    Here we go guys, part 2 is out! I initially wanted to get it out 2 weeks a go, but there was some news that I wanted to cover first. I wasn’t too well when I recorded this, so my voice may seem a little off, but all is good now! Hope you guys enjoy this part, and I’ll see you for the final 10 in 2 weeks.

    Aw man I was hoping Richard would get in the top 10 he's such a good character

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, poor Alan is just outside the top 10, but I guess it's just because the cast is so good. In any other JRPG list, a character like this would be easily within the top 5.

    The relationship of Ries and Kevin, her being the voice of reason, and the one that smacks sense into him, reminds me of another pair in the future. It represents that male hero archetype who takes on so much work and responsibility that he becomes dangerous for his own well being, and his supporting female maiden, usually a not fully formalized love interest, who scolds him for not thinking things through and ensures he doesn't neglect his basic needs. It's similar to the mother and son relationship with the caring level headed mom and the stubborn son who rushes into trouble without thinking. Those connotations are probably what often keeps them from fully becoming a couple, despite them being perfect for eachother. Most outsiders will think they are a couple initially.
    Ries is the only one so far that is easily in my top 10. Looking at who is left, Richard and Weissmann makes my top 10 too, over Cassius, Kloe and I suppose Loewe.
    I think Weissmann is very underrated, seeing as he only ended up 20th. I thought he was a very compelling villain. The way he revealed himself to Joshua made my skin crawl and how he tried to control Joshua into killing Estelle, that was just too raw. That was his worst fear and why he had abandoned Estelle before. I remember when that scene played out thinking that if he went through with it, that it would also mean the death of himself, either literally or in spirit. And Estelle knew that. I think the thought of leaving behind a completely devastated Joshua were much more scary to her than the thought of dying.

      Love the analysis man, I agree with all of it. I especially agree that Weissmann being quite low on the list was surprising. But I'd argue that in itself, that's a success for what his character is meant to represent. The player is meant to resent him, he's one of the most despicable members of the cast, and completely in it for his own gain, no-one elses. He's kind of similar to Osborne in that regard, in that he will commit immoral acts for his own benefit.
      I definitely agree on what you say about Joshua too. As you say, he left Estelle because of what happened to his sister, he didn't want the same thing happening again, especially to someone he cared so deeply about. Estelle is his literal ray of sunshine, so to lose it would mean he would just succumb to that latent darkness again, and most likely, never come back from it. Weissmann realises that, and the fact he gets pleasure from coercing Joshua to kill Estelle (and not just Joshua, he instigates the likes of Renne to do so as well) makes him a loathsome individual from the moment he reveals himself.

      @@TheKisekiNut You could say this series is stacked with great characters. It's also interesting how in the Ouroboros meeting with Campanella that they talked about how his obsession with Joshua led to his downfall. Joshua knew him so well that he could predict what he was going to do, and thanks to Kevin, they could turn the tables and catch him off guard. Not only did Weissmann convince Renne into killing Estelle, he also seemed to have been the primary member who groomed Renne into becoming a ruthless killer. Maybe it was Loewe who actually trained her, but it was Weissmann who convinced her that it was ok to kill, that it could in fact be fun. They took her in when she had been broken down, but she had to be groomed mentally into becoming the Angel of Slaughter. That trauma made her vulnerable to his persuasion.
      Weissmann also treated Joshua like his little puppet from the moment they met until the end. He really had a genuine God complex, and liked to manipulate others into doing his bidding, rather than using force. I like how there's that consistent pattern to his actions.

    Bleublanc's side quests made me want quit playing trails in the sky sc 😭

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would always just guide them. The riddles were sometimes so oblique, I couldn't be bothered to figure out the nuance behind it.

    • @pite9
      @pite9 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B's quests can be tricky. I have spent like 15 minutes on a single clue once or twice, but atleast for me, that's not too bad. A strategy that worked for me was that if nothing popped up in my head, I would keep the clue in my head, and visit each relevant area one at a time, scanning the map for anything that pops up.
      I never use guides on games out of principle, and that includes quiz questions or finding the ideal responses in a jrpg. I enjoy that feeling of pressure in having to reason my way through it. Whenever I get stuck on a game, I just power through it, because I hate the feeling of not knowing if I could have figured it out on my own. I think this comes from growing up playing point and click games. I also just enjoy challenges in general.

    I honestly think Schera's the best girl in the whole "sky" trilogy so I was hoping she'd climb higher. But it's ok to see her land where she did. :)

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Schera is a great character, but I think with the quality elsewhere in the list, it's understandable why she ended just outside the top. I personally wanted Alan Richard in the top 10 (he would have been in my own list), but alas, too strong a cast!

    • @thecognitiverambler8911
      @thecognitiverambler8911 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheKisekiNut Exactly. Just a strong cast all around. I'm surprised how far Giliath and Lechter made it with just those single doors to go by! As for Alan, I 100% agree. Aside from having a redemption arc done completely right (as you yourself say); he's just a badass character all around. He'd definitely make my top 10.

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thecognitiverambler8911 Yeah, but I think because we've seen so much of them now, that might have influenced the rankings for the two. Not that I'm complaining, I think they're both solid characters, even in Sky alone. :)

    I like Mueller and Lechter. Lechter is funny in how he made the entire student council run after him all the time just to make him do his work. Their main job was running after Lechter! I also loved Schera and Olivier together. Especially her making him drunk all the time and him fearing for his liver. Weissmann was just a crazy psycho who loved torturing Joshua and playing with the poor kids emotions. The fight against him was kinda terrible. I played on easy so it wasn't hard, but it kinda felt like I was on drugs cause I couldn't see him most of the time and the bright lights made my eyes hurt. And he instigated Hamel and caused all these deaths and the war with Liberl which led to Estelles mom dying. Pretty much everyone has reasons to hate him. And I really feel for richard. He hates himself for almost overthrowing the country, even though the poor guy was just being used. God, I feel so bad for Richard. And I love Ries. Ries is one of the best girls in all of Trails. And I just say that because she has a big sword. And she is always hungry, like me.

    Um actually, the orbal shutdown incident only affected Liberl and the SW-most region of the Empire. Talking of "all other nations" being victim to the shutdown is erroneous. :)

      Good shout! I screwed up with what I wanted to say there really. I was going more along the lines of 'any other nation would have felt the effects of this event, but not Erebonia', to hammer home the perceived strength of Empire (and the Chancellor by extension).

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that just demonstrates good writing to be honest. The player is meant to despise Weissman, and many people will rank on how much they like a character. Needless to say, Weissman (despite being a well-written villain) is detestable.

  • @Maghanashi

    Can't stand Kilika. She's written so completely unbelievably. Like a Sherlock who always has one over Zin. It's just annoying to watch her, tbh. Zin deserves a better foil than both Kilika and Walter, which is partly why I suspect he was voted so low.

      I'm hoping in the future he will get some sort of development cause at the moment he's just a clown who pops in and messes with people, which I usually wouldn't have a problem with but this series is known for having such well developed characters and campy has had none of that.

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think Campanella is gonna have way more significance down the line. He's too close to the Grandmaster for him not to get some form of payoff.
