"They don't have to know that". I have no respect for parents who tell their children to lie like this. Asking them to lie about their marks in school, about their job etc. For keeping up the so called "status", they damage two things. First the relationship with their children, as the children end up losing some respect for the parents. Second, these children end up less confident. I have been through this exact situation and I know exactly how it feels.

I know women suffered a lot through time, but you don't have to act the victim on every aspect of your life. Look at this and look at the characters. Jack is clearly trying to show Monica he's proud of her in his own dumb way: "I love that my little harmonica isn't that way (trying to say she is good as she is and won't get cancer, really stupid and telling her to be mediocre, but he didn't mean it that way did he?", "when you were little and chubby and had no friends, you were just fine (saying she was strong back then, not knowing how much she suffered and thinking she was strong and confident back there)". Now look at Judy, she's clearly diminishing everything Monica does: "spaghetti? That's easy", "they don't have to know that (that she works at a restaurant and doesn't own it)", "this may be the only wedding we'll have (referring how Monica might not get married as an insult at Ross' wedding)".
For real, people reducing everything to gender and not analyzing everything AT ALL, and let alone, at a fictional show is what's getting really old, you won't change anything acting like this...

I respect Ross for trying to help out Monica in this horrible parental situation. When parents treat kids like this, they’re definitely going to end with some sort of insecurity.
And when Jack thinks he’s helping but really just makes her feel worse. 😂

Althea was critical of Judy. Why can't Judy see she's doing the same to Monica?
I have a theory: Rachel said Monica looked like her grandmother when she was the same age as Monica. Maybe Judy sees the same way and treats her daughter like how she wanted to show her mother how she felt

So my cousin is this go getter, even if you have meet her just 2 sec ago she will make sure to learn every detail of your life. I don't have that skill so I was always jealous of her. I felt guilty getting jealous and angry at this small child who is just living her life. But now I am in much better place. Even if I am jealous of her skills I am not jealous of who she is but rather proud. So that must be with you, your mother maybe jealous of something you have that she doesn't but her other child reminds her of herself who lacks those characteristics that you have. Maybe it is. I feel sad for anyone who have mother like Monica but best advice confront them if you are a adult and ask questions about your childhood. It may hurt but will give you closure and relief.

I mean Monica turned out to have a successful marriage (at her first try) she didn't have toxic relationships, just badly timed ones... and she was a head chef in a restuarant of her liking. she kind of... had it all. If you compare that with Ross and Rachel, even tho they were both successful professionally their relationship was a hell ride and when compared to Chandler, Joey and Phoebe, she was the most talented and professionally well off.
