Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! I use the setting 4 too and I thought that the lower volume for vocals was defective for my unit. So it is not, thanks again!
Deb, as with all your videos. so well done. I'm thinking you must come from a teaching background. Your instruction is so clear and concise and the content seems to always be on target. Thank You so much for doing what you do. Love your work!
Your vocals went quiet because as soon as you separated guitar and vocals (i.e. output mode 4) the vocal XLR becomes MIC and no longer LINE. I know the manual doesn't say this at all. :)

You have to setup the XLR output to Channel 8 or 9, then 1/4” to the one you didn’t use. This will give you two separate channels, one for 1/4” and one for XLR that you can route to 2 different sources. This would make a good video. I’ll keep you posted.

But the stand alone should be able to capture quite a bit of the abilities of the VE-8. I love mine.

Hi Deb, thanks for your nice videos! I know its maybe a bit late (almost one year) but why don't you put the XLR on 9 and the line on 8 or the other way round, don't remember. So I mean the guitar from the line left and the vocals from the xlr left.
Hi Deb, great tutorial, however I’m having trouble looping a mic’d acoustic guitar (using an SM57 into the guitar input) It’s not picking it up - should I use the SLR input instead and press the vocal looper in this instance?
It depends on the equipment. Adjust the volume on your equipment the way you always do. On the Zoom H5 you will adjust the volume so that it doesn’t peak. Maybe -12 to -6? I find the volume is usually around 3-4 on the inputs. But go by the volume monitor on your H5 screen.
Hi Miss Deb My name is Jose, using the boss v8 guitar vocals pedal It’s sounds great But I don’t know what I did wrong because now my harmony coro it not sound like the usual Anyway any suggestions I’ll appreciate it. Hugs from Jose and family. Thanks.
Deb, you may have addressed this already but being the Guitar and Vocals are mixed together as default going out to the PA it seems to me it would be better if they were seperate or I would like them that way, but would that interfere with the vocal harmonizer? I think maybe that is how it works by following your voice in the mix, I hope I am wrong,
You can separate the vocal and guitar on the ve-8. I have put together a playlist with videos I’ve made showing how to use the ve-8 th-cam.com/play/PL1saSI1TQh5yXhBISlHUyt6Jg3a-sPsUe.html
Hello! Nice review though! I would like to ask If I can use this Item in my Country here in UAE which has 220v? Thank you. I just ordered in store here!
The USB recording on this was very limited and without checking I want to say that all channels were mixed to 1 stereo file. Using an external recording source I was able to separate the channels L/R with the inputs and record two separate channels that were L=guitar R=vocal.
Thanks for the video. If set the HL to 5 and the L to 6 could I plug the xlr cable into a line converter and then record 2 lines into the Digital interface. I reason I ask is on the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 I only have combo inputs in the front and if I plug an XLR cable into it the interface things it needs to use the preamp which will affect the quality of the sound coming out.
Yes you can. You want to output 2 separate channels then use proper cable to input to your recording device. Page 5 of the VE-8 manual goes into which settings to use. You are going to have to experiment with what comes out better for you. I have a BOSS VE8 playlist setup on my channel. Here is vid of outputs setup and settings th-cam.com/video/G7tJ6SdB_PA/w-d-xo.html
Depends on how deep you want to get into the ve-8 menu system. I would start with no effects and go from there. You can get to EQ and more through menu system starting on page 10 of the manual.
how to record via USB in my DAW (FL Studio) with separate guitar and vocals tracks without H5 zoom. Guitar and vocals are now being recorded in the same mix.
I assume you are using an analogue mixer? Pan guitar channel hard right and vocal hard left. On the boss ve-8 you can set guitar right, vocal left on ve-8. Your manual has the output settings
@@rustamosg1127 you are probably going to get 1 stereo file with VE-8 to USB. Some software will give 2 tracks to separate Right-Left while others will not you will have 1 Stereo file which can be (painfully) separated. Do a google search "separate stereo file". Page 5 of the manual (you can download here deberney.com/product-manuals/ will show you how to setup the VE-8 for separate vocal - guitar channels/tracks.
Good day! I just bought a secondhand ve8 a while ago and I am not aware of this functionality! Can I just for some suggestions? When I just plug and play, and hear myself on the monitor headphones, everything is kinda fine (I noticed that the guitar sound is kinda low even at max knob, but it's bearable) The item comes with an iRig, so when I tried doing Facebook live while iRig is connected to the ve8, and then plugged into my phone, the sound of the video has a low output especially the guitar, and the reverb is not really noticeable... Right now, I don't know what option my ve8 has, that's why I really need to know what's the best option for me. Thank you so much!

Hello! Got a VE8 Boss for almost a year ... Unfortunately when I turn on the guitar I do not get a sound from the pedal ... I already checked the settings, as you show in the video, but only the microphone channel works. Could you give me a hint, if any configuration exists?
I would reset to factory settings. You can see how to do this on page 13, upper left. I find that when I’m trying equipment out the settings may get changed and knock something out that I didn’t mean to knock out. My guess is you have the vocals going out on both channels. You just need to map the guitar to go out to one and vocal to the other. Factory settings set it back to 2 channel stereo. You may want to look at a few of my other videos on the Boss VE-8. Especially this one th-cam.com/video/J0DPl6c2IW4/w-d-xo.html
so it can't record vocal and guitar in separate channels properly? i said properly becuase in mono the voice sound so slightly. this was a problem of Zoom H5? or if i record directly with a computer or connect to a mixer i will have this problem? do you know if this problem exist in voicelive 3 extreme? because i was thinking in buy a voicelive 3, but i think that boss sounds more natural and with the same budget i could have a ve-8 and boss rc 505
It does record on separate channels. I figured it out after recording this demo. The outputs had to be plugged into 1 rt output and 1 left output then assigned to those outputs. This gives a separate Left for Guitar and separate Right for Vocal. The VE-8 has many options and combinations for output. You can record all on a stereo output, all on mono output, separate L/R, separate mono, separate stereo. I have been very happy with this pedal. Easy to use, output exceeds any other "harmonizer" that I've tried to record with. Of coarse the USB recordings aren't as good as a stand alone DAW but, they are decent with the USB. The recordings directly out to the Zoom H5 have been good. I have owned the Voicelive 3. Service is horrible. It was in for repair more than I had it. After the 4th repair I sold it. It didn't record well and USB recording was very warbled and tinny. Horrible sound on Computer.
If you are wanting to record 2 separate channels?? The Zoom H5 will record up to 4 separate channels each will record as a separate .wav file. Most USB devices; mixers, effects, recorders, will allow you to record a stereo .wav file. Some will record the stereo output as 1 .wav file for both channels, others will record stereo output as 2 .wav files. It is very confusing because you will not know until you try record with the USB output. The Zoom, H5, H4n records 2 .wav files, each separate, onto an SD card which you transfer to your computer. It will also serve as a basic Stereo (2 .wav files) USB recorder. The Zoom R16 records 8 separate channels with 8 .wav files on an SD Card. Zoom products can be seen here amzn.to/2qfBiBd My experience with the VoiceLive 3 was horrible. It was in for repair constantly, and any recording I tried, DAW/SDCard all sounded very mechanical and brittle. An amp usually will not record to USB without an AUDIO INTERFACE like any of these amzn.to/2pbjwPz
Hey Deb, I was wondering how I can adjust the levels when I program a memory. For instance. I set channel 5 for a radio sound. Number 4 for a harmony. And number 3 for a clean with a little reverb. The problem is that the radio setting has less volume than the distortion setting and the harmony is also different. I tried lowering the vocal level and the mic sensitivity level but they don’t stay that way when I toggle thru the settings. They go right back to wherever the knob is manually. If you know how I can raise and lower the volume settings while storing i would greatly appreciate an answer. I have songs where I would like to use 3 settings but the volume difference from one to the other makes this impossible. The distortion effect is extremely loved compared to the others.
On page 13 of the manual you can see the chart with input output options. You will use the rear, either XLR or 1/4, outputs and plug them into your amp inputs.

Hi Deb, thanks for your nice videos! I know its maybe a bit late (almost one year) but why don't you put the XLR on 9 and the line on 8 or the other way round, don't remember. So I mean the guitar from the line left and the vocals from the xlr left.
Thats usually how I record.
Hi Deb, great tutorial, however I’m having trouble looping a mic’d acoustic guitar (using an SM57 into the guitar input) It’s not picking it up - should I use the SLR input instead and press the vocal looper in this instance?
The ve-8 uses the sound from your guitar line in. When you use the mic it will not be picked up.
Hi Deb. What is the best setting for having voice with effects, on XLR and guitar with effects on Line. Thanks for your help.
Hi Miss Deb
My name is Jose, using the boss v8 guitar vocals pedal
It’s sounds great
But I don’t know what I did wrong because now my harmony coro it not sound like the usual
Anyway any suggestions I’ll appreciate it.
Hugs from Jose and family.
Thanks.
I’ve done a few videos on using the V8 that should help ZOOM Q8 EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Lloyd Dichoson I would check with the sales person to make sure. I’ve only used USA.
Have you been able to separate Guitars and Vocals while recording via USB? Doesn't look like the unit has that feature.
The USB recording on this was very limited and without checking I want to say that all channels were mixed to 1 stereo file. Using an external recording source I was able to separate the channels L/R with the inputs and record two separate channels that were L=guitar R=vocal.
I was curious about this as well.
If I want to connect a pedal to the VE-8, what input would I use? Help, please and thank you.
@@DebErney Thank you.
How do I get nice dry vocal sounds on my boss
Depends on how deep you want to get into the ve-8 menu system. I would start with no effects and go from there. You can get to EQ and more through menu system starting on page 10 of the manual.
how to record via USB in my DAW (FL Studio) with separate guitar and vocals tracks without H5 zoom. Guitar and vocals are now being recorded in the same mix.
I assume you are using an analogue mixer? Pan guitar channel hard right and vocal hard left. On the boss ve-8 you can set guitar right, vocal left on ve-8. Your manual has the output settings
@@DebErney I don't use analogue mixer. Can i record to different channels without using a mixer or audio card?
How are you getting guitar and vocals into the DAW? This is why you need audio interface
@@DebErney I do it straight from the VE-8 to the notebook via usb cable
@@rustamosg1127 you are probably going to get 1 stereo file with VE-8 to USB. Some software will give 2 tracks to separate Right-Left while others will not you will have 1 Stereo file which can be (painfully) separated. Do a google search "separate stereo file". Page 5 of the manual (you can download here deberney.com/product-manuals/
will show you how to setup the VE-8 for separate vocal - guitar channels/tracks.
Good day! I just bought a secondhand ve8 a while ago and I am not aware of this functionality! Can I just for some suggestions? When I just plug and play, and hear myself on the monitor headphones, everything is kinda fine (I noticed that the guitar sound is kinda low even at max knob, but it's bearable)
The item comes with an iRig, so when I tried doing Facebook live while iRig is connected to the ve8, and then plugged into my phone, the sound of the video has a low output especially the guitar, and the reverb is not really noticeable... Right now, I don't know what option my ve8 has, that's why I really need to know what's the best option for me. Thank you so much!
Your iRig is not the best quality and could be degrading the sound.
@@DebErney How about this? I connected it via cable to pc. The output of the mic sounds good, but the guitar's output sound is very low :( facebook.com/jamil.o.galang/videos/825564988277139/?notif_id=1607860656374874¬if_t=page_post_reaction&ref=notif
Ditto what rvingminstrel said...
thank you, if not i have the amp Yamaha thr10 i think that i could connect with my amp and record via usb with good quality, but then will be 1 track
Zoom products can be seen here amzn.to/2qfBiBd
My experience with the VoiceLive 3 was horrible.
Extremely loud, not loved🙏
I haven't used the memory functions of the VE-8. Sorry.
hello, which are the output to make sound my amplifier, xlr or 1/4 i have doubts. thanks
On page 13 of the manual you can see the chart with input output options. You will use the rear, either XLR or 1/4, outputs and plug them into your amp inputs.
thanks a lot. from spain
ok thank so much
Just found your video today and can't believe what a GREAT job you did with it. I totally understand NOW what to do with mine. You should make more videos or be a teacher, cause you explain so well that even an ole fart like me can understand.. Thanks again from MB.. Canada
HELPFUL BUT I CANNOT GET MINE TO WORK. I HAVE IT ON AND HOOKED UP. MY VOICE IN MIC COMES OUT SPEAKERS AND REVERB IS ACTIVE BUT IF I CHOSE A VOCAL ENCAHNCEMENT AND OUSH THE PEDAL NOTING..NADA..WHAT AM I MISSING WHY IS THIS NOT SIMPLE. THE MANUALS ALL GLOSS OVER SOME STEP THAT MAKES THE WHO THINGWORK. WHAT IS IT?????
I have a playlist setup for the Boss VE-8 that you may want to look at. sounds like you've accidentally re-routed the pedal operation. When first starting with an unfamiliar piece of equipment settings are changed, in/outputs rerouted. I would reset the VE-8 with a FACTORY RESET. Instructions are on page 13 of the manual.
