I visited Roanoke on several occasions. I like the area. One of the big pros for me or anybody that likes natural/organic food and products is that Roanoke has several natural food stores/coops. There are also several farm-to-table restaurants too. And it has a lot of nature, trees, trails etc a well.
The Roanoke Valley is an absolutely beautiful place! Unfortunately, Roanoke has been in decline for several decades and the job market is just terrible up there! I love going to visit family every year, but there is no way I would ever consider moving back.
I work a blue-collar job so that area might be good for me. It seems I found out in my life that blue-collar jobs pay less in more white-collar areas and more in predominately blue-collar areas.
Took my kids around Roanoke for couple of days.. we had a wonderful time.. we went to all the museums and dixie caverns.. people are super friendly compared to here (northern VA).. beautiful mountains view.

Let me sign a lease at that apartment across from Versailles Bridge before I find a job and I'll move before summer ends. I am sick of Charlotte and the crazy reckless drivers. As for the comment about the job market being terrible.........kind of depends on what you do for work doesn't it? When I stayed for a whole summer.....the unemployment rate was well below the national average. If I were to move I would like to find an artists meeting that meets up on saturday or sunday.
Agreed on job market, very much depends on the industry you are looking for and many folks are able to work remote these days. Anything we can do to help you ?

A word of advice would be to live near the Glenvar area of Salem, which is a 15 minute ride to Roanoke. It makes the drive to Radford about 25-30 minutes.
That commute would get old really fast! 45+ mins of impatient drivers trying to get ahead of a never-ending convoy of 18-wheelers. It's also a pretty dangerous stretch of highway that you would be commuting on.
You are correct, Lynchburg used to be the closest passenger train station. Roanoke has its own now and folks use it all the time, especially to go to and fro D.C.
You all have the camera spend way too much time on close ups on your faces and not enough on what you're talking about. The subject of your video is Roanoke, but the places you reference only appear in very brief clips before disappearing. Cumulatively, Roanoke visuals are barely featured relative to the length of this video. Instead, for the majority of the video you focus on awkward close ups of your faces as if the primary subject of the video were your bow tie and earrings. I wanted to like you as you were talking because you're good speakers - but the video itself became too annoying to finish for the reason I state here. Just one man's opinion.
Even with all the danger and crime. I absolutely loved Roanoke Virginia and I still miss it and I've been going over a year back to my hometown in Winchester Virginia I'd give anything to move back
I understand this is a promotion: But I checked the crime rate as to shooting ( not so good ) you should mention that. ( Roanoke Times,12,2021) Shootings have become an issue which people are facing in the community, everyday. Gun homicides have increased by 400% in Roanoke City. Its up over that in 2022
Hey Steve, great job of continuing to further dig into the crime statistics along with the pros and cons of the Roanoke Region. We always recommend folks do exactly that, dig into the statistics, that are the most important to them, in order to make the best, most informed decision. Yes, excellent point. We keep saying we are going to do a video about the homeschool community here in the Roanoke A Valley. May have to enlist your thoughts and help to do it though.

I grew up in Roanoke and just recently moved from the area. Pro, cost of living is cheap. Con,no good paying jobs.
I left Roanoke 19 years ago. I'm glad I left and moved west. No jobs there...too much crime in Roanoke....lots of shooting s and drug problems

Same here, left in 1999. It's a common theme in the star valley. But thankfully, we have some realtor transplants who know the area better than us 🤣

Would it be a horrible decision to live in Roanoke and work in Radford? I am worried about the commute..
We do have some clients and friends that do it !! It’s all about personal preference.
