What are Arrays? - EV3 Programming Tutorial

  • What are arrays? They are a way of storing a lot of data (as variables) neatly together in the same place. The EV3's Array Operations block allows you to leverage this feature for your own EV3 creations. Learn how to use that block this week!

    I would also like to see a follow-up tutorial with an example of how to use arrays to solve common robotics challenges. Thank you.

    I use the Array block to pass in and out the error values for the PID algorithm you created.
    I created a MyBlock based on your PID calculations with inputs for the desired measured value, the actual measured value and the Kp, Ki and Kd constants. I also input an array block with all three error values I want to track (Last Error, Integral and Derivative). After the calculations I output the corrected value and an array block with the updated error values.
    The array block is fed back into the MyBlock in the main program so the error values get updated each time the PID is calculated.

    Been waiting for this... 😁 Would love to see some more design videos though. Pneumatics applications in FLL, resistance based motor functions, or a series on shell robots would be great. 👌

    I have a question: When I change a value in array, how I can use the new array after ???

    Hey Kyle its Kent. If you don't remember, we once shared an office as an High School intern at BrookeHaven National Lab over the summer. I know this is irrelevant to the EV3 Programming Tutorial, but I didn't have any other way to contact you. I have been wanting to start a youtube channel and I didn't know anything about starting a channel so I wanted to see if you could give me some advice. It would be a great help. Thanks!

    can you make a video on creating lock gates to store and release items

    Gr8 video but what are the applications of this in programming? I honestly don’t have any ideas.

    Would a possible use of an array in the Hydrodynamics FLL game be to read and store the colors of the food blocks so they could be distributed in same-color pairs to the animals? I'm not sure how the robot would be designed to finish that task, but at least in theory the array could make it possible, right?

      Yes, arrays are used in WRO for something similar, so that will totally work.

    If length is 5 that means the last element's index is actually 4, right?

    • @Builderdude35
      @Builderdude35  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct; arrays start counting from 0.

    This would be very useful in the World Robot Olympiad challenges. Teams should start looking at arrays especially when there are randomized game piece indexes to be read while doing the challenge. Check out the Regular Challenges here to see the WRO challenges. www.wro-usa.org/regular-category
