealogy. Face recognition technology is also improving. By taking a few moments in our own lives to place these visual records in the hands of those who are skilled in finding their rightful place we become one of the key people who kept that history alive.
    Before you toss them or sell them to 'the craft ladies', consider taking a few moments and getting them into the hands of a local historian or genealogist.
    The following are some resources for finding such people;
    Local Historical Societies
    Local Museums
    Deadfred.com
    Ancestry.com
    Genealogybank.com
    Civilwarphotosleuth.com
    As always, I love your content Tim. You're perspectives and mine are much the same.

    I don't understand why somebody didn't buy the hot rod other than the scrap guy. The other car looked of interest too. Now the van been rest free it's collectible. You and me both know that in our day is stubby vans were the ones to get and still true today. But was so much of that more desirable stuff not being available at least an affordable price, here comes the Texas/Iowa van. The fact that it was a conversion van of somebody's idea in the day you should have to the desirability. You said you got it for $400 and that's a little more than scrap so you have an opportunity to save it naturally. There's a well-known auction based in your state. Your friend Joe told me about a guy up in Canada that did something else on the subject. But I discover he also is interested in these vans. Rest free has to mean a lot as far as desirability. Now I'm not plugging the auction or the other TH-camr. But you know where to get the answer if you want to save the van and reach out to somebody. Besides dealing with another TH-camr would give you both an episode or two of content. Anyway I think the Coors sign is neat. A listing up in Colorado and Denver and that sign and that should sell well. Some of the other stuff is great too and at 49 Ford mirror the fact that you know it's a 49 Ford mirror is outstanding. I'm sure that's desirable piece for somebody restoring one. Just a few thoughts from a novice compared to you when it comes to picking these things. Thanks for going out and saving the history and connecting me to Joe.

      Great to hear you have joined the "circle". The brotherhood of car guys always continues to amaze me. The van has its good points and bad. It's not quite a high demand collector's item yet in this condition, but they are starting to come on. If it was a shorty it would probably find a buyer quickly. I'll sell anything any time, but this one may need to sit a little longer until someone comes along for it.
      The Ford and the '31 hot rod were sold to collectors on auction day. I think each one brought around $3000

    I would have picked up the monkey. Picked a basement and found two boxes of plastic model cars so I knew my neighbor sold them on ebay so I gave them to him. Later that day I asked him to show me what he keep and what he pitched. He found a set of play plastic teeth, he explained that they were part of some little kids board game, he had the game but no teeth, the teeth were worth more than the game because they were alway missing. A great score for him and I learned something.

    I was going to estate sales down here in central Florida a couple years ago. It eventually got to the point that it was just TOO SAD to continue. I guess you have to separate
    yourself mentally from the sadness of the entire situation in order to find good stuff. The last one I went to had all of the deceased owners' photo albums, home movies,
    even wedding gowns, that were no longer treasured items. Made me sad to think about - someday all MY stuff will end up in a landfill and forgotten.......

    Considering how much good stuff was left after the sale, either there was some really great and large volume of great stuff that was pulled out for the sale or the prep in getting ready for the sale was not very thorough. Usually at sales people dig through everything so I am surprised the Pepsi sign was left behind. A lot of the metal cans should not have still been laying around. Good ID on the Pontiac radio speaker that was also just laying out in the open. I think I could have been at this place a whole day. Thanks for the video.

    The G20 is real cool. My first vehicle was my parent's 1989 G20 conversion van, which was 12 years old by then, and had already been taken cross-country and camping. My parents still own it, it still gets driven weekly. People are always asking to buy it.
