@@chrisi2348 The other reason is because of how your body works. With elbows up, you'll almost be in a push-up position which allows you to absorb as much feedback as possible without really affecting the rest of your body as your elbows bending will absorb the majority of it. This also gives you more control over as you won't move around as much. On the flip side, with elbows down and tucked in, you will be jostled much greater as the position of your elbows almost act as a lever for the rest of your body.
Put your elbows into your side and act like your turning your bars. Now do the same thing with your elbows out. You have more control. More control means more speed. Elbows in and your just basically hanging on for dear life. Hoping you don't catch a rut or a kicker. Because you won't have enough control to correct it with your elbows down. With them up you will have more of an opportunity to correct it. Like the other person said your elbows also act as shock absorbers. If they're down it's like compressing your springs and then going jumping. There is going to be no cushion. Elbows up and it'll be much smoother.
As a, well, old dirt guy, I kept saying "fan the clutch!" when you were on the 250. Then you said that you always felt like you were between gears. That's why you either fan the clutch or change gearing. Pretty consistent lap times on either bike though.
