I'm really liking this series of videos. I really appreciate both points of view. I like how both Junk and Levi stick to their style of doing things. They respect each others point of view. Thanks for helping the detailing community!
love these vids fellas. A helpful tip for some people when my towels are not good enough for paint I use them on the boats I detail the fiberglass is not as sensitive. The pros like myself are aware of this and when you have the amount that I have it is very helpful.
Thank you TRC, Junk and Levi for these series! The dual prospective is fantastic. I find myself in the middle of both you guys approach in most of your topics. But that lets me know that I'm doing things properly and safely. KEEP THE VIDS COMING!
+The Rag Company Awesome news, thanks! I guess I'll just keep on keeping on until then. I need to make my first order with TRC soon too. That'll help bide my time.
+The Rag Company Oh here's a topic suggestion (as if you need more LOL). Foam guns and foam cannons. The weekend warrior and precessional POVs on those items would be a great topic.
Thank you for the great information. Thank you for making this information available. I'm eager to see some more videos I am so glad I found The Junkman's videos I've watched all but a few. If you really watch and really listen you will learn something. keep the videos coming guys. Thank you
It was love at first touch when I discovered the rag company towels. The Platinum pluffle is my favorite. Wouldn't have found them without the Junkman.
I'm really enjoying these DETALKS series. Some really great info. Here is a topic suggestion - With all the different kinds of microfiber towels out there (blends, low pile vs high pile, GSM, design, ..etc), which ones do you guys like to use for the different aspects of detailing. For example, use low pile for wax removal and high pile for final buffing. Use waffle weave for quick detail spray...etc. A general "rule of thumb" for microfiber usage would be nice. Keep up the great work guys!
Ok, I just spent $60.36, and forgot to mention it is all due to the Junkman and these talks. The Junkman turned me on to you a couple years ago. Thanks Junkman!
to add to the above, what towel is safest and best used for drying after wash and do you use it damp or dry? I know most pros have some sort of vac n blo system and would rather touch their paint as least as possible with towels. buuut If we have to I would like to know this. thanks guys and keep up the great shows.
The reason I ask this is because I am creating an arsenal of towels that I have already purchased that include 5 premium 16/16 lt blue waffle weaves, 5 eagle edgeless blues, 5 16/16 pluffles and the platinum professional kit. I'm learning and turning (heads) as I go and want to make sure I use these towels for the correct application. this is for one car only and nobody will touch these towels but me! daily driver a little ocd but I guess we all are!
Another great video! I wash my MF towels like the JunkMan in Woolite or Tide Free in warm but after watching this decided to add a half cup of vinegar and a capful of ONR like Levi on a load of my heavily soiled beater rags today. Made a very noticeable difference. Thanks for the tip!
We have woolite soap in india, but its on amazon. And there are so many variants. There are colored in black and orange? Which color should i use? Is the same color bottle in usa too?
This was an informative video. Please publish more videos of this nature. I am planning to start a detail business serving the military personnel and civilians overseas in the Yokohama-Yokosuka, Japan area. I am a retired Navy Corpsman (Semper Fi) and I work during the day, so this is just to supplement my income (weekend business).
I tried Microfiber cleaning soap on the recommendation of the Obsessed Garage (I bought Chem Guys) and my towels are definitely better. fresher. brighter, fluffier than with regular detergent . Just my real world experience . (warm water)
Never thought to put distilled vinegar to help clean. I'll give it a shot. In regards to load separation, your reasoning makes sense, however, as a "weekend warrior", I only have 20 towels in total. Most are multi-purpose mf towels, but I only have 2 window towels, 1 pluffle and 4 eagles...etc. would you suggest I hand wash those towels in a bucket with some grit guards rather than putting all my towels together in one load? (that's what I do with my wheel towels, those don't go in the washing machine) As I can't really justify doing a load of laundry for just my one pluffle towel. Again, great video guys, really enjoy these!
This was my question exactly. It seems maybe a bit of Towel Kleen in a bucket with warm water and distilled vinegar, agitate for 2-3 min- followed by Tumble dry for 5 min then line dry? Do you gentlemen find any issue with this method or do you need the power of a Real "Wrshing" machine?? Thx!!! @junkman
Yeah lets hear more about how to maintain our prized towels and how to better color code them for specific tasks. For example. Black general use towels for cleaning and drying door jambs and wheels. I think the rag company should be working towards offering THE BEST microfiber wash detergent. I personally am using a basic free and clear laundry detergent and occasional doses of vinegar in cold water and dried on the lowest setting possible. So far so good.
How do you categorize towels to wash as a group do you just throw them all in the washer Machine together or do you only put paint correction together or interior together. I do that process now and it makes like 6 different loads and it's a little of a pain.
How do you 2 store your micro fiber towels? I've been putting mine in ziploc bags so if I'm going to a cruise night or car show I can grab the bag put them in the trunk so they aint going to pick anything up that's going to scratch the paint.
I'm a little confused as to why you guys suggest washing in cold water. EVERY other "how to wash your microfiber towels" by all the major companies say to wash in warm to hot water, and dry on low heat. This is the first time I've seen a recommendation to wash in cold water. I wonder why the difference? I was always under the impression that drying on high heat is what destroys the towels but that washing in hot water helps to break down any contaminants on/in the towels.
interesting info. in eight years of caring about microfiber i have never had an issue with any warm water and towels or any issues with drying them on low. and i use mostly Microfiber Madness towels at this stage - i wouldn't put them at risk because i wouldn't be able to afford that. the warmer the water molecules, the faster and are more chaotic they move. thus, they clean better. i can't imagine not drying them on low heat vs. having to wait for them to air or tumble dry w/o heat. i am surprised to hear about a volume err pro shop not using low heat to dry their towels! microfiber detergents are designed with components (chelating agents, emulsifiers, surfactants, etc.) to help break down stuff that normally shows up on detailing towels and DOESN'T normally show up on clothes. while a lot of microfiber wash products are overpriced, they are richer in components than their supermarket counterparts so it does make sense they are generally more expensive. good tip about all purpose cleaner. Optimum Power Clean in particular is really good at getting stains out (it's actually the best APC i've ever used, period). i use Shout spray on my towel stains...and also washing soda/hydrogen peroxide soaks when necessary (basically, Oxi-Clean). Shout and homebrew Oxi-Clean are very cheap and effective means of getting stubborn stains out, but yeah - APC often works well. ultimately, whatever works. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comments! Just to clarify we use low heat/no heat/ fluff. We literally have thousands of towels to use while our laundry is going. So it doesn't slow us down!! I do everything I can to make our shop "idiot proof." Lowest heat setting insures employees don't destroy company property by accident. No matter how well you train someone, they will still do something stupid.👍🏼 thanks for the comments again! And get a few TRC towels😉
My favourite car product of all time?! Use it to wash the car, as a clay lubricant (if the clay need one), as an interior cleaner, as a window cleaner, to clean the steamer etc.

offdatgogo
Good suggestion, as there are differences between the two.
+Junkman2000 I'll be keeping a sharp eye out for you and Levi on that and many other topics.
MORE! Great job fellas!

lets see more Levi!! Great vids as always!
Thanks for watching. :)
Hey Hey, glad it worked for you!
Just a capful of ONR (undiluted) to the load? Thanks.
mkcharland 4oz of mixed ONR (1:256)
We have woolite soap in india, but its on amazon. And there are so many variants. There are colored in black and orange? Which color should i use? Is the same color bottle in usa too?
excellent info guys, thanks !
Thank you Chris. :)
This was awesome. I'm glad it was clarified one was a weekend warrior and one is a pro.
Thanks for watching. :)
Thank you
The vinegar thing is interesting!!!! May have to try that once.

Hey nice video on towel washing. How about pros and cons of Machine Applied wax compared to Hand Applied wax.
I tried Microfiber cleaning soap on the recommendation of the Obsessed Garage (I bought Chem Guys) and my towels are definitely better. fresher. brighter, fluffier than with regular detergent . Just my real world experience . (warm water)
Thanks again everyone for your feedback!!! We really do appreciate it!
Hey Guys! Great video! I have a question, what is ONR?
Never thought to put distilled vinegar to help clean. I'll give it a shot. In regards to load separation, your reasoning makes sense, however, as a "weekend warrior", I only have 20 towels in total. Most are multi-purpose mf towels, but I only have 2 window towels, 1 pluffle and 4 eagles...etc. would you suggest I hand wash those towels in a bucket with some grit guards rather than putting all my towels together in one load? Hey William, this is why I like Woolite. It's not only made for fine washables but it's also made for hand washing. Thanks for watching. :)
+Junkman2000
You are awesome brother. Thanks!!!
William
You're welcome. :)

What's the logic behind using ONR when washing towels?
How do you categorize towels to wash as a group do you just throw them all in the washer Machine together or do you only put paint correction together or interior together. I do that process now and it makes like 6 different loads and it's a little of a pain.
How do you 2 store your micro fiber towels?

Which version of Woolite does the Junkman use? The good ol' black bottle or the delicate version? 😁
The Rag Company I have a few microfibers I'm hoping to revive from bad washing habits so every little bit helps. 👍
YES MORE
There will be MOR. :D
Just got my Rag Company towels
When do you add the vinegar?
Great series, BTW!
If you have a bleach tray in your washer you can put in there. Ours dosent in the shop so it goes in with the cleaner and ONR.
Never thought of ONR, what is the benefit I do wash in hot water and line dry.
like to see this more enjoy it
Have you ever used Sport Wash from Atsko ?
I would love to see those samples of bad towels so I have an visual reference. I'm a bit of a visual learner hence being here on youtube

I was always under the impression that drying on high heat is what destroys the towels but that washing in hot water helps to break down any contaminants on/in the towels.
Do you rinse with cold water? I use a double rinse as well.
For me it's cold water but the water temperature doesn't matter to me at all.
Thanks.
Thanx!
Thanks for watching. :)
rock on
How about a microfiber towel giveaway?
Deal. We'll give you some free towels for a few dead presidents. :D
What woolyte went to the store and seen 4 types of it

Oh man, you are SO missing out!

what brand are those spray bottles?
Thanks! do you like them, say, better than a ZEP? i can't seem to find a decent spray bottle that doesn't leak or crap out after time.
what is O & R
Anybody know what "O'nR" stands for?
My favourite car product of all time?! Use it to wash the car, as a clay lubricant (if the clay need one), as an interior cleaner, as a window cleaner, to clean the steamer etc.
what's ONR?
Optimum No-Rinse.
If ya can afford $5 for a good towell , you can afford a gallon of real towell cleaner for a year ! Yes , its better
