This is a great idea! Thanks, Carl! Does it make more sense to leave the top as it is, removable, or use something like epoxy to seal it and make the joint permanent? I'd love to see more discussion on this about pros and cons....
Thank you Matt!! I forgot to mention that at the end. I would leave the tenon a little loose to accommodate wood movement. I think it's better to have them removable, that way you can just lift the top off and add water, and throw them into the dishwasher to clean them.
What a pleasure watching your video you made it so easy to watch with your nice tone. What a wonderful idea. Can’t wait to attempt to make one. Thanks Tommy ☘️👍
Excellent idea. You could probably put the first one back on the chuck and make the correction needed for the curve to be right. Or just save it for another one. Great gift idea. Thanks for sharing.
I'm afraid to look for the price of that chuck, but I love it! I have three different chucks for different uses; probably should have bought one of those for all the money I spent on the others. But I'm still a newbie and don't know what is out there yet.😉
Interesting idea Carl. Good to have a wife with an eye for unique ideas. Question: Are you gluing the tops to the glass or just going for a tight friction fit? Thanks. Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom, I wouldn't do a tight friction fit or glue them on. Any little bit of wood movement would break the glass if they're to tight. I made them so they fit loose and pull right off for filling the water and cleaning.

Carl, Those were soooo cool! As always, excellent work! Thanks. Maybe I’ll start turning. I just need a chuck for a shop smith.
Thank you!! I think they make adaptors so you can put a chuck on them.
That's a really cool idea. Might have to give it a go some point. Definitely like the walnut one better.
Awesome idea, Carl. I see there could be lots of variations to these vases. I will be doing some of these in the near future!

It's definitely pricey...it's a Easy Chuck by Easy Wood Tools if you want to look it up. Looks really nice though, changing jaws is such a hassle!
I was right there with you for years! I sold all my other chucks and got this one. It's the only one I have now :)
By the time you buy multiple of the others you can get one of these. I love mine.
Nice
Thx Robin
❤
Very cool
Thank you Connie :)

Thank you very much Larry! Here's the link nilesbottlestoppers.com/product-category/finishes/
Nice. Looked for the finish but couldn’t find it using the link.

Thanks.
How do you protect the inside of the wood from any possible water damage?
It shouldn't get wet if you take the top off to fill it up, but you can put a finish on it if you want.
Carl: great job. Why do cut a forstner bit hole...just for decoration?
Thank you! The hole is for flowers 🙂
@@CarlJacobson That would have been my guess! Thanks for the idea. Dollar Store here I come.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
what kind of chuck is that no screws they just slip in ha wow
It's a Easy Wood Chuck www.easywoodtools.com/easy-chuck-1
The containers resemble fantasy potion bottles
Yes they kind of do :)
What's the difference between a spindle gouge and a bowl gouge?
A bowl gouge has a deeper flute.
@@CarlJacobson Ahhh. Thanks.
