Tulum is located in the Mayan Riviera in Quintana Roo's state, where it's said that Pablo Escobar built his house. Continue reading the description to know a brief of tulum's history.
In ancient times, the Mayan City that existed here was called "Zamá" which refers to the Mayan word for "tomorrow", it's one of the first places in Mexico where the sun appears, where contemplating the sunrise is such an experience!
Tulum is the modern name, translates to English as "wall", referencing the wall that surrounded it and still keeps. Tulum was "rediscovered" in the XIX century, completely abandoned, by the explorers John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood.
Tulum, just like Chichen Itzá, was a city dedicated to the planet Venus; by being in a coastal plain and at a height where the horizon could be seen naturally in all directions, it was able to be a perfect spot for astronomic observations. Imagine what did the Mayans could see!
Recently in Tulum, the biggest flooded cave was discovered, by the group Gran Acuífero Maya (GAM) which connected two systems of flooded caves the Sac Actun and Dos Ojos that is ¡347 kilometers long!
Fun fact for Pablo Escobar's fans: In minute 1:08 you can appreciate the Casa Malca hotel to the right and to the left an abandoned house which some say used to be Escobar's own house.

Tulum has the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. It might be a close call between Tulum and Playa Blanca in Colombia.
