We have a rope railing around our dock and along our (200ft) of captains walk in Southwest Florida. The rope railing was done in June 2022, but it is already flaking horribly. We were never instructed about any kind of maintenance but now I am wondering if there some sort of maintenance that should be done periodically to keep the rope condition so it doesn’t get so dried and flakes?
Our project will be utilizing 4x4 posts which are installed to be 36inches from ground to top of post; we were thinking of running just one line of rope for a nautical look. What size rope would you recommend and how far from the top would you suggest to drill the holes for the rope? Thanks!
We would recommend 1-1/2" diameter rope for 4x4 posts. Usually a few inches from the top of the post works well for drilling the holes. Whatever you think looks good.
Hi I would like to keep my cows out of my open barn so I was thinking of putting up double rope for the openings with each end having a hook. How do I add hooks to the ends to attach to a fixed loop ?
There are hooks available for rope, although we don't currently have them in stock. They are available for different diameters of rope, and they usually have a set screw that holds them on the rope. Most of the hooks available will fit our ropes.
It will, but it is a little snug. We recommend a 1-9/16" bit if you can find one. Here is a video with a little more detailed instructions. th-cam.com/video/KjWefPEX1Qg/w-d-xo.html
At the end posts, we drilled half way through the post and dead-ended the rope inside. We put a lag screw in from the opposite side, so that the threads of the screw went into the end of the rope. The Promanila rope was hot-cut, so the ends were melted together, which gave the screw something substantial to grab on to.
Definitely. If you use a large lag screw and screw it into the hot-cut end of the rope and your hole is the same size as the rope, it will hold really well.
Love the look of the rope fence. I recently purchased from Right Rope 1 1/2 promanilla for a fence around my Koi Pond using 4x4 posts.
Thanks for your order, Rich!
Can I color diy the rope for my fence? Thank you
What’s the spacing between the holes? Hole from the top of the post and hole to the center of the post?
On this project, they drilled the holes 5" and 26" from the top of the post to the centers of the holes.

@@RightRopeOfficial Thank you for your super quick response!
That railing looks great! How tall are the posts?
They are 8' posts that stick out of the ground about 4'.
Thank you

Will Promanila rope shrink in diameter over time?
How did you screw the rope into the ends?

@@RightRopeOfficial would it hold if someone was to lean against it?
Definitely. If you use a large lag screw and screw it into the hot-cut end of the rope and your hole is the same size as the rope, it will hold really well.
@@RightRopeOfficial thanks 👍🏼
