Interesting, most Wing Chun of today makes it way down through Yip Man lineage. However there is another very rare style of Wing Chun that i had the honor of training for a period and hope to go back and train with my Sifu again soon, it is not part of the Lineage of Yip Man. It is called Fut Sao Wing Chun, Fut Sao meaning Buddha Hand after the 9 fingeree Shoalin Abbot it is passed down from. This Southern Chinese martial art was brought to the United States by Grandmaster Henry Leung. To honor his late teacher, Shaolin Abbot Hsu Yun (also known as "Gao Ghi Fut Sao"), Grandmaster Leung incorporated his Sifu's name into the name of the art. It has the aggressive, springy power for which all Wing Chun is known, but has retained the soft, internal components usually associated with martial arts such as Tai Chi Chuan, Hsing I and Ba Gua. It is very well renowned amoung those who have met the disciples and students of Master James Cama, the disciple that was given the honor (I believe) to be the sole carrier of the System in its entirety and tasked with passing this art on. Master James Cama is unlike any Martial artist I have ever had the chance to meet and in my years of training Hung Ga and other southern, northern kung fu and Internal Kung fu I can say his approach (reality based) and skill level was beyond anything I have seen and am likely to ever see again and it has been thankfully passed on. You can see video of his son and students in Chi Sao tournaments dominating (with grace and complete respect) practitioners from other Wing Chun Styles. He was as unique and powerful as his 2 styles he passed on, Fut Sao Wing Chun and His rare style of Southern Mantis which a short documentary and interview along with much footage was done on a martial arts show and can be seen here on TH-cam. I will post the link. But this particular style of Mantis is unlike any other style I have seen and I have trained alittle of some other style southern and northern Mantis. It is really interesting how these 2 arts the Mantis and The Wing Chun have so many similarities they are like siblings. I find this Vietnamese Wing Chun very Interesting. If you would do yourself a favor and watch this short episode on this very special Master who has since passed away and his most unique and impressive style and ability to apply it.
